Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

SwitzerlandThis was a great getaway in the savanna! Peaceful environment, surely one of the best secured and respected eco leaving systems in a Maasai Village. Love nature? You are most likely to love and enjoy your stay and environment. My family and I were truly grateful for the experience!

A Truly Unique and Heartwarming Experience with the Maasai Tribe at Eco Boma 🌍💫 We’ve just returned from an unforgettable four-day stay with the Maasai tribe at Eco Boma, and I can say without hesitation that it was the experience of a lifetime. From the moment we arrived, we were embraced by the vibrant Maasai community, staying in a traditional mud hut that allowed us to immerse ourselves fully in their culture. Our time was filled with incredible experiences, including visiting the local school, meeting the village’s medicine man, and spending time with the children. Watching my son interact and play with them was both fun and heartwarming—it was so special for him to learn about this rich culture first-hand. We also had the chance to try traditional Maasai activities like throwing spears, making beads, and learning how to start a fire. A memorable part of our stay were two walks—one at sunset and another at sunrise—where we explored the stunning surroundings and learned more about the land and its wildlife. Every evening, we could dance under the stars with the Maasai, which was a magical experience, particularly for our 7-year-old. The food was simple yet delicious, truly a taste of the land. The staff at Eco Boma were incredibly kind and accommodating, always ensuring we were comfortable and well taken care of. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and their warmth added to the overall experience. What made this experience even more meaningful was knowing that 30% of the cost of our stay directly supports the local school. It felt good to know that our visit was helping the next generation of Maasai children. We also booked two safaris arranged by Eco Boma—one to Tarangire National Park and another to Lake Manyara National Park. For $900, including an incredible guide and lunch, it was absolutely worth every penny. The same guide picked us up from Kilimanjaro airport for $150, and the hotel arranged a seamless taxi service to near Arusha for $100.

IrelandOur 2-night stay at Maasai Eco Boma & Lodge in Makuyuni was truly unforgettable — a genuine highlight of our family’s trip to Tanzania. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with a traditional Maasai dance, setting the tone for an enriching cultural experience. The staff were exceptionally friendly and made us feel part of the community from the start. We took part in a morning walk with our Maasai warrior guides, toured the local village and the school project. Meeting the principal and having a guided tour from the vice principal — including a stop in a classroom full of bright, engaging children — was a real privilege. We also had the chance to try beading, meet the local healer, watch a fire-making demonstration, and enjoy a wide selection of delicious local dishes. One evening we dined under the stars, followed by energetic Maasai dancing — an experience none of us will forget. Staying in a traditional boma gave us a unique glimpse into the Maasai way of life, and we came away with a deep appreciation for their strong sense of community and cultural pride. This was not just a stay — it was a meaningful connection with an extraordinary culture. We can’t recommend it highly enough!

AustriaThat I can't live there forever :(
A truly life-changing experience and perhaps the best stay of our entire trip. I can't describe how welcoming, inclusive, and warm these people are. The moment you arrive, you feel like you are part of them and their tribe. You sleep in charming huts with excellent toilet and shower facilities, and the beds were very comfortable. Honestly, I would have been as happy just sleeping on the floor in the huts with them as long as I can just stay there. We enjoyed a village tour, and if you want, you can also dress like a Maasai. While we learned a lot about their culture, for me, the highlight was just playing with the kids and petting all their animals. Their children were the sweetest! Please say hi to all of them, especially Gracy—such a lovely girl! I felt so happy playing with them, dancing, and singing. We even danced with the Maasai, and my boyfriend is still so impressed by how high he managed to jump! The mamas were also really nice ages made sure to include me in the dancing. The girls from the reception area were so kind, friendly, and caring. I seriously didn’t want to leave. I just wanted to stay there forever, and I cried rivers when we left. Even though it was a short visit, I don’t know why, but these people found a big spot in my heart. I miss you already!

Wow. Wow. Wow. This was such an amazing experience. Probably one of the top during my trip through East Africa. This is more like an all inclusive stay than just a room for the night. We got dinner breakfast, and walking tours. Those tours were amazing we got to walk through the bush with the masai, learn about their way of life, the wildlife, plants, etc. The room is great. Traditional mud hut with modern amenities including power. Wifi was only in the common area but worked great. They danced for us when we got there. The service and friendless for this place was outstanding better than the "fancy" lodges we stayed. The food was delicious and fresh. Most importantly the money goes to help run the school in the back. It is located an hour from Arusha and can be arranged with to stay before or after your safari. They also offer transport. Please stay here!

United KingdomAll of the things you’d expect with a stay in a Boma is excellent. Food is included, and great. The rooms are comfortable and authentic. WiFi is good in common area. The location, although peaceful, is actually not so remote that it’s very hard to get to (took me 1 hour on a bus from Arusha). The location is stunningly beautiful, rivalling some of the national parks in the area. I stayed for three days, and left feeling part of the family. Steve is an incredible guide, taking me out around the village, teaching me to throw a spear, and showing me how to make a Maasai fire. All of the staff are from Makuyuni village, and are really keen to show guests Maasai culture. Sane is a brilliant and attentive host. Agnes and the rest of the ladies in the dining hall are wonderful. If you stay a couple of days, you’ll get the opportunity to dance into the night with the community which this place supports. The Boma helps fund a school next door which has over 400 children, including over 100 who stay in dormitories on-site from the wider region. You’ll be woken by their singing each morning, and perhaps get to see up close what your nightly fee helps cover - classrooms, books and teachers.

SpainNothing to point out, everything was great!
This was by far the best experience we had in Tanzania, staying here was our best choice. After a few days in Zanzibar and a safari in Serengeti we decided to stop over in this maasai village. At first we were not sure if the comfort would be in line with our standards(we usually stay in medium/high-end hotels), but in the end the experience was so incredible that it made up for it! When you get to the village you are welcomed through a local dance, they have many activities planned for you (you can go on a morning walk, help with the cattle, see how they prepare the local medicine). The best part of staying here is the beautiful underlying project that you will be financing, part of the proceeds will be used to finance a local school (that is just behind the accommodation, you can go visit it) and some other projects they are developing (a water dam, a henhouse, etc). Staff is extremely nice, very welcome and friendly. Stay here if you want to have a true Tanzanian experience and support the local population!

This place is simply awesome. It is held by an association that has a school for the kids of the region, so it is an NGO that promotes education. And they partially finances that school with that accommodations. It is held by Maasai people and as soon as you arrive, you are very welcomed. The place is nice, small Maasai hut, rudimentary, but works perfectly. The people are very nice, you can do walks in the bush with them, they teach you some stuffs about Maasai culture, they welcome you with a traditional dance, place is quiet, school is next door, making a nice ambiance. Food is really good and there is plenty of it. I can only recommend this place, it was not only a nice place to stay, but it was an excellent experience, thanks a lot. By the way, not too far from Tarangire NP, apparently there is a small entrance closer than the main one. We did not know about it first.

BelgiumWe have one regret: that we only stayed there one night. I would definitely stay longer if I went back.
We had an amazing experience staying here. The owner and the staff were wonderful: they were so friendly, charming and attentive and made us feel so much welcome. The lodges are very nice, located in a beautiful and peaceful environment and the food is very good. We had a very interesting tour of the village and the school which allowed us to connect with the Maasai community in an authentic way. The people danced for and with us in the evening and my sons accompanied the warriors in the morning. This was a wonderful immersive experience and at the same time the eco boma represents great projects that are worthwhile to support.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Maasai Eco Boma & Lodge, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The lodge is beautifully situated in a serene environment, offering stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised when the owner upgraded our room to a larger accommodation than we initially booked. This thoughtful gesture made our stay even more comfortable and enjoyable. The room was spacious, well-appointed, and exuded a cozy charm that made us feel right at home. The staff were friendly and attentive, always ready to help with anything we needed. The food was delicious, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The cultural experiences offered at the lodge truly enhanced our stay, allowing us to connect with the local Maasai community in a meaningful way. Overall, Maasai Eco Boma & Lodge exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and memorable getaway.

Everything. In the middle of Maasai boma, with nice Maasai (authentic!) welcome and the people who took great care of us. We had a short walk around the village, had a chai with a lady who invited us to her house, went to see the school, played volleyball with the children... Very peaceful, up on the hill, authentic Maasai experience (and I know Maasai quite well😁). Thanks to all Boma team, See you, Aljaž

AustraliaNothing not to like … but be realistic about facilities - this is a Maasai Boma not a 5 star hotel … and the cultural experience is so much better for it
The vibe was so friendly, welcoming and very genuine. Such an amazing set up supporting the school and such a cool place to stay. They are building a cultural centre which will be finished in 2 weeks and has stunning sunset views out across the land. Good food, clean rooms, comfortable beds with good mosquito nets. Great Maasai amazing dancing - and you will dancing too!! We had a really fun night!! Well signposted and easy to find if you are self driving
