Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesWe needed a 3 bedroom villa and there were none available at the beach. Would have liked to have been closer to the beach.
The breakfast buffet was excellent! The variety was amazing and the food was excellent at all of the restaurants. The villa was wonderful and loved the bikes for transportation along with the carts. The best part was the staff. Everyone we talked with were so friendly and caring.

IrelandAs maybe become apparent from reading reviews about the property, the food is outrageously priced and just about average. I’m talking $75 for a fish entree with no sides, hundred dollar steaks, hundred dollar for the cheapest bottle of wine (most from 2022 or younger!) - and that’s before they ask you for American style 20% tips, where waiter doesn’t even walk you through the menu, give you recommendations and no sommeliers to be seen. The staff were super friendly, spoke great English, and were very accommodating with the baby, but it was mismatched to the price you were paying. La Fondita in Pueblito (15 min cycle and even longer by golf cart as you have to transfer) had a quiet little taqueria with decent food at a much more reasonable price. Our favorite meal was in a cheap tavern style taqueria in PDC El Fogón which was probably under $25 with tip. Other than the meals, there were a few other instances where we felt let down by the price we were paying versus what we got. It rained a bit our third night, and I woke up to loud dripping from a leak in the roof that I had landed on a computer and iPad, which were luckily not damaged. This was fixed really quickly, and we didn’t have to change rooms, however I felt this was an opportunity for a hotel manager to come and speak with us, but it was taken quite casually we felt. It must happen quite often. Basic timeliness - our food was delayed by almost 45 minutes our second night at Cello and it was so mediocre. We ended up having to eat it in a rush and leave. Another night our golf cart was delayed by 20 minutes and we had to cancel dinner and go to the closer restaurant instead - both dictated by our baby’s schedule. There are a lot of families, yet the elevated sense of the hotel is not brought down by this, which was nice. However, for a hotel catering to so many people with young children, we found it surprising no Restaurant offered all day dining, and dinner started at 5:30 pm.
After reading several reviews, Mayakoba seemed like the right balance between luxury and a comfortable family friendly vacation. However, while we had originally booked a Bliss pool villa, several reviews said that these were a little dated and we didn’t like the idea of being so far from the beach and having to wait for golf carts to get around, especially because we have an eight month old baby I was able to get a last-minute upgrade at a decent price for one of the ocean front King suites which was worth every penny. These villas are right next to the beach, and a short walk from secondary reception and the sands restaurant and beach club, and the secondary pool which is mainly for families it would appear our room was incredible, the lush mangrove forest was incredible, and we even made use of the bicycles to get around a bit, and the sands beach club was impeccably designed and quite new looking, we had a lovely time spending days in a shaded cabana between the pool and the beach drinking coconuts and playing with our son. From day one we were introduced to 2 members of staff who would be our concierge who we could reach via text message and would arrange anything we needed, which I had never experienced at a hotel before and was really impressive.

This amazing hotel is the picture perfect of Mayakoba! It's one of those hotel that you drive up to and say "Wow"! I'm so happy that l got to stay here!" Our villa 931 was with a direct view of the sea. The villa was large, nice and comfortable; we got a fantastic swim pool, private bed beach double shower, a good sized bathroom. The beach is not good, but I knew already. The food and the service room was amazing, the customer service was great and meticulous was very professional and always available to help us! A special mention goes to Miss Gaby and Regina! Butler specials! Thank you very much! This is a paradise place to stay and forget all your troubles.

United StatesFood in restaurants is very expensive. However, you can also explore other restaurants of nearby resorts with more decent prices. Some malfunctions in the room. However, staff is available to address.
Gorgeous facility, nature calling from every corner, beautiful and spacious room, with a heated pool as part of the room. The staff was welcoming, friendly and attentive. The food in the Banyan Tree Mayakoba restaurants is terrific. Really good. You have privacy and close to the beach. Roaming around the resort, and close-by resorts with bicycles that were provided to us was a great way to both exercise and enjoy the resort.

United KingdomWe went off season and there was construction right next to the breakfast which was aweful noise; they attracted groups/destination weddings which at times was overwhelming and did take away from the spa/chill feeling
The staff, the nature vibe which made it different from many of the hotels there that tend to be have the look and feel of big cruise ships-the banyan tree feels organic, the quality of the food, the location, loved the bicycle option with which one could tour the compound

United StatesI did ask for them to come fix the light mirror in our bathroom and that was never done. Was not a dealbreaker, but I thought for the price I was paying they would send someone right away.
They had a wonderful breakfast that you could do either the buffet or à la cart. With every imaginable type of food, pastries, yogurt, eggs, salmon, crêpes, waffles. I also love the fact that they provided you with bikes for your own personal use so you can go all around the property and easily to the beach. Our room was spectacular and that it had its own pool, whirlpool and an extra bonus room that you can go watch TV and hang out if your spouse didn’t wanna stay up and watch TV with you. There were so many restaurants to choose from and the best part is you had your own private concierge.

United StatesBeach, high tips that every person around us was expecting (should not be there at all). Concierge service is not good.
Great resort however we found that price for food was too expensive. Also, tipping in all the restaurants should not be imposed. Should not even be mentioned. Paying $1000 for the room (cheapest option) plus $4000 minimum for dinner should cover all the tipping. And asking for minimum 18%. You will never find it in Europe. Few things they will benefit from: no tipping, have list of activities in a room daily for any live music performance or yoga classes. They should have these options. However, we didn't know about it and never got to experience. Biggest dissapointment is quality of the beach. It doesnt show on any hotel photo that they build the barrier in the water and have huge weeds issue.

United StatesWe stayed in an oceanfront suite which was very spacious. There was a private pool, and the open bathroom was spacious. The shower was equipped with steam options, making daily shower quite enjoyable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant choices (Italian, Thai, seafood, steak) were excellent. The property was huge, but we were able to get around with bikes that came with the room, and golf cart transportation service was always available. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!

United States-Did not like how our private villa the outside door was still accessible by any workers for them to open. That did not give us so much of a private feeling.
Loved the room with the outdoor pool. Unfortunately they few days we booked it rained so we did not enjoy the pool how we wanted.

United StatesThe ceiling in the living room was constantly dropping/ leaking debri. It wasnt addressed at all. No one would clean the debri on the table. We had requested for a childrens bicycle and helmet on the first day of arrival on thursday but didnt get the bicycle until monday the day before our departure. We had called multiple times. We spoke to another family that landed on a date later than us and they received 2 bicycles for both their children. That was disappointing because my son wanted to ride a bicycle the every day....
The hidden gem is El Pueblito no one really talks about. The food at burger shop and el fondita was amazing. Pricing was reasonable. Food was delicious. I would recommend to family and friends.
