Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The only improvement I can think of would be the addition of ice
The property was very well-maintained. It had great visual appeal and everything I needed. Jerry was extremely helpful and really made me feel welcome.

I can’t think of anything! We had a great stay!
Staff was very kind and friendly. Our room was very pleasant, neat , toddy and clean. Beds were very comfortable. We felt safe. We walked downtown for dinner! We will definitely stay again!

The beds on my second stay were not as comfortable as the first room. This trip I was in a room closest to the street and couldn't leave any windows open because of the noise. The sulfur smell others have mentioned has been in both rooms and is the most off putting part of staying here. Everything else is easily manageable.
It's a great value and a great location. I've stayed here twice. The owner is very nice and check-in is a breeze. The room is very clean.

The ac was loud. I wanted to keep it on the energy saving option but had to set it to regular as the unit turning off and on every several minutes was noisy.
The location was excellent. My husband and I are in our 60s and we're walkers. It was a straight walk into downtown SLO (maybe a mile?). And a few blocks uphill from a wonderful art store. The owner of the hotel is very nice and welcoming. While breakfast isn't included, the price point for the area is very reasonable and the hotel has a mini fridge and micro so we were all set. Also, it seems like the hotel has just undergone a renovation and everything in our room looked fresh and modern. The only thing that looked old was the hotel sign overhead. Lol. We would definitely stay there again.

Everything was great – no complaints. Would definitely stay here again! My go-to hotel in San Luis Obispo.
The room was very clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed for my stay which included working at the desk for several hours each day. I asked for early check-in and was very happy to be allowed to check in three hours early for no charge! The staff was very helpful and communicative.

Not a lot to be done about this but my room on the first floor got a lot of noise (as in footsteps) from the room above. Next time I'd probably opt for second story. Pillows could use an upgrade.
Cute little place, very reasonably priced, clean and in a convenient location. It's not the most luxurious and the rooms are small, but for my purposes (coming in late at night on the Amtrak Surfliner) it was great. Front desk is not on duty 24 hours but Jerry was very responsive and communicated promptly.

There was a sulfurous smell coming from the sink drainage, so bad that we had to cover it during the night. Some furniture are tired, chipped.
Simple and very comfortable. Good price for the value, reception desk wonderful and very helpful. Extremely clean and good location, 10 minutes walk to downtown, restaurants and shops. Quiet!
