Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThere was nothing we didn’t like about the property, although we struggled to use the remote online check-in prior to our arrival as we couldn’t upload the photo of our passport ( but in the end it didn’t matter as we couldn’t upload do it all upon arrival).
Clean and comfortable. Very thoughtful host, provided us with everything we could need and some lovely treats. Some nice books to read about Obuse.

Lovely guesthouse owned by a local publishing company. There were some very helpful tourist guides to Obuse left, along with a coupon for free gelato and chestnut snacks!

AustraliaThe toilet made bubbling sounds if the bath is drained too fast and the fridge makes popping sounds. I was personally minimally bothered, it was still broadly lovely but not flawless.
Very comfortable and easy check in. Bed, bathroom and interior were all very nice. The outside is also very pretty and the area is a pleasure to walk through. The English information was very good and the room had a voucher for a lovely local gelato place. The walk from the station was also nice. Also I had to enter the address in Google maps rather than Apple Maps to find it correctly.

CanadaNothing. Place was great!
Lovely spacious apartment with two washrooms, kitchen and dining room, living room, and upstairs bedroom. Excellent selection of locally-published books (definitely recommend the one on collaborative community-building in Obuse), local treats, and tourist guidance provided by the staff when we arrived. Very smooth check-in and checkout process!

AustraliaA pleasant change from the usual hotel accommodation. The garden setting is pretty and welcoming. The room was clean, quiet and very comfortable. I didn't get a chance to eat at the coffee shop, but I did call in to ask a question and the person working there was friendly and helpful. The welcome snacks are a lovely idea.

SingaporeThe pillows were uncomfortable and I wish there was someone present at the hotel.
The location was great! Easy to walk around the town and come back to the room! I like the attention to detail, the towels were soft and they wrote a handwritten note to welcome me. Also, I like the history book in the room!

AustraliaWe had no issues with this guesthouse
This was a beautiful space, with us only being disappointed by the fact that we were staying only one night. The location was great, and there were lots of little touches that showed how thoughtful and caring the hosts are.

AustraliaAhh the mattresses were hard for us Aussies but softer than some I’ve experienced in Japan
Love this stay! The beautiful piney scent when you walk into the room in the first indication of something special. It’s spacious, cosy, high ceilings give roomy country comfort. The reverse cycle air con instantly heats up the room. And the coffee, cake and apple juice add that extra thoughtful touch. Also bonus points for the electricity and USB ports at every useful place plus an extra power board and international power plug would also come in handy. Like the reading lamps too and they’re all easily switched off from the bed.

United StatesThe only complaints I have is that suite B is very small and the lighting situation is a bit weird (very stark lighting facing the beds and no lighting by the beds to read with) but we made do. I would stay here again for the location and the excellent service, but probably try a different suite.
Excellent location. The check in process was a bit tedious, but that's on me since I didn't complete the passport form beforehand although they emailed me about it multiple times. They left a nice hand written note, pajamas, more than enough towels for our stay, slippers, and treats and pour-over coffee from local businesses, which was a very nice touch. The place is run by a local book publisher, so you do feel like you're contributing to something positive for the community, and they had some really interesting books in the suite that they had published.

United KingdomThe accommodation was great, but Obuse itself was very quiet and it was not always easy to find restaurants that were open.
A very spacious 'little lodge' with comfortable beds and a well-equipped bathroom. The owner was very kind and helpful and left us with some nice treats. The Hokusai museum is very interesting

AustraliaShower water pressure very weak. They suggested to have a bath , but filling up the bath was taking ages . Garden view is basically the parking lot. I think it was very expensive for what was offered and for the location.
Room was spacious with comfy bed and parking out front. Also warm. They left coffee and little cakes for us which was so nice. Location is perfect to visit Obuse, but the town is super small and lots of things were closed.

CanadaExtremely overpriced. This was the most expensive accommodation of our entire trip and by far the most disappointing. I’m a hotel manager but this price gouging is unacceptable. Pillows were awful resulting in a terrible sleep. TV randomly turned on in the middle of the night despite the remote being in another room (batteries dead). We have left amazing reviews for everywhere we stayed as we have had the most fantastic hospitality and value for money at every property, and never felt taken advantage of due to staying during winter “high season”. But this was unacceptable. We paid 4 x the normal rate for sub-par accommodation. Extremely dissatisfied and would not recommend.
Very clean
