Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomCooked breakfast options very poor. Sloppy scrambled eggs and awful bacon. I suggest Chefs find out how bacon should be cooked. Worse still was the single cheapest toaster I have ever come across. Not only could it only do two pieces at a time (so long queues waiting to toast bread) but it did not lock down to toast the bread. Please buy a decent, new, four pieces toaster! Cost less than €200. Poor catering standards were unbelievable for such a beautiful hotel!

PortugalThe grounds need some TLC . Red paving near pool bar coming up , uneven. Pool lining green and coming off in parts. In our balcony paint had peeled off in parts. Might seem small but this attention to detail makes a difference. For the price we expect more. There were too few staff and an absence of any manager on the ground. It makes it hard for the staff who were very nice but spread too thin. Evening meal was disappointing and overpriced for what was delivered. Breakfast was average. Cornflakes were stale. No kettle and tea and coffee in the room seems parsimonious. With some improvements this could be a really great place to stay.
Beautiful setting in an historic castle . Great views. Clean room.

United KingdomThe restaurant main courses are slightly over priced.
Alcácer is a picturesque village near the coast. The hotel is built in the grounds of an old castle. My third floor room had a great westerly view of the rice fields and estuary. The swimming pool is excellent. The restaurant is pleasant even though the choice is limited.

ItalyThe only minor downside was that the curtains in the room did not block out the morning light entirely, which caused us to wake up earlier than planned.

PortugalBeautiful pousada on top of the hill. Spacious rooms with a very comfortable bed and pillows. The grounds and inside all very well maintained. Soft big towels and wonderful breakfast buffet. Staff extremely friendly. We were allowed to put our bicycles in the church so they were safely stored there.

Czech RepublicThe property is not well maintained (great potential but you just notice it is not in good shape). Low investment. Some staff good others very bad (for instance in breakfast if we wanted to go to the tables outside we needed to move things ourselves, they did not help and looked at us in strange way…). The price is not that far from other hotels from same group to justify this difference of standard
Is a nice place in a castle. The rooms are big and comfortable. Breakfast is ok.

United KingdomAmazing setting and ambiance, an ancient convent inside a castle on top of the hill, beautiful views across the Rio Sado and the ricefields. The hotel is tastefully decorated, evocative of its medieval history and features several inviting nooks to relax with a book or enjoy a drink. Great quality buffet breakfast. Pool not in use.

United StatesThe hike back up the hill after we went to eat for din din. Should have driven. The chairs in the room were a bit used.
Ambiance of the hotel built within the castle, using some of the original castle walls. The staff on site was exemplary. The beds were great. Loved the fireplace fire at night, with a cold drink. Das gut.

PortugalThe lighting was very poor in the public lounge, not at all welcoming. The bar was never staffed, and we had to keep ringing the reception. They had no ice for the drinks on one occasion. I felt the whole place lacked finesse, which you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
The room was spacious, clean, and a lovely comfortable bed. It had a great view from the balcony and was convenient for the town and surrounding area. The Pousada being of great historical interest was a real find, we enjoyed the Museum underneath. The breakfast was good with a lot of choice. We did not eat in the restaurant.

United StatesWeekend mornings were a bit chaotic for breakfast. Took quite a long time to get done with it. Perhaps more staff for the extra guests on holidays would help. Monday was sooo much better!
Room and bathroom were HUGE....Real castle size! Comfortable bed and nice views from the tallest spot in town. We chose this stay, to be near Comporta beaches, and the 20 minutes ride back and forth were worthwhile. Good, clean room and breakfast included for a very fair price!
