Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomIf you have a bed on the front of the building it will be noisy all night as there are many noisy bars and restaurants in the area. It’s a basic hostel and if that’s your thing it’ll be great.
Beautiful traditional old building Wrap around communal balcony Plenty of hot water for showers I had a singe room and always felt safe The staff were friendly and welcoming About 40 minutes walk from the V&A

Meeting new people and the hospitality. Accommodating each other and friendly The location is noisy at night, but one can live with it - buzzing of people and the safety guards in the street makes one move freely. Shops and restaurants are plentiful

South AfricaThe cleaning staff was abit rude and the other lady didn’t want me store my bags in the luggage room even though I had previously done so. Tried explaining that I’m gonna leave later but she wasn’t having it. They also didn’t change the sheets daily

South AfricaThe kitchen space was small, leading to some inconveniences when one just needs to prep a meal, especially in the morning. And the fridge was just so full it wouldn't even close properly. You can't keep items with softer plastic material like your yogurts or butter, they'll just get squashed and spill all over. Another thing; Mixing up males and females to share the same rooms, maybe that's not a thing to be shunned upon but I thought it was absolute madness. Culture shock for me, I guess?
Staff treats the visitors very well. And that is something golden, goes a long way. Although I booked for a shared dorm room, I didn't feel like my privacy and or safety was ever compromised.

NetherlandsI stayed in the female only dorm and I found that the people were quite unproblematic and friendly. The room does get extremely hot - even with the fans. I also felt that the mattress was quite uncomfortable. Another con is you can’t charge your devices from the top bunk. Please also be cautious of the surrounding area if you are a woman: some men would try to follow me back in. There are also a lot of stairs so it’s not a place for people with any physical impediments or difficulties moving around - but it also is an old building and most of them weren’t built to be disability-friendly.
I love that this is an old and historic building. Lovely to sit and observe Long Street. The location is central and the staff were genuinely lovely and part of the reason I decided to stay. Great value for money.

CanadaThis hostel didn't have the typical vibe you'd expect to meet other travelers. There were great common areas but it seemed like most of the people we met lived there or something? Kind of a strange crew. GET A PRIVATE ROOM would be my advice. There seemed to be a lot of prostitution and homeless people outside which is typical for long street I guess. We stayed in after dark to avoid. But during the day we enjoyed the area.
The staff were great - super helpful and friendly. The location was vibrant right on long street which we enjoyed during the day for its many restaurants and cafes. The windows had definitely been sound proofed which was greatly appreciated at night so we could sleep. The kitchen was well equipped, and they offered free coffee in the morning.

Hospitality at it's best. Having climaxed my Epic road trip from Nairobi Kenya to Cape Town, then Urban Backpackers Hosted me on this day that Mark's my Birthday also, feels epic. Unfortunately I can't record much of my stay here because I have to respect other people privacy. I would have wished to document my stay here and have it on my YouTube channel.

GhanaThe beds could also have been better, i slept on a broken bed and nothing was done about it after few reports, i ended up with back pain, Also, knowing the furniture are made of woods, they are prone to insects, bedbugs are the order of the day and night there, some roommates are used to it, while’s others refused to complain to the staffs and rather lodged out to other backpacking companies, the company should do well with frequently spraying the place against bugs because people from different places visit and stat, some will bring, while others carry. There are smoking area, but all the balconies were full of smokers and there was no place to relax without a smoker/smokers polluting the environment.
Everyone was friendly, the staffs were very helpful and was quick to respond and resolve issues.
