Being near the beach at Playa Grande is a treat. Once all the building construction is finished around the property it will be fantastic. The breakfasts were very tasty. The workers were very friendly. Any request was granted by the staff.

one of the most favorite places we stayed, good place for meeting others, breakfast was made every morning for us by some lovely local ladies. Surf board rentals, beautiful location, would stay here again for sure.
Playa grande was such a relaxing place. The beach sunsets were amazing! Took an estuary tour with Luis right off the beach - private tour for 2 was only $70 and we saw crocodiles, monkeys and amazing birds. Tamarindo is a fun day trip (taking the water taxi, or asking to be dropped off there after the boat tour). There is a cool food truck court at the end and behind the beach that has an iguana walking about. Tamarindo was nice if you like lots of people and lots of bar and food choices but playa grande was so much more chill of a spot. Loved it and will be back! Cantarana cafe had the best coffee and almond croissants and dinner upstairs was really good. Servers for breakfast and dinner were fabulous! The Tortuga was a great spot - with the most delicious fish bites I’ve ever had! Cafe Mar Azul was so much fun- Sunday night entertainment needs a reservation. Such a good price for amazing fish dinners.

Playa Grande is perfect for running or walking on the beach, however not for swimming, snorkeling or floating. On the other side of Playa Grande (crossing the river) there is Tamarindo, a crazy town full of tourists with its own long beach. If you are looking for a laid back place, Tamarindo is NOT where you want to be. Lots of traffic and tons of people walking in the streets and hanging around. Can't imagine what is like in high season. Stores have beautiful clothes but they are pretty expensive. Definitely a surfing town, everyone walks with a board under their arm...lol.

Location, beautiful beach , facilities and great bed !
Location, beautiful beach , facilities and great bed !
Lovely responsive employees!
Restaurant next door offered excellent food .
Not sure why everything had to be paid in cash eg car rides, trips etc . That was inconvenient.
One has to have cash on hand as most business was done that way. However we were told only in “ low” season.
The location was small and intimate and easy to access by foot. A car wasn’t always needed.

Beautiful beach line. Great for surfing and boogie boarding.
Beautiful beach line. Great for surfing and boogie boarding. Trees at the beach provide plenty of shade. Long and picturesque shore line is excellent to walk in the morning or at dawn hours. Amazing sunsets.

Nice quiet area.
Nice quiet area. A limited but good selection of eating places nearby. the beach is great for walking, swimming or riding a bike. It does not have shade trees on the beach. Lots of different birds.
Go to Hotel El Manglar to book mangrove estuary boat tour. it is very good. Playa Grande is much quieter than Tamarindo but it is about 40 minute drive if you want to go to Tamarindo.

I liked the area, which is a very long beach near the national park. Note that access can be limited, as it is a very bumpy and unpaved road from the national park entrance to the villas at the end of the peninsula towards Tamarindo.
Beach was fine enough to walk in - lots of shells and surfers. Water wasn't cold, but wasn't totally warm either, comfortable temperature to walk.
If you walk down to the end of the peninsula, water taxis that are only $2 will take you over to Tamarindo, so in the end it's nice to be a bit secluded away from the action, yet still have access to shopping and entertainment if you need it. Just wave to the guys at the other end!
I loved the ambiance of Villa Kalei; very peaceful. Wonderful after a morning of activity to nap by the pool or after taking dinner at one of the lovely nearby restaurants. Even though there were other guests, we rarely saw them. I loved the room too; very Zen vibe. Didn't want to leave! We also loved the outdoor kitchen; eating breakfast in the morning and looking for the monkeys in the trees. Geisha and Marcos are kind, gracious, and know a lot about the area and the country which was so helpful.
It was the first time experiencing a place like this, and it was a very nice experience! The location is very close to restaurants and Playa Grande, although it is true, the entrance is sandy so it is recommended to be careful. But the place was very quiet, the gampling comfortable and with what we needed. The breakfast is totally worth it. There was a cat, and we are a fan of them, so it was very nice to see.
And it should be noted that we forgot a hat and Antoine reminded us, he was very kind.
This is a super nice place with only 4 rooms. It is super charming close to Playa Grande. The staff are super nice, and we had the best breakfast of our whole trip there with birds visiting us as we ate. There is a private walkway to the beach. The room is really nice with a balcony to enjoy the nature. There is a nice coffee machine in the room as well which is a big plus. There is a cafe attached to the place where you can have snacks and a coffee with beautiful views. Highly recommended.
We can barely believe this amazing spot exists! For an affordable price, we had a comfortable and stylish stay in a beautiful location literally a minute's walk from the beach. Playa Grande itself was an ideal alternative to Tamarindo, where you can have the beach practically to yourself for the morning and hear the crickets chirping as you enjoy the hotel pool in the evening. We also had wonderful service and conversation with all the staff. We highly recommend it!
Just a few steps from the beautiful yet not so crowded playa grande beach, the hotel has an amazing restaurant with varied food and excellent drinks. The room was big, renovated and with AC. Overall nice facilities with a pool. Laundry service is also offered (paid separately). The hotel helped organize a surf class with a local instructor in English that we really enjoyed. Would definitely go back!
Our unit included a kitchen where we cooked for ourselves, but their "sister" lodging a couple of doors down the road has both a coffee shop and a restaurant. The pool is lovely, their private path to Playa Grande is right across the street, and the neighborhood is a quiet gated residential community. But if you're looking for nightlife, stay at the north end of the beach where Rip Jack is.
El Reinas has the friendliest, nicest staff ever. They were really happy to help us with anything we needed and were extremely nice, there is a dog called Dafne and she is so sweet. Also, the hotel has a great location with a 3 minutes walk to the beach.
Dan was friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. The rooms were large and clean, and the restaurant, marker, and surf shop downstairs had everything we needed. Playa Grande, a large, quiet, pristine beach was a short walk away
We enjoyed walking to the Grande beach & restaurants nearby. It was located at a nice safe area with a parking space & great breakfast. The owners are very friendly & speak good English. We had an enjoyable stay there.
Nice, quiet, nice design, friendly, good to have part of a common kitchen, nice area and small beach village nearby, nice little warm pool, friendly owners. Perfect 4 days for us.
Atmosphere is very chill (hammocks, pool), staff is very friendly, helpful and professional. I like the Playa Grande beach more than Tamarindo, more calm, amazing sunsets
Everything was perfect! A quiet place in the national park close to the beach. A perfect get-away location and a great hotel.
The staff was really helpful and welcoming.
