Chongqing, a vibrant metropolis in southwest China, offers a unique blend of ancient charm and modern dynamism. Known as the "Mountain City," its dramatic landscape is crisscrossed by the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, creating stunning cityscapes. Visitors can indulge in world-famous Chongqing hot pot, explore the historic Ciqikou Old Town, or take a scenic cruise through the Three Gorges. The city's futuristic skyline, exemplified by Hongyadong stilted buildings, contrasts beautifully with traditional tea houses and bustling street markets. With its spicy cuisine, rich history, and warm hospitality, Chongqing promises an unforgettable experience for any traveler seeking to discover the heart of China.

The topography is incredible; the downtown area is on a high ridge, in one place has an old ten story building complex (Hongyadong) from the waterfront to the top, with food, trinkets and huge crowds.
There’s a real youth vibe to Chongqing. My favourite place was the Jiulonggpo area, where the buildings and local statues are covered in painted graffiti. The Sichuan Fine Arts museum in the area has four major modern art galleries, but outsiders are no longer allowed to visit, which sums up many of the contradictions of China today.
There’s a mountain of history here too which I didn’t get time to explore.
We mostly eat at cheap food-court type restaurants, or street stalls. Everything I read beforehand said the food is spicy, ie hot, and that’s kind of true, but I avoided hotpot and had nothing which was too hot; the spices just added to the flavour. With Maocai you can choose ingredients (vegetables, meat, noodles) to add into a kind of red, spicy soup, and you pay by weight. Chaocai and Hotpot are different styles.
The metro system is amazingly efficient. Install Alipay, connect it to your credit card, and you can download the Chongqing metro app and use a QR code to pay: no buying tickets or queueing.
If I had my time over I’d avoid the Three Gorges museum; nothing about the dam, the reasons for it, the problems it created. A very boring museum.

An amazing city, easy accessible for foreign travellers only that you may need to use Ailay pay app.
Visited zoo was very excited to see the Pandas. Only thing is the area looks very rundown considering these animals are a major tourist attraction. Some animals living in terribly walled cells super sad.

Chongqing was really a beautiful city, you can get the pleasant view of the buildings and the river itself. The food was delicious and the people was fun. And I was really lucky to have a friend over there so it was a really fantastic trip for me. The places I went were called Ciqikou, Hongwadong, Chaotianmen, and Shanchengbudao. These three places have a great view and as well as a great atmosphere which would make you want to stay there for hours! The food I liked there is called Wanzamian and Chuanchuanxiang. They are small pea noodle and a Chongqing style hotpot satay(you can look it up in the internet!). Anyway, I recommend you guys to try the hotspring over there in the winter. I hope this Corona Virus outbreak would end soon..... Would definitely visit again!

The architecture there are amazing.
The architecture there are amazing. It is very convenient to travel around with available public transport such as CRT and buses. 4 days are pretty enough if you just planned for tourist spots within ChongQing as all spots are quite nearby, about 30 minutes distance from spots to further spots. It is a foggy city hence night view will surpass day view. Also, can try to travel to some less mainstream spots.

A very lovely place to travel.
A very lovely place to travel. The scenery at night is very beautiful. I feel safe on the streets all the time. There are lots of choices if you want to go one to two days away from the city to get close to villages on the mountain, such as 武隆。
The hotel is very central, surrounding area with lots of food outlets near the river with full view of the city lights. The manager, Mr. Chan is very friendly and helpful. He upgraded our room to the top floor .He took us to the sight seeing area and gave us a lot of helpful information during our stay. He also lend us a tag to use on public transport and saves us a lot of time in purchasing tickets.
