A Grimm Fairytale
Although known for the Nuremberg Trials, this Bavarian city has a stunning medieval core of cobbled streets and half-timbered buildings that wouldn’t look out of place in a fairy tale. Sitting above this is the castle, one of the most important in the Holy Roman Empire. Take the steep walk up here for fantastic old town views.
Hauptmarkt square in the old town is home to an unusual-looking church and a Gothic fountain, spectacularly lit during the annual Nuremberg Christmas markets. Selling everything from wooden toys to lebkuchen (gingerbread), these are widely considered the best Christmas markets in Germany.
Other attractions in Nuremberg (Nürnberg in German) include the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, the country’s largest museum of culture and art. Another highlight is the Heilig-Geist-Spital, a medieval hospital by the Pegnitz River.
A word must also be said about its relationship with Nazism. On the south-east corner are the immense Nazi Rally Grounds and Party Congress Hall, built in appropriately domineering fashion. The excellent Documentation Center here is a sensitive and unbiased portrayal of life under Hitler. It is also possible to visit the courtroom where the war trials were held.
Before leaving your Booking.com apartment, hotel or hostel to go to Nuremberg Airport, don’t forget to try the spicy local sausage!

Nürnberg was a lovely place to stay! We had visited the old town and the castle there, we has also visited the Nuremberg Trails Museum along with the rally grounds. Perfect for the history lovers! We had also stayed locally for our last day there. Everything was great. It was very easy to get around, especially with the underground trains. What a fabulous city for strolling around and looking at the beautiful architecture that was restored to it's former state after the war destroyed over 90%. The food and wine are amazing and there are too many good restaurants to list them all.

The tourist office (in person or online) will sell you a 48 hour pass that allows free admission to many museums and attractions plus allows free local use of bus, tram and metro (U-bahn). At €33 (or 16.50 per day) this is excellent value and 2 admissions and 2 rides to places you might go to anyway and it has paid for itself so anything more is free!!! The hotel did not offer evening meals but a short distance away was an excellent restaurant called Papa Walter offering local Franconian dishes

Parking was available on the street (but we were there on a weekend). The reception was very nice and the room was much bigger than we expected. The bathroom was in good condition, everything worked well. Breakfast was plentiful and very tasty, lots of food to choose from, coffee was German coffee :-)
