The hotel needs to arrange more shuttles connecting the hotel and JR station. After checking out at 11, there were no seats available on 11 o’clock shuttle. We were not informed that we need to reserve shuttle since lots of people are checking out at the same time. So we had to call taxi. Also we were asked way too many questions upon arrival. For tired tourists it’s hard to decide at what time they want breakfast for 3 days ahead. Also it was unusual for us to pay for cleaning services for the first day of staying. The other interesting thing was bar. It opens late, I believe around 7 pm. Unfortunately, you can’t just order one drink, you have to sign up for “all you can drink in 90 minutes” for I believe 3,000 Japanese yen.

The AC in the room didn’t really work and we got left at Otaru station after using the free shuttle bus to go down and grab some food from the hotel, the driver had overbooked and another car had to come get us (they came within 5 mins which was fine).

Great location and the view is superb! Really big bed which is great. The outdoor onsen is so amazing so if your thinking about booking because of it, definitely do it! Staff are also lovely.

Onsen smelled like chlorine and was slightly too hot.

Love the vibes of the hotel, vintage and luxurious feeling, tho compared to modern days hotel, it will not feel and look the same. Had a good stay, the staff were all wonderful. Polite and very hospitable, which lacks in many modern hotels nowadays. The view was lovely as well.

The spa bath in the room can do with a slight refurbishment

No one to receive us when we arrived and it was raining . There should be shelter / awning at the entrance to protect guests from the rain.

Special mention of a lady staff Kudo-San who spoke fluent English and was very helpful in arranging our luggage to be sent to the train station. She made the stay memorable !

Just a tiny bit dated decor and the room could use a big air out.

The private onsen was absolutely to die for, with a beautiful ocean view. We stayed in there for most of our time 😅 Food was amazing. Staff were lovely and incredibly helpful.

Was sprung a surprise that daily room cleaning comes at an extra cost. Rather unusual from all the different hotels I had ever stayed in in Japan.

Located on a hill top near the edge of the west sea front. Very beautiful and quite. The hotel setting has a slight European feel. In room hot bath is nice.

There is no safe side walk or walking path down to the aquarium and other areas in the near by town. The only way down was to walk on the narrow road shared with vehicles.

The meals were excellent. The view was excellent. The facilities were excellent.

- The building does look a bit dated. - Some parts of the room a bit dusty. - No laundry machines at the hotel.

- best location to see the coast of Shukutsu. Also within walking distance to the Otaru Aquarium and a kids playground. - Stayed here for a night back in 2008 and the quality remain top notch after 16 years. Room is nicely furnished with full amenities set. - Very nice view from room. Within 3-minute walking distance to the viewing deck of the coast. - in room onsen bath is very nice. - Nice breakfast offering. - Free parking right outside the hotel entrance. - kids friendly with kids amenities and kids meal.

This is not a complaint as it is a common matter but the English proficiency of most of the staff is significantly less than what you experience in other major cities like Tokyo and Osaka. Nevertheless, staff put is effort to communicate and was very helpful with some of our requests.

We liked the quiet location and the free shuttle bus that is provided in the morning and afternoon. This allows a nice peaceful environment to relax as well as convenience of having transport to JR Otaru station, from where we could easily travel to the places we needed or wanted to go.

There are areas of the room that had dust like the area behind the toilet door, the toilet roll holder etc which I think can be cleaned off easily, but the housekeeping needs to clean them.

The on suite onsen was amazing! We really enjoyed the time there The staffs were amazing too, always bowing and greeting when we arrive at the hotel In particular (did not take note of his name), there was one staffs who went the extra mile to help us set up the futon after we called for help in the middle of the night 😰 We were very thankful!

The age for the facilities is a bit old but you guys have maintained to your best, so nothing that i didn't like 👍

The hotel is more for the local as the staff in the hotel can hardly communicate in English having hard time to ask for instructions and recommendation of restaurants in Otaru.

The hotel is located at the hilltop which give a view of the Cliff and sea. The Breakfast is very good and portion is generous.
