Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

ItalyBreakfast buffet can be refilled more often, but the food is great!
We loved our stay at Welgelegen House. The staff is very helpful and kind, from Memory to the kitchen staff. The house itself is well maintained and it has a great style. The location is also very good, overall is quiet and safe (at least compared to the rest of Cape Town).

Te hospitality was outstanding. Prince and Memory were lively hosts and we almost felt part of a family by the time we left. They were so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good - perhaps things, especially place settings and the coffee machine, could have done with being reset/serviced more often, but the food was good - in particular the hot food cooked to order.

United KingdomFrom the moment we arrived we were told “welcome home” and every staff member was exceptional and couldn’t do enough to help. We were even upgraded to a larger room for two nights of our stay. The area was quiet and safe and we could easily get by car or uber to other parts of Cape Town. Amazing stay.

Perfect location, a close walk to Kloof street but tucked away so you did not hear all the noise / commotion. We only stayed one night which was too short. Breakfast was nice and the house is a beautifully renovated piece of history. For being a historic hotel, we were really surprised how quiet our room was. Memory (the host / manager) was amazing - funny, friendly and makes you want to come back. Give that girl a raise.

Exceptional! A hotel with a personalised touch. The staff were extremely attentive from the first second of our stay, offering helpful advice regarding tourist attractions and assisting with restaurant bookings. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff attended to the rooms at least twice a day. The hotel is tucked away in a residential area and feels safe. We would recommend this hotel to friends and family and would definately stay there again when Cape Town!

SwedenThe pool didn’t seem to be cleaned daily, and there was constantly a hose in it, which made it a bit difficult to use. That aspect could definitely be improved.
We absolutely loved our stay, and the staff was definitely the highlight. A special shout-out to Memory, who went above and beyond to make us feel at home—she truly made our visit unforgettable. The breakfast was also outstanding, and we enjoyed relaxing in the courtyard with a glass of wine.

United KingdomNothing at all. Some may be disappointed that the pool is tiny, but this is evident from the pictures. We were grateful not to have noisy pool lovers spoiling the peace & quiet of the outside area.
The welcome on arrival at this beautiful boutique hotel was exceptional with a warm, personal touch. We were shown straight to our room, despite it being 2 hours prior to official check-in time, which was much appreciated after an overnight flight from London. The bedrooms, lounges & breakfast room are all tastefully decorated & sumptuous. Staff were absolutely wonderful & the onsite Return Africa office is very useful for organizing tours & giving practical information about Cape Town, in general. The location is a quiet, pretty, affluent suburb with a busy restaurant strip only 5 mins walk away. You need go no further as there are so many to choose from. The backdrop to the hotel is the amazing Table Mountain & we could see it from every window in our room & balcony. Rooms are spotless, beds comfy & staff come in twice a day, to tidy the room then turn down the beds. The fresh coffee & tea making facilities in the room were a bonus. Breakfasts were delicious & a homemade cake was left out every afternoon to enjoy with tea. In the evening an honesty bar is set up. I'd love to return here & wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who wants to stay somewhere quiet, small, characterful & away from the hub of the centre. It's easy to walk into town & lovely to return to the tranquility of Welgelegen House after a day's sightseeing.
