Lots to do particularly if you want to scuba or snorkel.
Lots to do particularly if you want to scuba or snorkel. In my opinion it's more an adult destination as lots of bars and people openly smoke cannabis. Lots of mopeds racing around small streets. The food is great and value for money. If you enjoy travelling, take a boat taxi to other beaches or book a tour. There is plenty to do and see.

Travelling to Samui I was really disappointed with the snorkelling, luckily I had spare time at the end of the holiday where I hadn't booked & we took a 3 night trip to Koh Tao. It had the best beaches in Thailand in my opinion. Sairee beach had great restauarants, the Thai people were amazing (although this is the same wherever you go in Thailand). Getting around you really need a moped, which might put some people off.

A few days is nice here as it is a small island.
A few days is nice here as it is a small island. Great for diving and snorkling. However:
- The coral is dead unfortunately, the few turtles are harrassed by tourists and are not treated nicely, Shark bay is owned by a resort and they profit from the tourism to the sharks. I advice to stay away from this part.
- The island is not genuine Thai culture experience anymore but overrun by tourists unfortunately (March 2024). In the town there is not a spot without a scooter and party places. Weed places and stores everywhere and Western food. I would not recommend the town to people looking for culture, for genuine Thai experiences (except some restaurants) or for a quiet holiday if you stay close to town. Go look for accomodations far from the town centre and you will have an amazing time though (Jungle, freedom beach etc.)
- Scooters are for experienced people only, we saw too many crashes/falls and people with severe injuries. It is really not worth it to rent a scooter if you do not know how to drive uphill/mountains and on the left side. If you go for it, wear at least a helmet and your children too. So many people with babies? and little kids? without a helmet, like are you really risking that?
- Most of it you can just walk, walk or take a taxi if you are unknown with scooters

Our villa with own pool was the best.
Our villa with own pool was the best. If you dive and you are in your 20s you enjoy the place a lot. If you are older, it’s quickly seen.
Sairee beach area is not my place . Other parts of the island I did not see; difficult to go around.
I missed vegetables to eat on this island but fresh fruit shakes, I loved. Local food was cheap but delicious especially seafood.

Koh Tao isn't the biggest of islands, you can hire scooters but some of the island is different to access via scooter.
We stayed in Mae Haad and there are plenty of restaurants/bars to choose from some of them being beachfront.

The roads to many places are insanely steep.
The roads to many places are insanely steep. Two people on a rental motorbike could not make it up some hills. We are not heavy people and a couple times one had to get off and walk. Alternatively if you think your going to taxi everywhere bring a large stack of cash. 300-400 THB each way, everywhere you go and that''s an 8 min drive. Islands pretty small. Best to have a rental motorbike for each person but even that was to scary for my partner. Also this island is really all about diving and partying. Excellent if that's you jam.
Firstly, I’d like to say how nice and helpful the staff were. They picked us up from the pier and when leaving arranged a car for us, whenever we had problems with our scooter they helped us and they were extremely nice throughout our stay!
The room was great, bigger than what we originally had in mind, and very comfortable. just 3 minutes by scooter from Sairee beach, and we got it cleaned every day while we were gone exploring the island. We will definitely come back here again 😌 best stay I ever had.
We really enjoyed our stay at Island Dive Club. The location is excellent. It is a stone's throw away from Sairee Beach and less than a ten minute walk to the main nightlife area in Koh Tao. There are also lots of nice restaurants and massage parlours near the hotel. Our room was very spacious and the beds were super comfortable. They provided beach towels free of charge. There was a free shuttle back to the pier when we checked out too which we greatly appreciated.
First, I have to note that the location is key for this hotel. Waking up every morning to the most blissful view was just relaxing as the name of the hotel suggests. The rooms were exactly what you need not more; for the price, it was sufficient. This is not a 5 stat resort, but it's the best 3 stars we've visited.
The island is so small that a trip to the center took 8 minutes on the bike. The beach of the resort is peaceful and just beautiful.
A nice little hotel slightly away from the main area, but in a good way. Easy walk to the beach, busy night-life and great resturant. Mini mart on site which was handy, cheapest laundry I've had so far in Thailand and good. Hosts were really friendly and helpful. The room was big, if you need more toilet paper or new towels just ask at the mini mart. I liked that the hotel allowed the use of it's pool to teach local kids to swim.
The location was brilliant, close to everything and right on the beach. Beach front bar gives happy hour prices to guests at all times; said bar has a fire-show every night which we really enjoyed! Staff were really friendly at both hotel & beach club! Also if you need any help at all with tours, transport to other islands or taxis - wandee on site in tour office is amazing !!!
Fresh and spacious rooms in cool and unique design. Staff was very kind and helpful with everything.
Hotel is located on best possible site right on Sairee Beach with great restaurants everywhere.
Easy to rent a bike and get around the small island to visit the most beautiful places we have ever been to.
We extended our stay with one night due to all things above!
The Staff. The gentleman at the front desk had excellent English and was very knowledgeable about the island. He alway very helpful. The lady who cleaned our room was very friendly and went out of her way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We have encountered some excellent service in Thailand over the years and the staff at this hotel was the best so far.
Very nice hotel in amazing beach only few steps away!!
You can hear waves from your balcony
Staff are very attentive and nice restaurant downstairs. You can also get skuba diving classes right in the hotel
Many shops, 7-11, restaurants and coffee shops around this hotel. I also attended yoga classes just next door in ocean sound
Room is big and beautiful
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hostel is directly opposite Sairee Beach. It only takes 20 minutes to walk from Mae Haad pier to the Hostel. Around the hostel there are many diving schools and restaurants. The pool on the roof top is very nice. There are also many activities that you can join for example hiking to a snorkel spot or pool parties.
A simple but likable stay. I liked its location and it has a restaurant right by the beach with some cheap meal options. It is close to some shops and stores, including a motorbike rental place right across from it. I was taking a diving course at a dive center and chose this place because it sits pretty much right next to it.
Good location close to Sairee Beach, but far enough from the clubs to be quiet at night. There are some ants in the room but it is to be expected on the island. Free pickup and dropoff at the pier is very appreciated. The staff is always smiling and helpful. Very nice pool area. This hotel is a good value.
Fairly close to the pier, view was very nice, a pick up on arrival would have been nice even if it wasn’t free. The breakfast was very good each morning but never really changed to much. Pool was a bonus. Beach area at the hotel was very small but a short distance away was a larger public beach area.
Most amazing hotel, with the most beautiful beach we’ve seen in Thailand (after having visited many islands). Your room is hidden within the jungle (very authentic) with an outdoor shower! Also the staff are very friendly, and extremely helpful - for example helping with transfers to other islands.
Located in the nicest part of the beach. You have plenty of restaurants and bars near by.
The staff were super nice and they offer a free shuttle to the pier which is very convenient.
Also they organice daily trips to Yuan Island and diving spots from the hotel which was super cool :)
The view makes the hotel. It’s in an incredible location, I recommend renting mopeds to get around however as taxis are expensive for how far you have to go and Ko Tao is a small island to get around. Staff also very helpful and friendly to help anytime of day!
Location is where the actions are happening. It could be a bit noisy around but inside the hotel it is perfectly fine.
Just 300mts away from the beach.
The beds are very comfortable
AC (ITS GOOD!) An essential thing to have in here.
The staff is helpful.
a unique hotel, completely wooden, you begin to understand all the charm when you see other hotels, sun loungers on the beach, few people, which is a huge advantage, well-groomed hotel area.
