Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

room was small, bed is right next to the window so less comfortable for the person next to the window, a small table would be a plus.

You could only use the one small lift to go up, no stairs available. (Other than in emergency.) Little kid running around upstairs one morning, can't do much about that tho ! 😆
Fantastic family room for 5 of us, with 2 shower rooms and great aircon. No noise from outside. Great breakfast, friendly staff. Nothing to fault. Brilliant location walking distance from town centre and right by loads of great eateries and bars and the funicular.

Not to do with the property and the facilities but prior to arriving I did receive ALOT of phishing emails through booking.com via the hotel. I believe they were hacked. Not great. I was tempted to cancel based on this but glad I didn’t as the hotel was a great find. One thing to bear in mind is that there is some noise from rooms above.
The family room is superb! Perfect for our family of 4. The kids loved the bedroom layout and would have loved to stay longer. Beds were comfortable. The breakfast was great! Staff were lovely overall.

Small room size without place to put suitcases. No place for toiletries in the bathroom.
Great location!! Right by time out market and easily walkable to many areas of lisbon. Loved the hotel decor and the breakfast was delicious every morning. friendly staff.

I only wish there was better parking options
It was much nicer than we expected. The room was very comfortable, clean, and well equipped. The location was amazing and the staff were very nice and helpful.

I had a problem with the issuance of the invoice. At first, the hotel refused to issue me an invoice, claiming that I had to get it from Booking. After Booking intervened, I received the invoice and everything is fine now.
Incredibly comfortable beds, coffee, water, and even rosé as a bonus for each article.

Location is excellent, no mega hills to get to and from the property. Staff are really lovely, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was equally lovely with a very relaxed atmosphere and not overcrowded. Overall would definitely stay again, a great location to explore the city.

I wish the rooms were a bit bigger.
The location was good. Accessible, within walking distance to everything you needed and wanted to see, if you don't mind all the stairs. The room was functional but not a lot of room for 3 guests. Having a balcony overlooking the street was a bonus but the noise from the street and nightlife goes on all night long. We had complimentary bottle of wine upon our arrival which was a nice touch.

We stayed on two separate occasions in two different rooms and the beds in both rooms were both similar. Whilst they were comfortable they were both built into the wall space with no access to get in or out from both sides. This was most annoying having to climb over your partner if a toilet break was needed through the night leading to a disturbed sleep.
The breakfast was fine and the staff were superb. The location was excellent and close to the market which was lovely.

I loved this hotel, the location, the value and the convenience. The morning/night staff were very friendly and welcoming. I recommend getting the breakfast. There are so many restaurants near by, the pizza place a block away was exceptional. There are plenty of bars near by. The room itself was comfortable, there was enough space for 2 large open suitcases. It can be noisy at night but if you are amongst it, it shouldn’t be an issue (they do supply earplugs). I will definitely be recommending this hotel to anyone visiting Lisbon.

Nothing it was perfect.
This hotel was a fabulous place to stay. Couldn't have found a better location, lots of vibrancy around the area including the Time Out Markets which were amazing, but the room was still very quiet and couldn't hear any street noise. The room was perfect for a family, great size, 2 bathrooms. Breakfast was excellent. We loved our stay in Independente Bica.
