01. Innere Stadt
0.1 miles from downtown
Vienna’s historic sites (and shopping district) are in the city center by Ringstrasse Boulevard. St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Hofburg museum complex, Rathaus (town hall), State Opera, Burg Theater and Vienna University are within walking distance. Graben and Kärntner Strasse are the main shopping streets, with international and local options.

02. Leopoldstadt
1 miles from downtown
This district features two of Vienna’s biggest draws in one place: the Prater Park and its giant Ferris Wheel. A fairly traditional neighborhood, with many synagogues and kosher shops that cater to the largely Jewish population. On Saturdays, visit the bustling Karmeliter Market for food and contemporary art.
Places to stay from $15 a night
03. Landstraße
1.2 miles from downtown
The mainly residential 3rd district features several museums and a shopping mall above Landstrasse-Wien Mitte station. The district’s star attraction is the Belvedere, with its baroque gardens and Klimt’s "Kiss." Other museums include the KunstHausWien and MAK. See a concert at Wiener Konzerthaus for a touch of classical or world music.

04. Wieden
1.1 miles from downtown
With its young and friendly charm, Vienna’s 4th district is home to the Technical University, the Wien Museum, and St. Charles' Church with Karlsplatz Square, site of a popular Christmas Market. Join the young and trendy in the friendly Freihausviertel, full of boutiques, hip bars and small restaurants.

05. Margareten
1.6 miles from downtown
Margareten’s on the rise. This blue-collar district is blossoming into a post-industrial haven for artists, hipsters and cool cats. At the heart of it all is Margaretenplatz, a lively square that brims with funky bars and kooky boutiques. Catch an arthouse flick at Filmcasino, then slip into Schlossquadrat’s hidden wine gardens for refreshments.

07. Neubau
1.3 miles from downtown
Neubau is an enchanting mix of old and new. For quintessential Viennese charm, walk through historic Spittelberg with its narrow alleys and Biedermeier-style houses. Head to Neubaugasse and the surrounding streets for shopping. The Volkstheater ("people’s theater") founded in 1889 hosts year-round shows (check their website for details).
Places to stay from $29 a night
08. Josefstadt
1.1 miles from downtown
The smallest district is a popular residential area very close to the city center. Josefstadter Strasse features many local Viennese cafes, small boutiques and restaurants with various cuisines. Baroque art fans shouldn’t miss the Piarist Church of Maria Treu with its picturesque square.

09. Alsergrund
1.2 miles from downtown
Alsergrund was the birthplace of Schubert and hometown of Sigmund Freud. Freud’s house on Berggasse 19 gives insight into his life and practice. With all of Vienna's imperial palaces, countless architectural achievements, and a world-renowned cafe culture, there's almost too much to do in Austria's amazing capital.
The historic city center is like an open-air museum, so it's no surprise it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ringstrasse Boulevard is lined with beautiful buildings like the Rathaus (town halll), the Spanish Riding School, and the Hofburg Palace. However, the best place to check out the city's main sights is in the MuseumsQuartier – a collection of great museums, as well as cozy cafes and bars all housed in former stables. Highlights include the MUMOK, Leopold Museum, Kunsthalle, Architekturzentrum, and the interactive children's museum Zoom.
Enjoy the unique atmosphere of Vienna's coffee shops at Café Schwarzenberg—the oldest café on the Ringstrasse—which serves traditional liver dumpling soup and apple strudel. There's also Café Central, where icons like Leo Trotsky and Sigmund Freud used to gather. Then head over to the Riesenrad for some beautiful views over the city. This classic Ferris wheel is 215 feet tall and takes about 20 minutes to make a full rotation.
Vienna International Airport is right outside the city limits and can be reached easily by train, bus or taxi.

Vienna is wonderful.

Vienna is wonderful. Perfect both for sightseeing, museum visiting and relaxing in coffee shops. Get Vienna Pass, it's extremely profitable if you want to visit many museums. All museums were great, I especially liked Albertina, Kunsthistorishes Museum, Narrenturm, Imperial Treasury and Weltmuseum. The Zoo was lovely. Ferris Wheel was skippable :)

Beautiful city with a lot of green areas, amazing architecture and museums. I really liked The Butterflies House, Madhouse Tower and Museum of Art. I couldn't find some places for drinking coffee or drinks in parks or nearby the river, but maybe I haven't looked for enough :-) A lot of cafeterias and restaurants are closed since Saturday's evening till Monday morning, what is a shame and odd for me. I recommend Wien to visit and see, but it will be not a return-place.
Vienna is a fantastic city to visit.

Vienna is a fantastic city to visit. Just make sure you do your research beforehand. There are so many historic, religious, cultural, museum opportunities, you need to know where you want to go before you get here! You will not need a rental car if you stay within the city, because public transport is more than adequate (and very well maintained!) Learn a few basic German phrases before you get here, but, don't worry, everyone knows English, too. If you travel out to the countryside, you can still communicate, but not quite as easily.

Vienna is a beautiful city, we only spent a long weekend but could easily have had more days. Lots of culture and sites to see and easy enough to walk around or plenty of public transport to take. The food was amazing, would recommend to pre book as a lot of places were already full if you didn't.

We've found Vienna to be the same as 6 years ago, museums, monuments and attractions' wise. Prices, though, went through the roof on admission tickets to various venues and restaurants meals. We've still revisited 'The Albertina', Hofburg Sisi Museum, St Stephan's Cathedral, and so on.

Vienna is a stunning city to visit whether enjoying beautiful coffee, browsing in shops of interest or going to a concert. I am an avid knitter and loved the yarn shops in Vienna. I highly recommend wollewien, Pingouin and Laniato. They each had a great selection of yarns. wollewien was my top pick because the staff were extremely knowledgeable and very helpful.
