Canto do Ile was the highlight of our trip to Brasil. The property is absolutely beautiful, and the way it's set up brings everyone together in the dining room to make it feel like a home. Everyone who worked there treated us like friends that they have known forever -- Lisa, Sergio, Fabiano, Emilia, Daniel, Leonardo, Maruscka and Rafael were so warm and had such excellent recommendations for us. We loved our diving experience with Sergio and Emilia's cakes and cookies were incredible. The historic center is a must-see town with amazing food and views, and the short bike ride into town was a great way to see more of Paraty.

Paraty is surrounded by emerald green forests attached to mountains that plummet directly into turquoise waters or white-sand beaches. The cobblestone streets and colonial houses of the city centre pay homage to its Portuguese roots, and accessible islands and secluded beaches lure the sun-seeking crowds.
White buildings decorated with colourful door arches and window surrounds line the small lanes of the historic old town. The 17th-century First Church of Our Lady of the Remedies watches over the shaded eastern meeting point of Matriz Square.
North of the canal are Pontal and Jabaquara beaches that are split by the Perpetual Defender fortress, built by the British in the 18th century. Hiring a boat will take you out to more remote islands like diving hot spot Ilha dos Meros or unspoilt Paraty-Mirim Beach, south of the city.
As part of Brazil’s Costa Verde coast, the nearby Gold Trail and Serra da Bocaina National Park highlight the native Atlantic forest and fauna such as the sloth.

Paraty is a magical place. Worthwhile the trip. I visited the place in 2004 and now again after 20 years. Much has changed (many more shops and lots of boats), but the essence of the historical center and the magnificent bay did not. It will make you happy.

Paraty is a little bit of heaven.
Paraty is a little bit of heaven.
I love the water, the beaches, the islands and the jungle. Hire a boat and explore!
Every night the city is a block party with tables in the street and music spilling out of restaurants.
Don't miss the historical museum.

It’s a must see for any visitor or even Brazilian.
It’s a must see for any visitor or even Brazilian. A beautiful town with a historic center. The city has various nice restaurants (but usually quite pricy) and shops.
Since it’s not in the mountains, it’s easier to visit than for example ouro preto.

I think 1 or 2 nights is just right.
I think 1 or 2 nights is just right. It is nice to do a layover in Paraty because on the bus ride to and from (Rio/Sao Paulo) you can see quite a bit of the smaller towns and nature. If you did a bus direct from SP to Rio it would stick to the main highways and you wouldn't see as much. Worth a visit if you have time but keep in mind everything will be slightly more expensive as local tourists also like coming here. There are also lots of festivals so depending if you like festivals you could time your trip to coincide with one of them. During my stay there was a gastronomy festival which was pretty cool. They had cooking demonstrations and free samples of stuff.

Paraty is nothing more than a tourist trap and scam.
Paraty is nothing more than a tourist trap and scam. It is just 4 streets of colonial buildings with arrogant people. It is marketed extremely well as you believe that Paraty is a village of only colonial buildings however to our surprise they have added (obviously quite some time ago) more buildings and a bigger village the new town shall we call it. It is full of homeless people and danger the floor is disgusting and the people are intimidating. The supermarket is poorly built shed with insects everywhere and extremely overpriced. we left a day earlier than planned as we could not wait to escape the hell hole.

Paraty has a very smalll historical area.
Paraty has a very smalll historical area. Unless you want to take a boat trip you can view the area in a couple of hours. The beaches in Paraty itself are not very nice for swimming but outside there are beautiful beaches and areas.
Beautiful colonial style home, wonderfully maintained with original historic elements. Perfectly clean with close attention to detail. Delicious breakfast in the morning, amazing fresh bread and pastries, fresh fruit cut for you. Freshly made Brazillian cheese pastries- absolutely delicious! Very friendly employees, we were even driven to the bus station at the end of our trip. Check in and check out was easy despite our lack of Portugese language. Only about a 20 minute walk to the Historical Centre of Paraty. We would highly recomend!
I booked for a single night and now wish so much to go back to Paraty to spend more time at Fernanda's place. The house is such a joy, I was there with family and we all had a great, relaxing time. Everything tidy, with a great eco-friendly vibe (composting etc). Hammocks and outdoor couches surrounded by fruit trees and birds are awesome to chill outside. A 15-20min walk in a safe neighborhood is all that takes to reach the old city, so the location is a great tradeoff between relaxing while being near the main attractions
Pousada Acaí is an amazing place, managed by an amazing staff. It is a small place, but everything is well organized, with a delicious breakfast made especially for you, and the location is just 12 to 15 minutes walk from the historic center, where you can find restaurants, bars, and souvenir stores.
When I get back to Paraty, this place will definitely be the first I'll look for.
Room was very clean and comfy, people were very friendly, Rinata at the reception was very helpful, kind and informative, she made everything very pleasant.
Breakfast was good, not much varieties but was good, and the cooks were very sweet.
Location is great, walking distance from the historical city, yet not noisy, and was good to have designated parking area for the hotel
Lovely pousada in Paraty. We were sad to only stay 1 night! It has a very peaceful and quiet vibe.
Garden and pool area are amazing with monkeys in the trees.
Secure parking on site is great.
Staff were very accommodating and helpful even though we did not speak Portuguese.
Breakfast had great choice and restaurant overlooks pool/garden area.
The pousada is pretty and comfortable, very clean and close to everything without being too busy or noisy. There is a very nice patio and common area. The staff is wonderful and they all seem to really enjoy their work. Breakfast is spectacular, and the 17:00 tea daily is very nice. I would definitely return on my next trip to Paraty.
The staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly. Delicious breakfast with excellent home made breads, and even afternoon tea and cake available too! Really good location too - very quick and easy to walk to where the day trip boats leave or into the old town. Our favourite hotel we've stayed in so far in Brazil.
The host who received us was kind. She shared 2 power adapter with us.
The place was quiet and the main bedroom was clean (see below).
Breakfast was ok. Far from an excellent breakfast when compared to the Brazilian standards for hotel breakfast.
Location near the bus station
Beautiful setting, lovely pool, friendly staff. This is a gem of a hotel and I'd really recommend staying here. It's a short taxi into Paraty and worth it for the view, easy access to the beach etc. We loved borrowing the kayaks and exploring around the area too
Cute place to enjoy you stay in Paraty. Really friendly staff and good breakfast with the classic brazilian fruit, cake, white bread, cheese, hot drinks, sweet cornflakes
You can rent a kajak for a small fee and start right from the terass of the hostel:)
Amazing place to stay in Paraty, it's safe, cozy, clean, and Felipe, the owner, is an amazing guy and super attentive. The hotel is 1.5 - 2 km from the historical center, but if you don't like walking there are bicycles available for the guests.
Beautiful pousada, comfortable and typical. Well-maintained with local products and arts. Super friendly staff. Perfect location, safe and central. No need of a car while staying there. Very recommended for your stay in Paraty!
Comfortable hotel in a historical building in the center of the historical city of Paraty. Near all main attractions within a walk distance in the center. The restaurant in the hotel serves a really good meal too.
Very nice pousada near the centre of Paraty and a lovely breakfast with a big choice of food. The pool is small and was in mainly in maintance in time of visiting but for a quick refreshment I guess it will do!
Everything was perfect, the location is amazing, Junior the barkeeper was fantastic, the whole team was kind and friendly, huge breakfast, if we come back to Paraty we will come back to this Pousada
The hotel was very clean and well kept. breakfast was amazing and Bjorn was awesome.. so very helpful and even helped me feel at home and guided us to some local sites…100% recommended!! 🙏
The staff is so accommodating and the courtyard with pool was heavenly. they also serve a wonderful breakfast. I literally could have hung out at the hotel all day and been very happy.
