Room was clean and comfortable. we had a private bath in the room. Staff was also very patient in showing us around the ryokan. We reached the ryokan around 2pm. Staff told us to come back again at 3pm (check in time). As we were about to leave, the staff ran out again to inform us that our room was actually ready. so they allowed us to check in before 3pm. We had our dinner and breakfast in a private room, next to the lobby. It was my first time trying horse sashimi. it tasted so good. Kaiseki dinner was beyond awesome.

For the public onsen, the shower area is situated in the outdoor space so it can get very cold to shower in winter. The water taps are also not easy to turn on so it's challenging to shower before going in onsen in the cold.

The cave onsen is very unique and impressive. Both the breakfast and dinner are great.

If the stay is more than one night, i.e. need to go out for lunch, many restaurants in the neighbourhood did not open on weekdays and so the ones open are very busy. Even if they open choices are still limited. Have no problem if the stay include meals.

Staff are nice and efficient. Attentive to the needs of small kid.

This Ryokan is great with two amazing outdoor and cave hot bath. Very quiet, peaceful. Our room is very spacious with a private hot bath and little garden. I liked everything of this ryokan except only complain is the toilet has a smell. But, good thing is toilet is far desperate with the other rooms, no big issue with the smell. Only when you are using the toilet. ^^; Our family had good time relax here!

Amazing room! Huge! Love the surprisingly big and pretty outdoor onsen! Very peaceful surroundings. Amazing and huge array of food! Very friendly staff! (Especially the lady who served us dinner!). Dinner was also served in private rooms. Thoughtful touches like they actually hung number plates on our room door because we were non Japanese and they were concerned that we.could not recognise our room with the name in Kanji.

We stayed in "Japanese Style Room with Private Bathroom" and had a private small onsen in our room. It was incredible and 100% worth it. Everything was perfect: - the large size of the room - the onsen (both private and public); the public onsens are split into male and female and both have an outside onsen and a cave onsen which is amazing - the food (both dinner and breakfast) is great and a lot - and ofc the super friendly staff Can't recommend this place enough. This was one of the best experiences we had during our long stay in Japan.

Location: This ryokan/onsen is in a quiet area 10 minutes away from much busier onsen town. Nice to visit busier town with shops but stay in relaxing quiet location. Onsens are outdoors in nature and very clean.

Some decorations in the lounge are a bit dated and might be good to refresh with new hanging frames etc.

Traditional tatami rooms good for big family. Kaiseki dinners were delicious and very good service too. Fantastic outdoor onsens. Free coffee and teas in the common lounge. A 5 min drive to the Kurokawa onsen.

The ryokan has a slightly contemporary feel to it - meals are served in the restaurant area, albeit each group has its own room. There is also a cosy coffee lounge/library where guests can relax outside their rooms. Our room (there were 4 of us) had 2 single beds and 2 futons in the living area. We had an indoor hot spring bath and one on an outdoor terrace, which was lovely. The public bath was great and included a cave bath. The food was excellent. Breakfast, unsurprisingly, is Japanese, which can be a bit of a challenge to those for whom sashimi at 8am would not be their first choice. Staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. The ryokan is about 5 mins by car from Kurokawa Onsen.
