We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaEverything was great.
This beautiful safari lodge was everything it promised. The staff were super friendly and engaging, the accommodation was extremely clean and comfortable, and the food and drinks were plentiful and delicious. The game drives were among the best I have experienced, with sighting of all the Big 5 over 3 days, some animals multiple times.

We loved everything about our three night stay at this this lodge: The unique and rustic style of the architecture. The location of the lodge amongst huge trees and next to a watering hole where we saw giraffe, hyena, even lions (yes it is true) came to drink. The meals which were of a consistently high standard. The attentive, hospitable staff. The early morning and late afternoon game drives with knowledgeable guide Andrew. See photos of some of our sightings… The spacious room with porch overlooking the bush. Quality bedding.

New ZealandOur stay was absolutely incredible, from the beautiful lodge itself to the exceptional staff, delicious food and drinks, and unforgettable twice-daily game drives! The food itself was some of the best food we have ever tasted, huge shout out to the Chef for going the extra mile for us! Suitboy our game driver is an absolute legend! He is extremely knowledgeable and takes into account his guests to ensure we have the best experience possible! He is extremely kind and caring and we felt very safe with him! Not only did we see the Big Five on our game drives, but we were also treated to daily sightings right from the terrace during breakfast, lunch, and dinner - elephants, impala, buffalo, hyenas, and more regularly visited the watering hole in front of the lodge. It was like having a front-row seat to the wild at all times! All the staff were amazing, but a special shoutout to Morgan and Given for their outstanding service, they truly stood out! We honestly can’t recommend this experience highly enough. We left with full bellies and even fuller hearts!

United StatesIt’s a small property with only six huts and one small pool. The Wi-Fi is only limited to the common area and there is no television. This was problematic because the first tour is from six am until nine am and the second tour is from four pm until seven pm so unless you want to pay for extra massages, or swim in the shallow pool, there is nothing to do. I cannot imagine what it is like in the summer months when it is hot. The shower is outside, which is scary because the property is not fenced in and wild animals roam freely. I wore swimming clothes when showering for the first night, but then found it liberating in showering outside knowing that snakes and spiders could make their way into the shower area.
Hamilton, Imbali and Hoyo-Hoyo Lodge all use the same guide company so they share information whenever they find a special animal. They had one exceptional chef who served inspired gourmet food like prepared ostrich and tomahawk steaks with puree. On other days the food was average. On one day, one cook gave us 1 soggy croissant, one yogurt, 1 muffin and pieces of fruit for breakfast. Every Wednesday and Saturday they have BBQ, which was delicious.

AustraliaWe had an incredible honeymoon experience at Hoyo Hoyo! The staff were so welcoming, and the Safari drivers were awesome. We saw the Big 5 within a single day! They even catered for my husband who is a Vegetarian. We spent hours by the watering hole watching the animals from the comfort of the lodge. It's truly an incredible experience, 100% would recommend!

United KingdomWe loved our stay at Hoyo Hoyo. We spent 4 nights there as part of our honeymoon and it was the best part of our 3 week trip. The lodge is great, authentic and charming and the staff are incredibly welcoming and make you feel right at home. We felt so well looked after throughout our stay and the food prepared for every meal was amazing. Elephants roaming the lodge grounds and playing in the watering hole, visible from the outdoor dining area was also a massive highlight. The game drives were fantastic and our guide was fun, experienced and dedicated to ensuring we saw all the animals we wanted to see. Hoyo Hoyo provided a beautiful, peaceful and homely way to explore Kruger. Could not recommend enough! Thanks all at Hoyo Hoyo!

United KingdomThere is no internet in the rooms but we actually preferred that and it is well advertised in advance. You can properly disconnect. There is great WiFi in the the main part of the lodge.
Everything was excellent: the staff, the food, the rooms, the game drives, the locations. It was an outstanding stay. We got to see so many rare animals: 4 of the big 5 (everything except leopard but we only stayed for 2 nights so no doubt we would’ve seen one if we stayed a bit longer), giraffes, warthogs, empalas, hippos, hyenas, African wild dogs, wildebeests. The food did not disappoint once and was great throughout our stay. The staff are lovely and provide exceptional service. Thank you to all the staff. They are brilliant.

United KingdomGiven the price for the stay, I would expect some more attention to detail and some renovation at the property. The shower head was broken and the door outside didn’t open or close without fear of breaking it. It seemed at times that communication between staff was lacking, with Booking.com messages actually going to their sister site nearby. We heard from the guide that a Leopard had walked through the camp at night, the option to have them wake us for particularly special sightings would be good (when safe!)
We had an amazing time at Hoyo Hoyo for a 3 night safari trip as part of our honeymoon. The game drives were good and the room had a great view. The food is definitely a highlight, having had excellent service and variety throughout - the choices given at each meal were superb and all of the meat was incredible. We did see the big 5 even if 2 of the sightings were brief, the amount of elephants in the park is a big positive!

NetherlandsWe had a great time in Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge. It was the highlight of our stay in South Africa. Compliments to our guide Mark. He gave us a lot of interesting information during our game drives. We had great service and food in the lodge. First day safari and dinner were impeccable and we felt if we were in a Michelin star restaurant. So very delicious. The staff was lovely. Next day the braai was a little disappointing. The chicken was undercooked. Just not the level as the day before. But the location with view on elephants and other wildlife is memorable for life.

AustraliaOnly minor, but we didn't have lighting in the bathroom. They did however provide some plug-in lamps we could use. And, I should have stayed an extra night....
From the moment we arrived until the moment we departed, our experience was nothing short of amazing. The staff were not only friendly but also incredibly attentive, ensuring that every detail was taken care of. Our guide for the safari drives, Mark, was exceptional, sharing his extensive knowledge and passion for the wildlife. All those thoughtful touches truly made it a memorable experience that we will cherish for years to come.

South AfricaLEAVING - I simply didn't want to pack up and leave. Really enjoyed it. Something that did bother me (and that is all around the Kruger Park sites) is that although you pay a huge premium enjoying the stay in these camps - is that you constantly feel that you owe waiters money for their services. I do understand tipping the rangers for amazing work and help but waiters will constantly remind you it is their last day .... and mmm you owe them a huge tip. Not nice.
This is one of the best kept secrets that i really didn't want to share with others lol .... apologies. The ultimate adventure when it comes to experiencing nature while being pampered and treated like a king at the same time. Great staff with tremendous service. Experiencing the big five or simply sitting at a campfire watching wildlife drinking at a waterhole. What impressed me was the way water was preserved and used to provide drinking water for animals .... ! The whole experience was five stars.
