We like Ouistreham very much.
We like Ouistreham very much. The old town and church are well worth visiting and the beautiful memorials on the beach are very moving. We are not young (!) but enjoyed the sea air and were able to park our car easily for a gentle walk through the trees to the beach. Lovely. Nice town but really just for a stopover for the ferry which is why I stay there several times a year. Restaurants around the port can be problematic as they are mostly aimed at British tourists providing moules et frites for the adults and burgers for the youngsters and most doing pizzas as well. Difficult to get decent French cuisine there. If you go a bit further into the town proper there is a wider range with some French cuisine but also more pizzas. We visited as a starting point for pursuing our interest in the Second World War Normandy D Day events. Ouistreham is ideal for this. The hotel was as good as always: clean, comfortable, convenient, with friendly staff. We arrived by car late afternoon and had easy access to the hotel, enjoyed a walk into the port to have dinner and slept well before catching the morning ferry to the UK. More expensive than a hotel even closer to the port that I’ve previously used but well worth the extra cost and I’d definitely stay there again.
