Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The thermostat on the shower was disabled so it couldn’t get as hot as I would have preferred.
Lovely location, house has been beautifully restored. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing.

Room and en-suite were very clean and comfortable, good size, good wifi. Hosts responded quickly, were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order. Free parking across the road.

There wasn’t anything we didn’t like. Would definitely recommend The Old Lodge.
Myself & my husband stayed at The Old Lodge for 4 nights & had a really great time. Debbie & Gordon were so helpful & nothing was too much trouble. They made us feel so welcome. The breakfast was delicious & a really good choice. Amazing property with lovely views in a quiet location. Bedroom very spacious, comfy bed & serviced daily.

The guesthouse itself is elegantly decorated, the bedroom and en-suite were immaculately clean, having a well heated shower and good water pressure. The bed was comfortable and the location was quiet, with South Common opposite and horses grazing there. We walked into the city for our evening meal, which was an easy 20 minute stroll. The Royal William IV offered a great menu and a friendly atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious, with our orders taken for anything up to a full English. Very welcoming owners and a relaxing stay.

Excellent breakfast, lovely helpful hosts, good location for walking along the river into Lincoln a very interesting city (but very steep in places!) Just over an hour drive to Anderby Creek- a beautiful unspoilt beach.

Only slight niggle was the shower water, wasn't all that hot.
Lovely stay, owners went above and beyond, nothing too much trouble. Made to feel extremely welcome. Room comfortable. Close proximity to the shopping centre. Ease of parking even though it was a busy Saturday afternoon with parking. Nice and quiet for sleeping. View with the horses across the road. Breakfast great. Would book again here when visiting Lincoln 🥰

Very friendly and helpful owners. Room was clean, comfortable, very spacious and very nicely decorated. The bathroom in our room was lovely, but may not be suitable for some people, as you need to use a step to access the bath and shower. Quiet location, opposite open parkland so any rooms at the front will have nice views. Lots of parking, which is a bonus. Walking into the city centre takes about 20-25 mins. Good breakfast. Would definitely recommend if visiting Lincoln.

Sincere welcoming hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for Deborah & Gordon. We felt welcomed as friends. Gordon offered to drive us to a function some miles away without being asked , his willingness to help meant a lot. The Location was ideal, room & bed very comfortable, breakfast fantastic. Both Deborah & Gordon made our stay a very pleasant treat.
