Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaIt would be better if windows were equipped with curtains, as the sun rose quite early during our stay.
We had an excellent stay at the Bohemian's Shelter thanks to Gas' warm welcome. We appreciated the included breakfast and the kitchen facilities (including beer on tap!), as well as the shuttle service to various ski resorts. The secluded location in the forest made for a relaxing, cozy stay.

New ZealandWarm friendly guesthouse. It’s not close to town but the free shuttles Gas offers are outstanding. He’s so organised and a truly wonderful host. Thanks Gas you’re a legend!

TaiwanIf free laundry was included, this place would be a perfect 10!
There’s a free shuttle to and from the bus terminal every day, making it easy to get to all the ski resorts in Hakuba.

AustraliaOnly one shower, so sometimes there is a queue (which is common in a lot of hostels in this area anyways).
Gas, Bianca and Liam were absolute legends. Always down for a yap and made the place feel like a home away from home. Dinners were awesome, and while the location is a bit further away, there are shuttles to and from the bus stops and into town in the evening. Being a bit more isolated made for a really nice, relaxed atmosphere, as everyone was keen to get to bed to be able to shred the next day! Comfy beds and a cozy common area to chill out in. I don't usually stay in the same place twice, but I just might be back for another stay in 2026 ❄️💙

New ZealandOfc as per everyone the location but that isn't really a problem with the service Gas provides.
Gas was absolutely amazing and provided the best service considering the location you're in. The price was decent! The food was awesome. The people were great too! Would absolutely come back here if I return to Hakuba! He made life super easy and possible, whether it be before or during your stay!

New ZealandLovely place to stay. Very friendly and considerate host and staff, who were able to accomodate vegan dinners for me! Had fun chatting to the other people staying, bed was comfortable, and the house was nice and quiet at night. Even saw some snow monkeys on the drive home from the slopes! Easy to get to the slopes - Gaspard runs three shuttles to and from the slopes during peak season with an easy booking system. The shuttles go directly to Happo and Iwatake and to the town for the others where there is generally a courtesy shuttle to catch to and from the skifield.

AustraliaNothing, it was great.
Super cosy rooms, and all the bits and pieces needed for a snowboarding trip (dry room etc). Gas also drives you to the mountains or the closest shuttle bus (and picks you up) which is great. He can also accomodate some ad hoc after hours transport for a lower fee than an uber if you want a night on the town. Low cost dinners on offer and free breakfast as well - amazing value! There are also snow monkeys outside from time to time!

ThailandThe only downside is the location—you might feel a bit dependent on the owner for transportation. But it’s not a big deal since the schedule is easy to manage.
Overall, it’s a fantastic place for skiers and snowboarders looking to save money.

TaiwanThe house is located in a peaceful and beautiful setting. We’ve walked around the area nearby, Bohemian Shelter is definitely the most wonderful and cosy place to stay while in Hakuba! The host Gaspard and his dad are both very friendly and helpful with guests’ needs. The dinner they offer is delicious too!

SingaporeLocation but you get what you pay for.
Got picked up from train station on the first day and dropped off at the bus station on the last day as request. Shuttle service to the ski resorts around Hakuba was at reasonable times. Start and end of lift timings. Gas, Bianca and Liam are really nice people to talk to. Great dinner as well. Super affordable accoms. Location might be a turn off but don't hesitate to ask the staff about getting a ride to town in the afternoon if you're not heading to the slopes in the morning.

AustraliaIt’s a bit far out of town, but the owner does 3 runs into town in the mornings and 2-3 in the afternoon. He also offers runs into town in the evening for a very reasonable price.
The building has been set up very well with a lovely traditional style breakfast area, in the next room is a great communal hangout area. Everything was great value and the owner is a legend. Super knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
