Some additional charges we were not prepared for such as Aircon and laundry, we learned later in the trip this was slightly more expensive in comparison, but at least the money was going to a family and not a big company. The host stated the laundry was mentioned on booking.com as additional service, but I can still only see "washing machine" included in the facilities. Not the end of the world and also a fair price. About a 20 mins walk outside the main strip of hikkaduwa which is ok but depending on the heat you may want a tuk tuk. For us it wasn't an issue since we spent most of the time chilling.

Brilliant place to stay overall. The room was clean and the host was very accommodating. The host Wasantha made us welcome from the first moment by having our room ready for us earlier than the regular check in time. Had breakfast and a dinner with the host on a couple of occasions at an additional cost. The food was great each time and worth the money. Wasantha was very helpful in suggesting things to do and places to go around the area. He also priced a tour for us but we were only wanting to relax during our time there but this sounded excellent to see some of the surrounding sites! Overall very happy with the stay and would definitely go back.

    Everything was great

Nice villa with a cosy terrace in a quiet area of Hikkaduwa (10-15min walk to the main street). The host is very helpful and makes sure you’re having the best time :)

    Nothing, it was perfect!

Feels.like home! The place is 5 min with bike from the beach and the villa has lots of space. We stayed with a group in two rooms and had the whole house for ourself. Wasante, the owner was amazing and eager to help.

The staff are also very helpful and kind especially during the morning breakfast as they always want to tend to whatever your needs are. The breakfast is also a major positive at this hotel as they have a wide variety of local fruits and a amazing local cuisine. The hotel is also taking a great green initiative by using metal straws, glass bottles and even running an waste water treatment plant thereby conserving water.

Wasanta is the best host ever! We felt ourselves like at home with a lot of care and kindness from Wasanta and his wife.❤️ The terrace is very beautiful and even in the middle of the day wasn't hot there. The house was built more 100 year ago and it's very beautiful, also has gongeous garden around with palms, fruits trees and wild animals🐒. The W-iFi is the best WI-FI among all places we stayed in Sri Lanka. I enjoyed work remotely with high speed internet, nice view from the terrace and delicious tea that Wasanta prepared ❤️ The hosts cook very delicious food too. We will come back for sure!

well, I can't find anything bad for this price.

Grand Villa is a really great place. But the main treasure of the house is its host Wasanta! An amazing man who can solve any issue. He will make everything fine for a reasonable price. So you can trust him. Don't hesitate to ask. About the house. It has a great location aside from the main road. It's about 2 km from the train station. The price is around 150-200 rupees to get on the beach by tuk-tuk (any point in Hikkaduwa). But while you are too pale you should expect a little bit higher price. Almost the official law of all Sri Lanka. So try to get suntan ASAP. Or rent a scooter. 3-5 minutes by scooter (ask Wasanta, he know some guys, I got a pretty good scooter, and there were no problems in the end). Grand Villa is a quiet place. It has a good yard fenced with trees. The house has a pretty good kitchen with some appliances (blender, toaster, fridge, dishes, teapots e.t.c.). Wasanta can provide tea or something to eat. The rooms aren't really large. It has a big bed, wardrobe, and bath (hot water 24/7). But the size of the room isn't really important, because most of the time you would spend on the terrace. The rooms were cleaned every 2 or 3 days. Internet is really fast (for Sri Lanka). Fiber connection, speed around 70-100 mb/s. I used it for remote work. 5 minutes by foot - groceries and fruits, 8 minutes - gym.

I have stayed at 4 places in Sri Lanka and this was the best one. The host is genuinely good person, helping animals and random people. The place is well equipped. Usually, houses in Sri Lanka are connected to the internet via a mobile connection, but this place has a fibre connection, which is a big difference in speed. I was pleasantly suprised to find an actual kitchen. Other places I have stayed at before in Sri Lanka often listed a kitchen as a facility, but did not really have a kitchen (for example just a room with a sink and 2 plates). This place had everything I needed for cooking my own meals. There is plenty of comfortable space to sit and the garden is well maintained (no burning of plastic) and full of life (even a peacock visited once).

Grand Villa is a beautiful house in a calmer part of Hikkaduwa with a nice garden with squirrels, birds, even chameleons, and a friendly cute domestic cat. We were pleasantly surprised by the Internet connection there. It was very convenient since we needed to work on our computers from there. Probably one of the few places with an optic fibre connection. Wasantha, the manager, is a very nice guy. He was constantly making sure we had everything we needed. He took us to some trips around. I needed to go to the hospital in nearby city of Galle and he gave me a ride there. The rooms are comfortable, clean and they clean them regularly every few days. They provide breakfast. You can choose from several styles. All of them tasty :) There is also an equipped kitchen if you want to cook your own food. I can definitely recommend this place. If I am ever back in this area I will stay in Grand Villa again.
