Many families visiting La Paz loved staying at Midtown La Paz, The Grand La Paz Experience Hotel Boutique, and Novum Hotel.
The old centre of town is wonderful, great markets and shops, classic cobbled streets, magnificent old buildings, friendly locals and lots of options for eating out and shopping. Many of the streets are quite steep, so not good for those with mobility issues.
The day I arrived was a carnaval day, all shopping stores were closed (february 25th), and the city was very noisy, with frequent "CHALLA" explosions out on the streats along the day. There were a coupe of restaurants opened. Also because of the altitud your movements must be limited.
One of the most wonderful things about La Paz was the importance and inclusion of the indigenous culture there. The cost of everything was so affordable. There were such a variety of events... from Death Road Cycle, the Salt Flats, a variety of City Walking Tours, the Telefrico public transport, Food Tours, and just strolling the bustling and colourful markets. It was outstanding and so unique.
It is a great place to go. Good prices in everything. Hotels, good food, clothing, taxis, tours i mean everything. Is so much fun and specially the death road tour is amazing and safe. The only no positive is the traffic and the way they drive is scary in the city.
Interesting city with full of mountains. Traffic in the city centre is terrible but what they call teleferico (small cable cars in 10 different colours/routes) makes up an efficient public transport. People seem genuinely friendly and want you to have a good experience in their country. I only stayed 3 nights in La Paz to visit Uyuni for a full day but I guess I could have stayed longer to explore this city. Red cap walking tour with a local guide in the city for 2.5 hours was an excellent introduction to the city. I throughly recommend it to the first time visitors. I visited San Francsico basilica museum and was greeted by a guide and spent 2.5 hours. So make sure that you visit either before or after lunch. I ended up having a late lunch because I could not tell my enthusiastic guide to cut the visit short. The high altitude affected me a little but with drinking a lot of water, mate tea and some tablets, it can be overcome.
We arrived in La Paz at a difficult time for the country so many of our tours and trips were cancelled or cut short. We’d love to come back, it’s been hard to visit and explore the places we wanted to but we made the most of having some down time in a great hostel.
Great location and breakfast selection! Bed was a little on the soft side. Clean room and daily housekeeping. Luis, the receptionist, was very helpful in getting both of our laundry bags back to us - we had left our laundry in our own laundry bags for service but only one bag was given back to us initially. Luis was very professional, great at multitasking. The hotel is close to everything, even an ATM that doesn’t charge foreign withdrawal fees next door!
Qantu is a great hotel in La Paz. In fact, it was probably the best place we stayed in our whole Peru/Bolivia trip. The room was as advertised and the bathroom was exceptional! The water pressure in the shower was fantastic and there was actually amazing hot water. Breakfast was also fabulous with TONS of options. We took advantage of it to start our day and weren't hungry for hours afterwards. Staff were very kind and accommodating.
location was incredibly central but quiet. close to church that rang bells every 15 min but anything in the centre would wear them. Really quaint. our room looked over western La Paz and the Parliament which was such a treat. Bed was very comfy. Breakfast is simple but enough considering the good rate. $5 BOB I happened to leave on our table was still there after cleaning. Nice.
Breakfast was excellent. the staff was ready to prepare a wonderful omelette or a superb fruit salad. The hotel is part of an old fransiscan monastery and is full of colonial and bolivian history. The staff is really welcoming. Since our bus was only departing at night, we are allowed to wait in the hotel.
-good location for tourist sites ( witches market, shops on Linares, Iglesia de San Francisco, teleféricos) - close to a couple of decent restaurants -travel agency next to hotel reliable -fairly close to airport (30-40 min, longer depending on traffic) - breakfast included is decent - front staff helpful
Downtown La Paz, La Paz
We stayed in the Hostel during the bolivian election fraude crises, and the only light on the Horizont were the people inside the Hostel. They helped us to get Taxis, tried to get us out of the City and were always friendly. In Addition the English spoken was also Good. Would recommend the Hostel!
This place I recommend entirely. Eduardo, the staff and the hotel and its location were excellent. As a solo traveler on a motorcycle, they were generous to let me use the facility to clean and organize gear and accommodated my extended stay! 👍
The restaurant has amazing cuisine. Trucha is really tasty there, and the attention is nice. Ah, and the coffee is made the way should be. You free have access to oxygen bottles and that is not a minor support in La Paz.
The hotel is perfectly located if you need to work in the South of La Paz. The staff is great and the rooms are comfortable. The quality/price ratio is almost unbeatable.
Great location, close to everything. Very helpful staff. Amazing hotel comparing to what city offers. If I ever come back to La Paz, I would only stay here.
Beautiful decor with Bolivian wall hangings and craft work everywhere. Staff were great and even a very helpful travel office on site
The location was excellent - a stone's throw away from Plaza San Francisco and almost directly opposite the Bolivia Hop office!
The hotel is amazing. Decoration Superb and very comfortable rooms. Staff was very polite and always willing to service and help
Room was a quirky shape but in the end we had a lounge area and a bedroom. Bathroom was well maintained (and clean). We were on the 9th floor so well above the busy road beneath. Glimpses of La Paz were possible from the room (past the Hotel President which was obviously built to ruin the view from Hotel Gloria) but the Restaurant (top floor) offered really good views over the city. Breakfast only offered scrambled egg as a hot dish but there were endless fruit juices, pastries, coffee and bread with butter and jam. The hotel was very accommodating in guarding our luggage as we had a flight some 5 hours after check out.
This is a beautifully designed, modern hotel in an upscale location of La Paz, within walking distance of the green line cable car. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent (great breakfast buffet which includes spakling wine; we also loved the trout for dinner and the snacks and drinks at the roof top casabar). We travel a lot all over the world . This is a hotel, we will remember
Super comfortable bed & breakfast was great excite they ran out of eggs & seemed to think that was ok??! Locating ok and staff alright but spoke zero English.
La Paz
it’s in a beautiful location, near to La Paz but in the countryside. it’s warmer than La Paz as it’s lower. At the bottom of the valley they grow flowers
It’s a lovely boutique hotel and the staff were so helpful with me having to change some flights and get a COVID test to return back to the US.
The location, staff and food.
