Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

NetherlandsNot a whole lot of spa space. Some of the room furnishings are a bit dated.
Kind staff and great traditional kaiseki meals. Spa was comfortable. Location was good for the Hakone loop.

IsraelFar from Ashi lake.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay, but it is important to arrive with the right expectations. The hotel feels somewhat dated and is located deep in the mountains in a quiet and relatively isolated area, far from Lake Ashi. Access is most convenient by car or public transportation, and it is worth noting that the nearest convenience store is about a 20-minute walk away. The hostess was very kind and even provided complimentary transportation to and from Gora Station, which made getting around much easier. However, she does not speak English, so we relied on Google Translate for communication. Our room was relatively spacious, but the bathroom was small and outdated. The hotel offers two onsen facilities, one indoor and one outdoor. They are not particularly impressive, but they are adequate and provide a traditional Japanese bathing experience. We had the impression that the property primarily caters to domestic Japanese travelers rather than international tourists. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the food. Both the traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner exceeded our expectations. The meals were rich in flavors and textures, beautifully presented, and provided an authentic Japanese dining experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. In summary, this hotel may appeal to travelers seeking a quiet, traditional Japanese ryokan-style experience in the mountains. However, those looking for modern facilities, easy access to major attractions, or English-speaking service may find it less suitable. Overall, we would rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

South AfricaThe food was great. We enjoyed the onsen bath although the water was very hot so you couldn’t stay in for too long but my skin actually felt great afterwards. The staff were very friendly & eager to help.

AustraliaUnderstand Hotel Kasansui is closer to attractions but a distance from Hakone - Yumato and Odawara - nothing much else to complain..
We are blown away by the vibes and enthusiasm of the manager / reception Hiromi - every staff is very attentive to the guests - And the food - we had Halboard inclusion - the food is amazing - we wanted amd could only have seafood and eggs for our diet - they fully understood and that alone made the trip. Hiromi and All the staff at the restaurant are very good - attentive and on time services.. Location is excellent for the Local cable car - the Ropeway - Lake Ashi and the Pirate ship tour..

New ZealandThe traditional meals that were included weren't to our liking, but we did try as much as we could - there was just too much of it!
Lovely location up in the hills of Hakone. A traditional ryokan with friendly staff, a large room, and awesome onsens.

IndiaThe location! The property perse is in beautiful surroundings. And yes it is not far ... To reach it from Gora Station one has to use either a Cable Car with a queue of at least 40-45 minutes or else a taxi to go up the slope with luggage. This was missed by us while booking. Wonder if there was a mention of it!
The onsen facility, comfortable rooms and the clean setup and surroundings. And ofcourse the warmth of the staff. We had an excellent stay. The breakfast and dinner were inclusive which were served in wonderful Japanese style. That itself was an experience to share with our friends.

SwedenThe food is not really to our taste but that is a cultural thing. Would have appreciated a western style breakfast at least.

United StatesThe actual onsen is minimalist, but clean and adequate.
Meal service is superlative, meeting all the benchmarks of a quality Japanese-style breakfast and dinner. It is a little difficult to find; our taxi driver needed help from the dispatcher, but otherwise, a restful experience. The highlight was the property's staff, specifically the manager, who ran the check-in, carried our luggage, helped with meal service, and could not do enough to ensure guests enjoying their stay. If you want a place to relax, read a book, receive wonderful service, you could do much worse. I could spend 2-3 days here, with perhaps a taxi ride to a nearby attraction..

AustraliaShower was small and pressure needly. Half board was fully traditional evening meal and breakfast. High quality food. We stayed 2 nights but eat out the 2nd night and had breakfast elsewhere, personal choice. Would have been nice if the open fire was lit.
Location for Hakone Free pass loop. Friendly staff. Comfortable beds. Spacious room. Very quiet. The Onsen was amazing. First time we had used one. Very welcome after the journey here. Getting there from Tokyo was an adventure.
