How tranquil and quiet it was… probably the most wildlife we’ve seen in CR… and volcanic activity (you can literally hear it gurgling and see vents steaming down by the mud baths. Food was good and reasonable.

buena vista, comida rica a un excelente precio. la langosta de lujo.
There is no reason to go to Liberia. It’s a transit point: to lovely beaches to the west; mountains and jungle to the east; and the Nica border to the north. That being said, the Chinese restaurant & the Indian restaurant (Masala) in the center of town were both very tasty! The international airport, which is close by brings in tourists traveling in the north of Costa Rica.

We had to go all the way downtown for a bank machine.
We had to go all the way downtown for a bank machine. Information, such as bus scheduling was non existant at the station. You had to find someone who was familiar with the buses. There's not a lot of reason to stay in Liberia. It's more of a "stop off" due to the airport. Most eating places are downtown. There's not a great selection outside the core. Liberia is not a tourist friendly city.

Liberia is a good place to start traveling around Guanacaste...
Liberia is a good place to start traveling around Guanacaste and the Pacific northwest of Costa Rica..A good place to arrive as the airport is not as busy as San Jose. There are stores, including a large Walmart where you can get supplies. But I would not stay in the city except for 1 night when flying.

Liberia isn't a tourist town.
Liberia isn't a tourist town. It does allow you to see real Costa Rican life - which is the best part of travel. We walked all over town and always felt safe. It is also better to stay here than further north because you can catch tours that pick up travelers in Liberia.

I really enjoy Liberia.
I really enjoy Liberia. The downtown area by the park has lots of shopping. I went into a pharmacy and they had a free dr. who quickly diagnosed my problem and prescribed a medication that worked very well. There is a family run laundry with a half day turnaround. I really enjoyed a restaurant where the ceasar salad was made in front of you. It is two blocks from the main intersection on the right hand side of the road.
What would be very useful is a map of the city. We asked locals for directions and they were very helpful in directing us to what we needed.
Even though it’s the only hotel near the airport in Liberia Costa Rica, this hotel does not take advantage of that fact. The hotel is a perfect place to stay the night before an early morning flight - friendly, very clean, decent restaurant, pool (which we haven’t personally used), and they even had an outdoor screen for an important game on tv. we highly recommend.
The staff speak good English and are very helpful. Almenia recommends good brunch restaurants, and always offering tips and advice. So is Alicia who helps me get a taxi to the airport.
The hotel has the ambience of a hacienda. Outside on both sides of the highway are many restaurants including the regular fast food joints.
Clean comfortable rooms with everything needed for a 1 night stay near the airport. Staff were exceptionally helpful in helping me arrange local transportation and getting a SIM card set up for my time in Costa Rica. Quiet and relaxing places to sit outside, and a great breakfast included in the morning.
Melvin is a great host. He communicates clearly and speaks excellent English. His home is clean and comfortable with cold AC. The house even has a washer and dryer to use for the asking. It is central located near the airport and downtown.
Cell mvenient location to airport. Secured parking for one (my) car even though I didn’t request. Abuela Catalina very friendly and her grandson was was great in recommending some things nearby. Great for a quick overnight!
Location a little tricky to find (host picked me up by car at a nearby hotel). Quiet and safe! Excellent hosts. Easy to walk to store, park, neighborhood restaurants. Host washed and folded my clothes for a small fee.
the location is ideal, just near the airport but still such warm welcome to Costa Rica. beautiful grounds, garden views from the room. Enormous pool! You won’t feel like you’re in an “Airport” hotel!
Very convenient hotel for flying through Liberia Airport. The pool area was very nice and we enjoyed the bar, which had good food. The room was everything we needed and was very clean.
Large rooms, quiet AC, well equipped gym and giant pool. Breakfast is way better than at other nearby hotels. Price per night is very good, considering all the hotel offers.
This is not a destination property. This is a spot close to the airport. Period. It does the simple job of providing a bed, a bathroom and a roof over them. That’s it.
Lovely owner and staff that are very helpful. They even organized a nice trip to a beautiful river nearby Liberia. Stayed twice in the hostel and had good experiences.
Lovely restaurant and best breakfast we had during our two week stay in Costa Rica. Great pool area. Ideal for an overnight stay before heading to Liberia Airport.
