Staying in a traditional Japanese Machiya was an amazing experience. Also, the host was amazing even offering us a free ride back to the train station in Kyoto.

Very clean and comfortable. Had everthing we needed and more. Owner was amazing and went out of his way to help us. Bicycles were available to use. Close to shops, buses and trains. My son I loved staying here and will definitely book here again the next time we are in Kyoto.

The property is a little way out of Kyoto Central BUT this was not a detraction for us. It could be for other guests. Check the distance from downtown Kyoto if this is important to you

Everything! This standalone guest house is amazing. Honestly we wanted for nothing. Bonus points for the massive washing / dryer in one machine, that allowed us to fully clean all of growing pile of clothes. The hosts were fantastic, definitely the best communicatin of our 15 day trip.

Such a great location that is centrally based but still in a quieter residential area. The bikes were an amazing feature for our whole family. The host was so kind and lives on the same general property. Great space for our family with teens!

This is a comfortable two-floor building with two bedrooms on the second floor. It is perfectly equiped and everything is so well maintained. It was rainy during our séjour and we can use the umbrellas offered by the owners of the house. They live just in the building next to this building and they are always ready to answer our questions and help us.

Very kind host who met us and gave us a tour of the property. Was also easy to get hold of during the stay, and kindly gave us a lift to the station when we left. Property was wonderful, very clean and well stocked. In a great location near some supermarkets, shrines, and temples. Had some bus stops nearby as well.

Great hosts! Very comfortable and spacious for my family of 6. LOVED the Keurig (we love coffee). Owners were super helpful and explained how to use the washing machine. Walked to many of the main tourists attractions. My kids LOVED staying in a traditional Japanese home.

Location is top - u can easily walk by feet to several sightseeings such as temples and imperial palace. It’s also super convenient to use bicycles, that are provided free of charge by host. The house is a real Japanese experience! It is super comfy and large, everything that u may need is its place - like coffee, washing machine and detergent and many more. Definitely stay here in my future trips!

The apartment is authentic Japanese, very wide and comfortable. Everything was very clean and the hosts were very welcoming and attended to any request. The kitchen is highley equipped and the sheets and tatami are soft and very clean. Also there are bicycles for your own use. The host was so welcoming he insisted on taking us in his own personal car to the station since we were with our young children and a lot of baggage. We had a wonderful time and hope to come back.

Shige was an amazing host. He helped us with everything, even gave us a ride to the train station on the day we left. The location is in a quiet, beautiful neighborhood. Shige provides bicycles for all of the guests and we rode all over Kyoto. It was the best way to get around. The house is lovely and the washing machine/dryer was great and easy to use. Shige provides Nespresso coffee, water, as well as a few cooking items like oil and soy sauce. We cooked a meal there and the kitchen had everything we needed. Toilet and shower were awesome.

Lovely apartment - spacious, clean, quiet and well equipped. The owners thought of everything we needed. Shige and his wife were very hospitable, he gave us a ride to the station when we left. They supply bikes, washer/dryer, fully equipped kitchen. Bathroom is lovely - bathtub and shower were both great. The property is in a great location - near the Heian shrine and various museums and excellent restaurants. Very easy to get around everywhere by bus. We stayed for 11 days and it was perfect.

Close to everything we needed: combini, Fresca grocery, Kyoto University, bus to bigger tourist sites. Around the corner from a gorgeous cafe - Woven. Homey decor, including a kotatsu. New AC and appliances. Helpful owners.

I regret not staying longer. Kyoto is an amazing place and certainly one of the best places I have visited. I look forward to my return some day as there is so much to do there.

We really enjoyed our stay at Machiya Kyoto Shogoin. Thanks very much to our kind and helpful host. We were sad to leave and would not hesitate in coming back again to stay or in recommending Machiya Kyoto Shogoin to others.

Everything was beautiful and the hosts were so sweet and accommodating. I wish we'd stayed there for longer. The location was quiet and peaceful but still very easy to access everything. The house was amazing and had everything you could possibly need and more. It was the fourth place we stayed in Japan and it was by far the most memorable. I hope to visit again.

We stayed at Machiya Shogoin for two weeks. All those who know Kyoto can easily see on the map that the location is fabulous+the bicycles are an ingenious addition. We never used the public transportation, not even to go to the West side of Kyoto or Arashiyama. Sightseeing Kyoto with bicycles is simply wonderful. The neighborhood is very elegant. Try wondering East towards the montains:-) The house is practically new, super clean and extremely well equipped. All Japanese style, which is fun for foreigners. There is a minute Japanese garden in the back, but more importantly the house is adjacent to Shogoin temple, hence it is very quite. For 2 people it is very spacious, for a family of up to 4 people the space is very nice. The hosts are friendly and very very generous with everything. Will definitely try to stay here again in the future.

It can get a bit cold in the winter in the historic house, but heaters are available in most rooms The stairs to the second floor are steep, but most facilities are on the first floor.

This is a historic machiya house within walking distance of many Kyoto sights. The house has great atmosphere. The host was very welcoming, the house was well stocked. The house has many rooms and can accommodate a larger group of people. There was convenient parking for a small car. Bicycles were also available. We really enjoyed our stay!
