Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Only had 3 cushions instead of 4 on the bed. Downstairs restaurant clientele can be very noisy at night

The location seemed very remote. There were not many other attractions in the immediate area.

The heating system sounded like a small plane taking off every time it ran. Made it tough to fall asleep with the noise.
It was close to where I needed to be. Room was clean and shower supplies were good.

The online check in didn’t work well for us. We didn’t receive our confirmation on the day and without it you don’t get the code and can’t access the room. Thank goodness there was a fabulous staff member just finishing a shift so when I rang she was still around and could help us out.
Really handy stop for our trip. Room was clean and comfortable and perfect for an overnight stay. The restaurant attached was great, food was really nice. Staff were really helpful when we had issues with the online check in process.

Faceless check in/out required a lot of emails and steps. Never saw a hotel employee. Booking.com listed price, price actually charged and price shown on Hi-Ho confirmation were all different.

Did not like the fact that you can’t take a hot shower. After a really long day, a hot shower is what you look forward too

No elevator. I am handicapped and had to climb stairs with great difficulty. Was told I had handicap room (which I presume would be first floor). In addition, the beds were very high and the mattress kept slipping off the bottom piece.

It was fine. So no complaints.
I really liked to location because of the part of Connecticut I wanted to see. So for sure I liked it and would book there again. I am still getting used to the no-human interaction. All info including checking in was done by email and no person was accessed at the hotel.

The pillows were wayyy too soft for my comfort. The house keeper knocked on our door one day and barely gave us time to even acknowledge she was there before she tried to open the door (that was not cool). Someone also checked in on our room while we were out another day and did not make sure the door was closed behind him/her, so we came back to our room with the door slightly open. We also noticed the room next to ours door was also not shut all the way. Maybe the carpeting can be lowered a little so the door swings shut behind you or a note can be placed inside the door to inform guests that the door has to be pulled shut. Over the weekend, parking is a hassle as the Barcelona Restaurant attracts a lot of guests, luckily for us both night we went out and came back, someone was just driving out so we pulled up after the driver to get a parking spot
The room size was really good and the room looked neat and clean. Location was convenient for us and was in close distance to everything that we needed. I liked the ease of the check in and check out process. I like the Barcelona Restaurant and the food was really good.

There is no front desk so you do need a smart phone with good cell phone service to check in. No idea we had to also check out via a link via email. No mini fridge and the tray for the coffee looked very old/chipped and needed to be replaced. I'm guessing the Nespresso machine was just for decoration because there were no instructions and didn't look like it had been used in years.
Always stay at the Hi-Ho when we visit our friends in Easton (a neighboring town). Room was very clean, bed was comfy and decor is very cute. Hotel is right next to a decent tapas restaurant. Plenty of free parking spaces. No interaction with a front desk which some might consider good (e.g. no lines, no keys). Very quiet during our Saturday night stay. Very close to good apple picking.
