Very clean, comfortable and a good location. The host was lovely and helped us sort transport to Semuc with ease. It was a bonus we had hot water as I don’t think many hotels do in Lanquín.

Loved the hosts Mary and her son David.
The food is all homemade, generous portions, very tasty and reasonably priced. We felt very safe and secure.
We did the cave, tubing and Semuc Champney all day tour with David and loved every minute. His friendliness and energy made for an exilerating, special day - highly recommend

I only came here for Semuc Champey which was absolutely amazing! The caving experience was an absolute dream. Be warned that the hike to the viewpoint is pretty exhausting, but there's a lot of vendors selling water and coconuts among other refreshments and treats on the way! The town itself isn't that much (at the moment), but I found my 2 night stay to be the perfect amount of time here!

The road is under so major construction, so if you are walking around, be prepared for mud and loose gravel. If you are to see Semuc Champey, as most people do, it is about a 10km ride from Lanquin. You can hop in the back of a truck or walk (it is a long haul!) If you jump in the back of a truck, be sure to get the front or the side, avoid the middle, it is rough! The chill vibe at El Retiro in Lanquin was fantastic! Great people, right on the river and close to town.
Beautiful surroundings, Semuc Champey, hiking, etc
However takes relatively long to get there and in local transportation you need to be aware of being deceived by local drivers, e.g. "I am your last chance to get from A to B" - while there are collectivos around the corner... also they never seem to have change.... or even showing a bad attitude when you ask for change....

It is a rough road to Semuc Champey from Lanquin.
It is a rough road to Semuc Champey from Lanquin. There are not a lot of accommodation options in town but it is definitely worth a stay there in order to see the park. I hope that there are some more accommodations there soon as they are working on paving the highway from Coban all the way to Lanquin right now.

This is a tiny roadside hovel on awful mostly dirt roads.
This is a tiny roadside hovel on awful mostly dirt roads. Hard beds, rooms are stagnant tiny concrete boxes with NO AC. Very loud with music & animals crowing/barking all night. Not professionally built but slapped together from different materials at different times on different levels with uneven steps in between.. Definitely a typical local hovel from where to embark on trip Semec Champey, but it’s barely better than local roadside shack. Soooo hot, humid & uncomfortable with no working wifi.
Walking through Lanquin takes less then 30 min with mostly fruit/grocery stands & filthy, uneven roads overtaken by packs of wild animals. Does not seem very safe. Mountain views are gorgeous though.

It's a long trip to get to Lanquín. 1 hour off the main road to get to Lanquín and one more hour to get to Semuc Champey. Semuc Champey is absolutely beautiful. But you will burn a day getting there and a day returning. So if your time is limited in Guatemala, I don't think it would be my first choice.
