A bit impersonal. There was a high-pitched alarm going off in a room on our floor early one morning which could be heard across the entire floor. We called down to the front desk but it was never resolved.

Very clean, super central location, beautiful room.

Rooms are catered for men. My room had no extra mirrors other than the bathroom. Didn’t like how the water leaked out of the shower creating puddles. Also I didn’t like how the refrigerator didn’t cool and it was used for storage and hot drinks are stored for people to drink.

How close it was to everything.

The fridge didn’t work: we called the front desk to request an engineer and were told that it wasn’t actually a fridge! 🤷‍♀️This was found to be completely untrue when we asked for milk and ice to be brought up and the person who delivered it said that of course it was a fridge and that it should be working. Given the extremely hot weather, this was very inconvenient. Our half bottle of white wine (which we had to cool for an hour in the ice bucket on our first evening) was not replenished by housekeeping the next day and when we asked for a replacement (early) evening, we were told that there were no housekeeping staff on duty. It never was replaced. The lounge area downstairs was very cold and draughty and the menu extremely limited for food. It was impossible to get a table at Cindy’s rooftop bistro even though I tried to reserve one online and through Reception several weeks in advance. The queues were enormous every day.

The junior suite was spacious and comfortable and the building has a pleasant art deco feel. The location was convenient for the finish line of the half-marathon, in which our son was running, which was the main reason for choosing it.

Ok this is a minor thing, but given that we stayed over Xmas, I asked for two robes in our room upon arrival (something they normally do anyways I think). We just wanted to be really cozy for Xmas! When we got in, I noticed there was only one robe. I texted room service (love that function by the way) and asked if they could bring another robe or if I could pick one up from the front desk. They said they were happy to bring but they never brought it. There also isn't a lot of room to put your stuff away and because we stayed for 4 days, I would have liked that. It's just like so expensive, so I feel validated in being picky about these things. To make it worth the price it has to have some in-room frills otherwise you are mostly paying for a fancy lobby and games room. I also found I could hear the kids in the next room.

We stayed over Christmas and it was really cozy. The building is incredible and the games room is really fun. I love the aesthetic design choices in the rooms. Although not always the most practical, it was super pretty. You have to spend time in the lobby and eat at Cindys - both were incredible. And be sure to take advantage of your complimentary welcome beverage in the lobby! Staff did not tell us upon arrival, but I asked after seeing other reviews mention it, so be sure to ask (and tip your bartender). It was pet-friendly which was great for us, but it is a tricky place to have a dog if they are not used to the hustle and bustle (would not recommend if your dog is reactive).

We reserved by the pictures a room that looked way bigger than what has been given to us in the check-in, that was unpleasant, also the bed didn't seem to be Queen size, upon reviewing this with the staff they just shrugged and said that it was the same room booked, it felt stuffed overall for the small bedroom. Would be better to be more accurate given the same room as the pictures shown when someone makes a reservation. Didn't feel that the staff was interested even in seeing the reservation made using the pictures, overall that was the only thing that felt uncomfortable.

The place is beautiful, with great options nearby, also inside of the Hotel you have various options of meals and things to do, the place overall is very iconic, the location is great, in the same street on the side you have the bus stop and the street behind a train station which facilitates moving around the city, overall you can see all the best places from this hotel by a 30min walk top.

The temperature of the room. We got in and it was hot, so we put the thermostat on the cool setting. We got back from a quick nightcap to a room that was 83 degrees. We contacted the front desk for a fan because there was no way to cool down the room. The housekeeping/maintenance man helped us by getting us a fan. The fan he brought was broken (not his fault) and in the meantime he set the thermostat to cool while getting another fan. I. The five minutes that he was gone to get another fan the temperature in the room rose. When he came back with a working fan and we informed him of the temperature increase he offered to contact engineering for us. It was 1:30 AM so we opted for the tower fan he brought because we didn’t want to stay up any later after traveling all day. Fast forward to check out and we mentioned how the AC didn’t work. Turns out that there is no AC in the rooms because it’s an older building and that you should have just turned the heat off all together. If there’s a thermostat with a “cool” setting and no sign saying that there is no AC, how would you know any of this? The hotel is lovely but really there should be at least a sign in the room next to the thermostat or have someone say something after texting about how hot it was and needing a fan. It also doesn’t make sense how there was definitely cold air flowing in the hallways (which we opened the door in attempt to cool the room down). Maybe we got the lemon of a room but if there are rooms available in the summer at the hotel I don’t know how they would not have cool air in them.

Great location and an amazing building to be in.

Everything was wonderful except...On Monday at 6am, we were awaken from loud pounding coming from above us. It continued on and off (mostly on) until 8:30am. We had planned sleep a bit later, but could not. Our room phone did not operate, we tried several times on 2 phones to contact staff, was either cut off or redirected to the same long message where no one answered.

Our room had a fantastic view of Michigan Ave./Chicago attractions. Hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays, fun crowd at their restaurants and bars.

Bathroom. Wash basin plug didn't work so water quickly drained from the basin which makes shaving difficult. This was largely fixed once I brought it to the attention of management. Shower does not have a low retaining wall on the floor and the shower curtain is 5-6 inches (125-150mm) above the floor level so you get a tidal wave of water across the bathroom floor when you shower and use up most of your daily towel allocation moping the water up. The shower control unit is very ancient - the marked H and C settings were irrelevant - and it took a couple of days to find the right settings. Dining room is very gloomy and poorly lit for breakfast

    Location is superb

While check-in and front desk were professional, hospitable, and friendly; we didn't quite feel that same welcome and service from the wait staff, bar staff, or host/hostesses. For some reason, multiple individuals throughout the staff from different venues seemed tired, not personable, just here to do a job and seemed more thrilled to just finish the task they had with you, rather than being excited and happy that you were here. It was very weird! We actually dined at three of their spaces (Cherry Circle Room, the Drawing Room, got drinks at the Game Room Bar, and had breakfast at Cindy's), and Cindy's (hostess was just there to do her job) wait staff (our server and the helpful support team) seemed to be the only real humans (like everyone else were robots??) that smiled and offered a personable touch. Is it just that they're so busy and always working? I feel like when I used to serve, I still served with a smile :D

This is not my first time at CAA, and the location, facilities, and amenities of the is PHENOMENAL and what brought us back. Love having all the options for activities, great food, the rooftop bar and restaurant, as well as the fact that you are so conveniently located smack in the middle of all the action!! It was easy to go out, walk around, do something, and then come back to the hotel for a break. We really appreciated that! Getting to and from the airport (MDW) and around the city was super easy with the L train right there. I've stayed in a King room before, but this time we stayed in a double. The room had windows which faced an interior courtyard, so we didn't really have a view, but we could see the sky and sunlight; the room was super quiet and I had very restful sleeps. If you're looking in this area, are traveling with kids (small humans or adults), and want to be 'wow-ed' by the history and tasteful interior, I would highly recommend!

It would have been good to have some sheer under curtains which could be drawn across separate to the thick curtains due to how close the buildings are to each other, but that's a tiny thing!

The staff were wonderful and my room was absolutely gorgeous. I loved all the little details (including the dressing gown) which highlighted the historic elements of the building.

Too many people from outside ( not guests,) inside the hotel for the rooftop bar, game room etc-often very crowded. Room nothing like what was depicted on Booking.com-one window, very dark room, no view or light. Bathroom not particularly well designed-the bathtub very high and hard to get in and out of, slippery when taking a shower-nearly fell, shower controls did not work easily. toilet very close to the swing of the door, not enough hooks or places to put things while changing/ showering.... Night concierge not particularly well informed or able to give restaurant recommendations ( he googled restaurants and did not even know that the price range given for the restaurant was not an entry charge. Not a good value for the amount being charged for the stay. It would be better to stay somewhere else and come here for a drink.

Only thing- there seemed to be a discrepancy from what the front desk explained regarding the complementary drink voucher vs the bar staff at Cherry Circle Room. I had understood it was redeemable at either bar, however bar staff said it was for the other bar, but would still honor it there.

I always love this hotel. The atmosphere of the study is unmatched, the Cherry Circle Room feels like a hidden gem- and probably one of my favorite spots in the city.
