Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

There was nothing to dislike.
The hosts Simon and Lane were welcoming, always assistive, and very professional. They were advisory with recommended places to see. The house was exceptionally clean, comfy, and warm. The house is very convenient for the centre of Whitby and on a good bus route for journeys north and south. It's also close to excellent well rated restaurants.

Parking can be a bit of a struggle but nothing that would stop us staying again
A lovely property, exceptionally clean and really well maintained. On top of this Simon, Lane and the team are very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Whitehaven Guest House. We’ve stayed in a number of B&B’s in Whitby over the past few years and this is definitely the best.

No carpark, only at the leisure center which is expensive.
Nice clean and very quiet room, the breakfast is delicious and the owners are a lovely and helpful couple.

Just a matter of preference but found the mattress a little hard.
Lovely freshly cooked breakfast. Welcoming hosts. Super clean in all areas of the B&B. Well kept garden. Great location for the beach and town.

Location ideal only a small walk from town, bus station and train 🚂 . I would highly recommend the full English breakfast Simon's scrambled eggs are the best l have ever tasted.

whilst the guesthouse doesn't have its own car park (few in whitby do) they do provide tickets for street parking close to the hotel- which sorts you out no problem.
great breakfast- location on west cliff ideal for tourists. walking dist into town and the amenities

Simon and Lane are really lovely friendly people, the breakfast was delicious and cooked perfectly. We really enjoyed our stay and wish we had booked for longer. The location is perfect for walking to the Harbour and the Sea.

Nothing really, we have had a fabulous weekend.
We have just returned home from whitehaven guest house. The whole house is spotlessly clean and the breakfast was exceptional with fresh fruit salad included. The hosts lane and simon were really nice and so helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

The only slight drawback to our room was the lack of space in the ensuite shower room, especially in the shower itself. Like many similar showers there was no shelf or space in the shower to store shampoo, shower gel etc. Minor matter overall.
Breakfast was lovely. I had fresh fruit salad every morning, followed by eggs, poached or scrambled and perfectly cooked. My husband had full English breakfast each morning which he very much enjoyed. We both had orange juice and cafetiere coffee and toast. Loveky.

Lane and Simon are lovely hosts.! Very genuine, friendly and great at what they do. Proper Yorkshire hospitality. The accommodation was clean, comfortable, well equipped and looked after. You can tell a lot of hard work goes into the place. Small details matter and the coffee and treats tray was replenished every day during our stay which was really appreciated. Breakfast was perfectly cooked and with plenty of tasty options to choose from. The location was ideal and my son loved the play park just round the corner. Overall a lovely stay and we would be glad to stay here again, thanks!

Spotlessly clean, comfortable room and very quiet. Delicious breakfast, ideal location to see Whitby plus parking next door with electric car charging points. Simon and Lane were lovely hosts. We’re really enjoyed our stay here and couldn’t fault it. We’d definitely stay again.
