Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesIt’s a bit challenging to arrive as the streets are very narrow and frequently taxis refuse to take you directly to the Hotel. Only Taxis and locals may drive those narrow roads. Unfortunately there are a vast number of unscrupulous taxis.
It’s directly at The Castelo do São Jorge. A beautiful historical area filled with history and amazing architecture. The Hotel is comfortable and feels like you are a guest at the castle, complimentary Port wine, the breakfast is wonderful, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

The beautiful atmosphere and grounds. Loved the location which is adjacent to the castle which was a highlight. Complementary port in the room. Very clean and comfortable bed and nice bedding. Good shower and pressure. Beautiful hotel with a lot of character.

Everything. The staff, the room, the port each day restocked. Evening drinks and tea, coffee and pastries available all day. Location was perfect for us being right by the castle and quieter part of the city, especially at night

The pripery is beautifully restored in castle and staff very helpful. Steep streets so plan to get there by taxi or shuttle. You can!walk to bus 727 to get to place de Figueroa or take tram 28 for exciting ride. Castle has amazing sunset views. Peacocks come to visit and always!coffee and tea and cakes in lobby and really good breakfast spread. Very relaxing atmosphere and beautifully decorated. Large courtyard with fountain and sitting area and books.

United KingdomIt’s at the top of a very steep hill so access may be a bit of an issue…
Next to the historic castle but an oasis of calm literally one street away from a heavy tourist. The rooms felt just the right size with an incredible mixing/breakfast area and a delightful outdoor space. Staff were incredibly friendly and were always available and really helpful. Continental breakfast was standard but the snacks left out for guests during the day were brilliant. Awesome

United KingdomNot really a problem but there is a fairly short steep hill up to the hotel from the bus and tram stops. Only certain taxis are able to access the hotel itself.
The courtyard, breakfasts, comfortable bed, availability of water, tea, coffee & cake during the day. Also a glass of sparkling wine in the evening. We really enjoyed our stay.

United KingdomWe understood at the time of booking what to expect… in reality this was exceeded… thank you.
The location was great to get around OLD TOWN on foot, to travel into Lisbon city and local restaurants. Bespoke in style with courteous, friendly and easy going hospitality… the breakfast were plentiful, the hotel and our room was clean and well looked after… We appreciated the nice touches from complimentary “bubbles”, to pastries, coffee and Porto in the room… and the odd Peacock. Thank you !

United KingdomMattress wasn't the most comfy, for me, apart from that I wouldn't change a thing.
Breakfast was great, lots to choose from. Location was excellent, very high, but nice and quiet once you get there apart from the the Peacocks, but they live there lol. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The Hotel it self is very pretty and well kept. Would recommend.

United StatesIt’s a bit of a hike but the ambiance is worth it
Beautiful property! I loved our stay here in the Alfama neighborhood. The beds were so comfy. The AC very nice. Has an elevator and the breakfast was perfect. It’s a bit of a walk up hill but you can grab a taxi if you need to. But lovely stay. It’s actually above the entrance to the castle. Great to spend the evenings there watching the sunset from the castle outdoor cafe. Also so close to the 28 tram line and Saint Antonino church and a pastel bakery with the same name (Sant Antonino) - the best! Grab one on the walk down the hill.

United StatesMy only complaint is our room was on the ground floor so not much air and light. In the future I will request a nicer accommodation.
Absolutely amazing! Literally within the old medieval city walls. Proximity to the castle is ideal. The winding streets of the Alfama are so charming and the views from the hilltop are lovely. The hotel has a delicious breakfast spread, treats available all day and champagne available each evening. Quaint courtyard to enjoy all of the above!
