Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaThe first problem we encountered was that we found the door to be unlocked when we came. There was a lock box on the door which we hoped to be able to access a key, but the code we had did not work. We planned to leave for the evening, so we literally could not lock the door when we left. A few hours into our evening. I received a call from the police saying that they were investigating a possible break in. Apparently another tenant tried to check in to the house a half hour after we left and found the house with all of our things inside. They in in turn called the property manager, who then called the police. After talking to me, the police concluded that this was a case of double booking, and not their concern since no crime was committed. They put me in touch with the property manager before we hung up who then told me that the site in which we booked was not an authorized site and that bookings could only go through them. Furthermore, she said that our one night booking was not something they did as they only do longer stays. I gave her the confirmation number that I had received from the online booking and showed her that we had paid and been charged for the rental. By the time this was going on, it was close to 11pm. I asked her what should be done at this point. The property manager informed me that the other tenant had already gone back into town and had rented a hotel instead and had been refunded their money. I asked if we needed to leave (which I would have had a problem with) or could we stay. She replied she would get back to me after talking with the owner. Needless to say, we never received a call back that night even after staying up until 1:30am. We packed up in the morning, cleaned up as much as we could and left by 8am the next morning. If you read other reviews of this place, you'll see a pattern of this type of bizarre situations that have been occurring in the past year or so at this property. Renter beware!!!!
The house itself looked to be well kept and was clean upon our arrival. The furniture was a little dated, but not a concern of all. We found that the outlets in the bathroom did not work, but not a deal breaker either. The house was in a nice neighborhood as well.

United States of AmericaYour website had a 99-7729 Pukeawe Place address and pictures of that location so we assumed we were renting this "Volcano Cottage." We drove half way to that location after deciding to contact the owner to verify the location. She gave us a different address which was located on Ruby Street. She told us the "Volcano Cottage" was previously sold. Your website indicated a 2 bedroom, 2 bath cottage. This Anuhea (not sure of correct name) cottage did have 2 bedrooms and 2 baths; however, one bathroom was located outside of the house in the garage which was very inconvenient and hardly used. This was very disappointing. Also, the microwave did not work so we couldn't reheat our take-out orders and coffee. Although the owner was very gracious, I feel we were misled as far as what we had made reservations for.
The location was very serene and relaxing. Appreciated the heated blankets and all amenities.

United States of AmericaNothing. The property owner, Country Goose, moved us to another property upon checking in. The instructions were to meet them at the property, but when we arrived there was another family staying at the property for which we had a confirmation. We had previously called the property owner earlier in the day and were told everything was ok. When we arrived at the property and there was another family there, we called the owner and we’re told we needed to come by the office for a new assignment and have us directions to the office. At the office we were told they had no record of our reservation and asked for our names. We were given a new property assignment that was 2/3 the size of the property reserved and confirmed and not comparable. It had no dishwasher and other amenities we had reserved at the first property. They had nothing else available. At check out, we were told again there was no record of our reservation, even though we had a confirmation with the owner’s number and saw our name written on their paper calendar schedule and highlighted in yellow. There was dishonesty somewhere.

United States of AmericaRuby Rd property was not completely clean, not certainly what we had reserved. The 2nd bathroom was in the garage, the internet was spotty, and we were so confused and upset by her antics. We stayed there June 1 for one night, paid her the next morning, but do not believe that she is telling the entire truth. Is Booking.com allowing her to continue these scams or bit & switch? double booking? We got up and got out of there as quickly as possible. An incredibly bizarre and uncomfortable situation!
Nothing went well. When we contacted the owner Joan of Volcano Cottage re: keys, she insisted that she no longer owned this property. There was a lock box on front door, but clearly another group was already staying there. She told us to come to her house, tried to sell us on a 2nd property. She allowed us to go to the 2nd property with a key without asking for ID or credit card. Although she insisted she had NEVER heard of us, we left her home & went to Ruby Rd. property. What!

United States of AmericaWhat we didn't like was that we received no instructions prior to our arrival that we would need to call the owner and pick up the keys at their house. It wasn't far from the property however, it would have been good to have the instructions prior to arrival as our cell service was spotty. Also, we had rented Volcano Cottage but, when we arrived we were told that property had been sold and we would be put up in another house a couple streets away from the original, Pukeawe Place. They did honor our original price for the 2 bedroom. Finally, I mistakenly left my crystal stud earrings on the nightstand and haven't heard from them to see if I would like them returned. As stated, I had spotty cell service while in Hawaii which made things difficult for me to contact them to let them know I left them behind.
The location was really good as we were interested in visiting Volcanos National Park. The house was comfortable and was very well stocked. We liked the fact that there were 2 bedrooms and full bath on one side of the house and 1 bedroom en suite on the other side. The owner(s) were very pleasant and helpful.

United States of AmericaIssue with the kitchen sink faucet leaking water onto the kitchen counter. Plumber came to replace the faucet the day we left.
Close to Volcano Village, Volcano National Park and the winery. Quiet, safe neighborhood. Comfortable for two couples with two bedrooms and two baths.
