Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Nothing. Was as expected. In fact it was better!
Excellent b&b. Description on website was accurate. Good value, clean, comfortable accommodation about 10 - 15 minutes walk from the centre of the city. Great hosts who were welcoming, helpful and made sure I had everything, and were always available. The toilet was shared with only one other room and was adjacent. Good shower in the room. The optional breakfast was well worth the extra. Key supplied for room and front door. Room had tea and coffee and a microwave. Cutlery and crockery also available so that food could be brought to the room. Socket available beside bed for charging. Free wifi available. Recommended and would stay again.

Very nice and well furnished accommodation. The room was comfortable and clean with microwave, kettle, coffee and tea available. Mike and Kim are really kind and friendly and it was nice to have a chat with them!

Can't think of anything.
The breakfast was delicious, and the location was great - far enough from the main street for a quiet, good night's sleep, and close enough to it for it to be easily accessible. I also loved my chats with Kim and Mike!

N/A -all was great
Vaila Guest House had everything I could’ve wanted and needed. The room was really cozy and warm with all amenities. The bed was very comfortable and everything was very clean and well set up . Most importantly to me, the place was safe and friendly. Michael and Kim couldn’t have been more kind and attentive and it was lovely to return there after a hard days work and now someone was watching out for you to welcome you “home”-plus Michael had a wicked sense of humour!

Nothing I didn't like
The room was amazing with absolutely brilliant hosts , price was great value for money . The breakfast was exceptional and had the best night's sleep . Very clean I would definitely recommend to anybody visiting Aberdeen. I would give it higher than 10 😁😁😁

I was greeted at the door by Mike with a big smile and even a bad joke that still made me laugh 🤣 Mike and Kim are absolutely fantastic hosts and made sure I was very comfortable and well looked after. The room was perfect and very clean. Location is perfect and most things are no more than a 10 to 15 minute walk away. Breakfast was brilliant and plenty of it. I’ve decided to become a long term guest as I work in the city through the week, which I think speaks volumes for the high standard of B&B it is. maybe I will get a chance to see if his jokes get any better now haha. Thanks guys, and look forward to it being my home away from home.

The hosts were amazing, from checking in to checking out. Lovely people, who clearly make the guests staying at their house, feel more than guests. The house is amazing in it's character and location. Will definitely come back again 😁.

Greeted with a smile, communication was tip top and was made to feel very welcome. Room (and everything else) was lovely, bed very comfy and clean plus a yummy breakfast. House is in a good spot near Union Square, walked to work at the Royal Infirmary each morning which was nice too. Can't fault anything, very happy and would go back if get the chance.

Nothing, everything was perfect
I absolutely recommend Vaila guest house, it's not only a superb place that nothing envíes five star much more expensive places but also, getting to know Mike and his wife was a delightful experience. His knowledge about history and the extra mile they gave to everything was way beyond my expectations. Again, thanks for all!
