Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The staff is very friendly. check-in was fast. the guest living next to my room is pretty loud at night. Overall I am most satisfied with the cleanliness.

We didn't care for the shower from above, which has 150 holes (I counted), and therefore has weak pressure.
Lots of places to buy food nearby in walking distance! Great bus links and bicycle routes on the doorstep. Quiet rooms with no disturbances.

Exterior a bit tired.
The room was far nicer than I expected from the exterior which is in need of a refresh. Apparently redecorated fairly recently by someone with good taste. Nice large shower stall which one doesn't always get in an older building. Good wifi.

I didn't like the lighting in the room - it felt very cold and kind of dark. I also think they should have an instruction sheet for the little heater unit on the wall. I ended up searching for the unit's user manual online to find out how to turn it on. It did heat up the room though. The bathroom was very cold and there was no heat or a fan in the bathroom for aeration, but there was a window. I was visiting Berkeley in the winter and it was raining every day, so I wasn't able to keep the bathroom window open. State Law no longer allows the inn to put soap, shampoo or conditioner in the room, so if you need any of those supplies you have to ask the front desk. There is no breakfast service. Also, it's close to the train station so you can hear the train horns very often and late into the evening.
I liked that they had a mini fridge and microwave in the room. That saved me money by allowing me to store and heat up my leftovers. There was also a desk and a chair which was convenient. They provided an extra pillow and a blanket for cold nights. The room and bathroom were clean enough. There was also a fan (no a/c), an iron and ironing board, and a hairdryer. I didn't notice if there was a vending or ice machine and didn't go looking for them, but there was an ice bucket in the room. Upon entering my room, I got a call from the front desk to make sure everything was okay with the room. It was nice that someone called to check in on me. I liked that it was close to some good restaurants and within walking distance to the Marina, which has beautiful views of San Fran from across the bay! There was plenty of free parking, which was also fantastic since I traveled by car. I felt safe enough at the inn and in the surrounding area.

Well, the heaters are sort of funky, but they will heat the room.
This old motel is renovated and adequate for travelers on a budget. Nice location and comfy beds. I have stayed here three times in the past. I'd do it again.

It was difficult to use the TV. It did not respond to remote control and I had to use the buttons on the cable TV receiver box to navigate. Also, the heater was not intuitive to use.
The property was clean and in a good location.

The decor is a bit dated but the room was very clean (and frankly, that is more important).
Super friendly staff. Easy onsite parking. The room was clean and comfortable. Located on University Ave, the Marina Inn is in close proximity to the campus, BART and/or freeway. Great value.

Wifi was weak.
It was quiet and clean. Appliances were all in great working order. Staff was pleasant and very helpful. Free parking was a must and it helped make things less stressful knowing our car was in a safe place.

It needs a new facade.
