ONDA is the best hostel I’ve been to around the world! In terms of location, food, amenities, cleanliness, privacy, and fun atmosphere. It’s so close to the beach (5 min walk) and passes by two other places with food and board rentals on the way (ONDA also has these). There is a huge window for natural sunlight (at least in the all-female 4-bed) with not one but TWO different full-window shades - one to fully block out the light to sleep in and one translucent to let in light without letting people outside see in. You also get TWO comfy pillows and the beds are super comfy! The AC and fan work perfectly with no glitches and are adjustable. The pool is lovely for a relaxing chill time. Cold/hot drinking water dispenser is centrally located and there is a lovely eating area private to the hostel on top of the outdoor eating area by the kitchen and bar in the biergarten! Plenty of vegan options and delicious meaty food as well as Costa Rican and U.S. classics. Also a pool table. Music playing outdoors and it’s lively but chill and ends early enough for sleep (10pm-ish) and doesn’t even really reach the rooms. They also give you THREE towels and a little individual rug which is especially great when you get back from the beach or pool. And the staff was AMAZING - so friendly and helpful and available and just cool, interesting people! Also the room key is a braided bracelet - hard to lose! And just super clean everywhere. All in all, a wonderful experience and would absolutely stay here again.

Everything was more than lovely. Best place to stay on the Guanacaste coast. So beautiful and refreshing. Very private huts with outdoor showers, clean stylish space, stunning landscape and monkeys in the trees. Sophie is very kind and has created a beautiful experience for her guests. 10/10.

The staff was truly the highlight of the trip. Gerson was absolutely incredible — sweet, endlessly helpful, and an amazing support. Both Andrea and Yorya, who we saw less of were also very helpful. Playa Grande beach is amazing, and the perfect place to learn to surf, if you're interested. Ask for Chico. He was a great teacher, as was the Pacific Ocean. Our stay was overall very good. The beach is also fairly private and relaxed. Not a ton of people, a few surfers, a few families. We felt absolutely fine leaving our stuff on the beach and walking the 400m into the water when the tide was out. And if you can take in the sunset or the stars on Playa Grande and not feel something, then you're not alive.
The food at the restaurant was solid, the nearby Mar Azul became our go-to for a meal away, and if you're looking for an interesting social experiment the Hotel Grateful is a short walk away. There's also a very helpful little minimart/bodega just up the road.

Being near the beach at Playa Grande is a treat. Once all the building construction is finished around the property it will be fantastic. The breakfasts were very tasty. The workers were very friendly. Any request was granted by the staff.

I didn't realize it was a tube we were staying in and the location was secluded, we actually found a different hotel in town where we had a blast
Playa grande was such a relaxing place. The beach sunsets were amazing! Took an estuary tour with Luis right off the beach - private tour for 2 was only $70 and we saw crocodiles, monkeys and amazing birds. Tamarindo is a fun day trip (taking the water taxi, or asking to be dropped off there after the boat tour). There is a cool food truck court at the end and behind the beach that has an iguana walking about. Tamarindo was nice if you like lots of people and lots of bar and food choices but playa grande was so much more chill of a spot. Loved it and will be back! Cantarana cafe had the best coffee and almond croissants and dinner upstairs was really good. Servers for breakfast and dinner were fabulous! The Tortuga was a great spot - with the most delicious fish bites I’ve ever had! Cafe Mar Azul was so much fun- Sunday night entertainment needs a reservation. Such a good price for amazing fish dinners.

Playa Grande is perfect for running or walking on the beach, however not for swimming, snorkeling or floating. On the other side of Playa Grande (crossing the river) there is Tamarindo, a crazy town full of tourists with its own long beach. If you are looking for a laid back place, Tamarindo is NOT where you want to be. Lots of traffic and tons of people walking in the streets and hanging around. Can't imagine what is like in high season. Stores have beautiful clothes but they are pretty expensive. Definitely a surfing town, everyone walks with a board under their arm...lol.

Location, beautiful beach , facilities and great bed !
Lovely responsive employees!
Restaurant next door offered excellent food .
Not sure why everything had to be paid in cash eg car rides, trips etc . That was inconvenient.
One has to have cash on hand as most business was done that way. However we were told only in “ low” season.
The location was small and intimate and easy to access by foot. A car wasn’t always needed.

Beautiful beach line. Great for surfing and boogie boarding.
Beautiful beach line. Great for surfing and boogie boarding. Trees at the beach provide plenty of shade. Long and picturesque shore line is excellent to walk in the morning or at dawn hours. Amazing sunsets.

Nice quiet area.
Nice quiet area. A limited but good selection of eating places nearby. the beach is great for walking, swimming or riding a bike. It does not have shade trees on the beach. Lots of different birds.
Go to Hotel El Manglar to book mangrove estuary boat tour. it is very good. Playa Grande is much quieter than Tamarindo but it is about 40 minute drive if you want to go to Tamarindo.

I liked the area, which is a very long beach near the national park. Note that access can be limited, as it is a very bumpy and unpaved road from the national park entrance to the villas at the end of the peninsula towards Tamarindo.
Beach was fine enough to walk in - lots of shells and surfers. Water wasn't cold, but wasn't totally warm either, comfortable temperature to walk.
If you walk down to the end of the peninsula, water taxis that are only $2 will take you over to Tamarindo, so in the end it's nice to be a bit secluded away from the action, yet still have access to shopping and entertainment if you need it. Just wave to the guys at the other end!
Very quiet, romantic location not far from some very good local restaurants, micro breweries, coffee shops, fruit stands, etc., and a short drivee to Playa Grande. Beautifully landscaped property with a perfect infinity pool. You are basically staying in a treehouse with modern amenities. Playa Grande is a very laid back alternative place to stay if you want to be away from the crazy hustle and bustle of touristy Tamarindo, although Tamarindo can be fun.
Just a few steps from the beautiful yet not so crowded playa grande beach, the hotel has an amazing restaurant with varied food and excellent drinks. The room was big, renovated and with AC. Overall nice facilities with a pool. Laundry service is also offered (paid separately). The hotel helped organize a surf class with a local instructor in English that we really enjoyed. Would definitely go back!
The room was ok, good size for 2, private clean bathroom, cleaning service during the stay, good breakfast, laundry service for 10$. Super quite place which was nice but 15min walking to the closest beachs
There was nothing wrong with my stay, just after it, I think it was not worth the money after have been in 10 hostels/hotels.
A small boutique hotel with lovely gardens and pool. The room was spacious with large bathroom and a kitchen area. The bed was very comfortable. There is a nice open balcony restaurant at the property. Breakfast was an additional fee with my booking. About a 5 minute walk to the beach. Will definitely plan to stay here again.
The property is close to the beautiful Playa Grande and the grounds are beautiful. There are two pools and each room has a nice hammock to chill in. Despite being right next to the road, it's very peaceful, and the gardens make you feel like you are in a lush environment. The yoga studio is also very beautiful and spacious.
The just newly opened hostel/hotel is really beautiful and you feel at home the second you walk in! the people are so nice and the owners are really open and interested in getting to know their guests. they help out and try their best. the food is really good and it’s clean!
Indra Inn had a great vibe. People staying respectfully shared the well stocked kitchen and sometimes company. There is a full library and hammocks for lazy afternoons. The owners are attentive and kind. Within 10 minute walk from restaurants and beach and small markets.
Beautiful, clean hotel that is steps from the beach. The rooms were lovely, and the staff at reception were very friendly. The outdoor kitchen is clean and the lounging area is nice. We highly recommend this hotel to others.
The room was amazing - open to the nature.
The hotel garden is beautiful, lot of plants, flowers, bee hives, even got the visit of animals like monkeys.
Peaceful swimming pool to relax.
Good breakfast.
Welcoming hosts.
It’s our 4th stay. We come back because it’s peaceful and near the beach. We love the water taxi across the estuary to Tamarindo. We can do a bit of shopping and dine in the beach and return to the peaceful setting.
It was a nice quiet place close to the beach. The staff and owners were very nice and polite helped out with anything you needed. The food was delicious. I will go back again.
Hotel was close to the beach, and a good restaurant nearby, the room was comfortable, the outdoor settings had a great funky tropical theme, staff were friendly and helpful
the location is amazing because you can enjoy the private beach of Playa Grande but if you want you can take a boat and you’ll be in Tamarindo in less than 5 minutes.
