It's a city with not much to offer. You're better off in La Paz, where the views are nicer, the scenery is just better. But you're really much better off in the more rural places, in the mountains, by the lakes and away from the cities.

Santa Cruz de la Sierra is an interesting city with a busy and parcely old part downtown. You find museums, the main plaza with the cathedral, shops for everyone, big restaurants and small places who sell delicious local food. Also thera are some modern shopping malls as also black markets where you find everything you might need for living. Cultural events are offered and some really nice places with abundant semi-tropical vegetation as well as places with a lake to swim and hotels. You can take a taxi or go by bus to almost every place you like, in general it is very safe, only in the outskirts you should be more careful and maybe not go there at nigt. Always take your purse with important things in front of you - just in case!
I certainly recommend Santa Cruz for a visit! A little bit outside there are the sanddunes and the botanical garden and other places like the Chiquitania, also very worth visiting!

Friendly people (is famous for its hospitality).
Friendly people (is famous for its hospitality). Is the most productive area of the country, you can find everything you expect of a big city. I like my staying and I will be back with more time and better organized agenda. Given the size of the city and the weather (mostly humid and hot) a car is necessary to visit properly Santa Cruz.

Nothing much to see in Santa Cruz, especially if you want to avoid catching Dengue Fever. I avoided traveling to more rural areas or even to the botanical gardens due to the high number of dengue cases there. In the city itself there's very little to see, although the nicer parts have some decent-looking restaurants and bars, so maybe during the dry season (less mosquitos) it might be a nice place to relax.

Santa cruz has a old historic center, a bit dangerous.
Santa cruz has a old historic center, a bit dangerous. Better to stay in the modern hotel district of Avenida San Martin, locals call this the VIP zone. Many nice restaurants and cafes, stores, boutiques and shopping malls.
I highly suggest you visit the jesuit mision area!
The five day circuit is perfect to see all the misions.

We liked Casa de Camba and the city center.
We liked Casa de Camba and the city center. It is not easy to walk on some streets because they are uneven. We didn’t like seeing the trash in the streets. Other than that there is plenty to do and see in the city.

I am a regular traveller with Booking.com - but rarely leave reviews. This place is worth highlighting though. A really beautiful hotel - stylishly designed with sizeable and comfortable rooms. The photos do not really do it justice. An extremely large restaurant and bar, and just about every amenity needed. I swam lengths in the outdoor exercise pool - the water was cold, but I like it that way. The area is really one of the best in Santa Cruz, with some great popular restaurants and bars just around the corner.
I liked the decoration, the size, the fact that it was small, familiar, in summary, it was cosy. The bed is comfortable, and everything is very clean. The room is spacious, the idea of an integrated outdoor bathroom is interesting The staff is very pleasant, many of them were Brazilian. Always trying to be helpful and make our stay as pleasant as possible. As I left very early the next day, they insisted on providing me with breakfast early, outside the hotel's usual opening hours.
Possibly the best breakfast I ever had, at a hotel otherwise. We were served with fresh fruits, coffee, fresh OJ, eggs, bacon, yogurt parfait, toasts, cheese balls, and a delicious looking dessert that we didn’t have room for in our very satisfied tummies. So much good food!
Staff is very friendly, one speaks decent English, the other 2 spoke little to no English but all are very helpful when we needed help.
This hotel would cost you probably $300/night in Canada so the value for money here is incredible! It was perfectly clean, and well located near a ton of great cafes, bars and restaurants (best area to stay in Santa Cruz for sure). It was the most comfortable bed we’ve slept in in our 2 months in South America, plus the breakfast was great and the rooftop pool was a lifesaver with the heat!
The property is quite nice. Maintained properly on the Bolivian level. Hot water and cold water shower. Ok clean. Good wify (above and on the ground floor) and comfy seats with plugs near them. Moreover, they keep your bags at the counter (or behind), with staff all the time, so it felt secure (for me).
All in all, great experience : ).
Very modern with large blow up photos everywhere- thus lacking a strong Bolivian character. Although this should have annoyed/disappointed me, to my surprise there checked all the other thoughtful small boxes. Excellent breakfast, hot shower, quiet safe neighborhood, friendly helpful staff, great bed.
The hotel in contrast of other 5star hotels considering the country was beautiful. The garden architecture and setting was beautiful. The restaurant had variety although a bit expensive for the quality of food at the location. American food made for a diner
Breakfast was fantastic and hotel staff were always happy to help whenever I had trouble. Location was close to downtown and quite convenient. Staff were friendly and assisted with carrying heavy bags up the stairs.
Manager was not friendly. I was not happy with the hotel or accommodations and she refuse to refund the second night stay for me to move to another hotel. Staff was much better than the actual manager.acc
Very corporate but after travelling around Bolivia for a week it was like a shining beacon of luxury - a good Marriott great pool and room and English speaking reception 🤗
The kitchen was large as was the eating area, with a smart TV. Breakfast was nice, more options than some hostels in Bolivia. Had a nice terrace, and air con.
