Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

It was difficult to open the gate due to vegetation growing on the fence. A little pruning would be helpful.

The area the house is located in is a little sketchy and the mattresses were way too soft
Nice host that provided everything we could ask for, very good value and very spacious All-around it was a very pleasant stay and we will come again if we ever go back to Hawaii 🙂

The place is lovely and spacious for at least 4 people to stay. It has all kinds of amenities even including purified drinking water and laundry detergent packets. Moreover, we left a power adapter at check out. The management helped us to find it and left it at the gate for us to pick it up.

The location was ideal. We loved that so much was provided: coffee, water, soap pods for laundry, beach towels. It was also quiet and so very clean. We will definitely recommend it to others.

There is no air conditioning but the nights are cool when we went in early September and the ceiling fans were sufficient.
It is about 15-20 away from the park, quiet, clean, and the owner was very thoughtful about the amenities. There were even sippy cups if your party included a toddler. We were able to sign in to our own account for streaming. Wi-Fi is good. Water dispenser is provided.

The house was fully equipped and had everything we needed. The instructions were clear and concise. The house was spotless and the beds were comfortable. The property was near Volcano National Park and not to far from Hilo and the nearby attractions. In other words, the house served as a base for our excursions.

it’s in the back of an old subdivision and it’s not easy to find the first time or two. But the subdivision is located between Hilo and Volcano National Park and it works out well if those are the two places you’re interesting in seeing. Clay lives next door and is a super guy, very hospitable.
Clean, spotless, and comfortable. it’s also very quiet.

The smoke alarm would go off when stir frying. It would only go off for a few seconds though.

There was no dishwasher...sign said not to drink the tap water . water in kitchen sink did not get too hot...a little nervous about getting my dishes sanitized by hand with just soap.and luke warm water.
It was a real house versus a hotel room. Full kitchen to cook with to save $. Beds were amazingly comfortable. Everything was clean ...modern and really top rate. The bottled water was amazing.

The location was great for a visit to the Volcano National Park. Very convenient we really enjoyed our stay. Very clean. Lots of little extras. Washer and dryer were very handy to have.

Water pressure towards the end of the week was very low. But we managed.
Very well kept house. Landlord lives next door and was very accommodating. Had drinking water and soap, shampoo, even laundry soap was provided!!! Outstanding experience!

kitchen not highly equipped: only three sets of normal plates ( more plastic plates though), pans scratched / overused, no salt, only capsule-type coffee machine with one coffee capsule per person per day portioned out, no cheese grater.

Neighbors roosters needs a bullet.
Coffee and water supplied by property owner, Thank You. Super clean and comfortable living space. Property owner was very pleasant and attentive.

Wasn’t a big issue but would love to recommend have a few movies for kids.
Love that it’s a private home with a lovely yard. The full kitchen and washer and dryer were such a huge help with a family in Hawaii. Very clean and Clay was very hospitable. Will definitely be recommending to friends.
