A charming town and free from high rise apartment blocks or huge hotels. Full of character and interest. The beaches are close by and a few can be accessed by ferry about 15 minute ride away. Others by bus or uber. A few restaurants really hit the spot: Come Na Gaveta, Pausa, O Castelo and Artefact. The castle is worth a visit and most places are walkable. Comfortable shoes a must as the streets are cobblestones.

Tavira is nice, but the stones polished by decades of cars and foot traffic made the sloping sidewalks/roads feel almost treacherous. This is not the location to get away from freezing rain. Some of the old area in the east side is undergoing upgrades to the water system, which means it may be dusty.JohnCanada - 4.0Scored 4.0

Cute little city full of 70 year old tourists. Few restaurants other than Indian food. Little shopping. Beaches nice but very difficult to access. Pararia do barrill involves street parking then walking a half mile to a train which will take you 1 mile to the beach for 2eu each way. Or you can walk on a slanted broken walkway all the way. We are scoping out retirement options so were looking for...
We are scoping out retirement options so were looking for walkability and reliable public transportation. Tavira offers both! Local market is full of fresh meat, fish, fruits and vegetables along with wares such as baskets and cut flowers. Lots of restaurants and shops. Walking distance to train which we took to the eastern border then hopped a ferry to Spain for lunch. We opted out of the hotel breakfast and found a cafe across the river for coffee and avocado toast one day, another day we went to the Pingo Doce grocery store for coffee and a breakfast sandwich. We tried a different restaurant for dinner every night and every meal was fantastic. If we had to do it over again, we would not have rented a car. The metro, train and bus system is reliable and comfortable as well as much cheaper and less stressful.Kellogg - 6.0Scored 6.0

Loved the Friendliness in this nice quaint old town, unfortunately the roads / streets were in process of being dug up & left rather unsafe ( we witnessed a lady falling).. lots of cobbled streets which were left unfinished. Hopefully they will complete soon for travellers & residents to enjoy this lovely town.

This place have special energy. Silence. You fill so relaxed. Other people who come to this place were positive, polite, friendly. Hotel staff is so kind. They pay attention to each visitor. Super kind and positive people in restaurant. All of them. At breakfast, lunch and dinner. We filled so welcomed here. Delicious food. Excellent dinner. Though i wish i was in a more social state of mind myself, it was just what i needed. Mark were amazing in his way to connect and push me in the right amount in the yoga. And it might have been a tip i got from him that acctually saved my health. Next time i go visiting portugal i will bring my daoughter to go see them so she can feel this atmosphear. AND they have a dog Sultan!! and he is amazing! he likes to be brushed.

(sunbeds quite expensive 19 euros for 2 beds and an umbrella) . Isla de tavira a short walk from the hotel to a ferry 2.2 euros return takes you out to Isla de Tavira. White sandy beach. Boats very assessable and regular. Tavira has some excellent restaurants including some fine dining. Lots going on. Also visited fuzeta beach (short train ride from Tavira station (also on to faro town)GayeUnited Kingdom

They served us excellent breakfasts and kept us entertained with their knowledge of Tavira and Portugal in general. This was a small place but very well located for bus and train stations. Lots of restaurants around too. The property had a lovely roof terrace which we enjoyed using. Fabulous little place and amazing people running it. Even took us to the station when we left. Miguel and Miguel thank you both for a wonderful time in Tavira.

Gorgeous view out on balcony of pool and resort with a distant ocean view. Breakfast was great. Plenty of fresh fruit, coffee, omelettes, cheese (especially the brie), breads and more. Nice staff there. Location was great. We stayed on a room only basis which was fine as there are lovely cafes and restaurants just a short walk away. The ice cream at the cafe next door is delicious too. There is a supermarket a short walk away and more shops on the other side of the river. There is a ferry which runs several times a day which takes you over to a beautiful beach for a small fee.
