Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe noise from the street was loud, they could invest in sound proof windows.
the staff were exceptional and could not do enough to make our stay pleasant. The rooms were enormous and plenty of space for a family of four. The location was right in the heart of Union Square, so plenty of places to get food.

We had a lovely suite on the 8th floor with a kitchen which was really useful. It’s an older looking hotel but it does the job. Not in a particularly safe area and would not recommend walking around at night. Nowhere to park the car so they offer a valet service where the car is picked up / collected from outside the front. Their continental breakfast is very minimalistic, but fills the spot. Would recommend they provide milk. Beds very comfortable. Staff really lovely. Lift very slow. In need of renovation generally but it’s comfortable and central location.

United StatesThe location is in the Tenderloin of the city. We know this and we stay here despite the loud noises at night, the unhoused population surrounding the property. That said, we have never felt unsafe in San Francisco. Everyone is always kind and helpful and doing the best they can. We love the city and the Beresford is the best place to stay hands down!
We love the Beresford! The charming historic vibe is what we love. The staff is great, the rooms are spacious, and it feels like a journey back in time.

United StatesThe location is right by the street, so parking is horrible with expensive valet being the only real option, and the sounds of the crazy city will keep you up late and up early. Bed and pillows aren’t very comfortable
Loved the older charm and the staff was very nice.

United StatesParking with valet super expensive, very noisy at night time (downtown is like that anyways), breakfast was poor (mainly sweet snacks), old facility (specially noticed in the bathroom)
Central location, big room with accommodations for family stay (plates, silverware, fridge, kitchen, table and chairs), big spaces

United KingdomNothing really. Be prepared that it is a noisy city and being on a corner of 2 streets you get noise from both sides.
Breakfast is pretty basic but was fine. Had to wait one day for 10 mins for the empty coffee urn to be replaced. Location was excellent. Room was spacious and well furnished. We had the one bedroom suite with kitchen and pull down bed in living room. Location is good - only a 5 min walk to Union Square or 25 mins to Painted Ladies.

ItalyHonestly, I do not have any complaints. I come here every year and I know what to expect. They have never disappointed me so far - quite the opposite. If I would not need to stay every evening in the San Francisco city center for a prolonged time like I typically need to (e.g., more than 5 days) I would be probably better off staying outside in some motel and commute with BART or a rental car, because prices in the city center are crazy. If you absolutely need to stay in the center for a long time, this is one of the few decent alternatives left.
It is located in a relatively okay neighbourhood where at least you don’t get the impression of being at risk of being stabbed after every corner. It has nice amenities and an okay price, especially if compared to the many alternatives. It is one of the few hotels left in center San Francisco which is in the middle between up-class 1000 dollars/day stays and shabby squatting-with-cockroach, paper-walls rooms. I hope it survives until I get to go to my yearly security conference…

United StatesOther than the room, the hotel is a bit worn and the elevator dim.
The staff were terrific and the suite for myself and two adult kids was spacious and clean. The bathroom was large and included a Jacuzzi tub and bidet. There was also a fully equipped kitchen The living room had a queen size Murphy bed which was much better than sofa beds.

United StatesThis is me being picky, but the elevator was a bit dark and I know that San Francisco is typically a cooler place, but my family are such hot sleepers so even though the fans helped in the room, we’ve become accustomed to having AC, which this hotel didn’t have. Like I said though, I’m just being spoiled and picky
The staff The amenities (there was continental breakfast and a wine/cheese hour) The location was perfect The hotel was clean The decor was beautiful

United StatesIt was a bit run down. The hotel is in need of an update. You could see all the wear and tear on the building. Also the surrounding area was not great. I know the hotel can’t do much about that, but I would not want to walk around the neighborhood late at night.
Staff was really nice. The beds were comfortable and the room was pretty big.

United StatesThere aren’t any grab bars in the tub area. As a senior they are very important. I felt unsafe getting in & out of the tub. Plain non- fat yogurt would have been good at breakfast.

AustraliaThe taps were a bit tricky, as the bath and basins taps turned in different directions, but was easy to accommodate after a day. Kitchen items were basic, but enough to make a coffee and eat in takeaway :-)
The continental breakfast and afternoon happy hour were a real bonus. Got to meet some lovely people and exchange sightseeing tips. The hotel is a little dated, but has charm. The rooms are large and the beds are comfortable. Would recommend unless you're a purist 5 star posh traveller.
