Surrounded by the sandy Costa Blanca beaches and the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Alicante has a rich heritage built over thousands of years. Alacant (as it's known in Valencian) has a deep history ranging from the first tribes that arrived at the slopes of Mount Benacantil to Greeks, Romans and Moors. Nowadays, this modern city features a bustling harbor, great Spanish nightlife, charming old streets and modern beach resorts.
Overlooking the city from the top of Mount Benacantil, the Castle of Santa Barbara was built during Islamic rule in the 9th century. Cascading down the slopes towards the center of the city, L'Ereta Park has terraced levels that offer stunning panoramic views of the city. The remains of the ancient Roman town of Lucentum are also just a few miles away.
Barrio de la Santa Cruz is the historic quarter, featuring narrow streets, old houses and cobbled steps. Framed by palm trees and covered with a snaking pattern of white, red and blue tiles, the Explanada de Espana is considered one of Spain’s most beautiful promenades.
After arriving at Alicante Airport, indulge yourself in a resort near San Juan beach, or enjoy the view of luxurious yachts moored at the marina from a cozy B&B: Booking.com has the perfect spot for you to discover the magic of Alicante!

Underrated as a destination - most folks seem to fly into Alicante and go elsewhere; they are missing out!
Great beach, excellent bars and restaurants. Recommended bars: Austins (excellent value cocktails), Red Corner sports bar for beers after a walk around town, Restaurante la Taverna Dell´ Artista for gluten free meals. Cafe Al Carrtoccio (C. de la Virgen del Socorro) for excellent and cheap coffee with a sea view.
A big, big plus was gluten free food and beer - everyone was aware, and people really took care of my wife's celiac disease requirements.
The old town is great for wandering around, a great castle, and a great beach.

Alicante is quite a small city but it is beautiful.
Alicante is quite a small city but it is beautiful. There is so much to do and see and the beaches are stunning. The cost of food and drinks on average are ok however there are some bars and restaurants especially on the beach that cost double of those in the city centre. Don’t be afraid to ask the cost before you purchase.

Barbara Castle: walk up or get a lift (€3, over 65's free), historuc, good views. City walking tour by locals brought us to old town places we would have missed. MUBAG Art Museum had a Dali exhib, Portraits in a lovely old building. Trams are great for Costa Blanca beaches. Good bus services. Trains to Murcia. Music @ Teatro Principal as a Jazz festival was on (April). Very good restaurants - fish & seafood eg Dorada / Bream, Prawns; Tapas - we were happy with all our meals.

Lovely city. Old town very compact with great restaurants and a nice buzz about the place. The beach is lovely with nice beach restaurants and bars dotted along that were reasonably priced.
Easy to get to/from airport by bus.

Lovely city close to the beach and marina.
Lovely city close to the beach and marina. Tourist attractions such as Santa Barbara Castle and The Ocean Race were free.
The Castle is well worth visiting, with wonderful views of the city and sea. I was disappointed that the toilets were filthy and lacking basic amenities such as toilet paper and hand dryer. There's a fee of €2.70 for the lift. However, I would have preferred to pay a small entrance fee and have clean toilets. There's a nice cafe at the top with great staff.
I would not recommend Alicante for solo travellers. It's very couple or groups orientated and the staff in restaurants are not friendly for lone travellers.
I also found food and drink prices very expensive.

Alicante is a lovely city and you even have a decent beach...
Alicante is a lovely city and you even have a decent beach so it really is the best of both worlds. Good tram system. 45 mins to Benidorm and also 2.5 hours to Valencia for any other day trips outside of Alicante.
Pros: The location was great for us though it's not in the city center. There are two other Eurostar Hotels in Allicante but for us this was the best location. It's an easy walk from the rail station. Close to El Corte Inglés for shopping.
The room was very clean, check-in quick and easy, and the WiFi excellent. We liked our room on the 8th floor with lots of space - the terrace is huge but it was too chilly when we were there to use it much. The fitness room is small but has good equipment and mats for stretching or yoga.
We have stayed here four or five times. Its great for us as its near the beach, huge supermarket within walking distance, Restaurants and bars are nearby. Its near a Tram station so Alicante City centre is only 30 mins away. This isn't Benidorm with endless bars and cafes etc and that helps to keep the area quiet. Maya, the lady who usually manages the apartment is an absolute treasure and a lovely person. Very highly recommend this apartment for a quiet location but easy to get to more lively places if you want that.
I have been in many holiday apartments and studios but never one as outstanding as this. It must be the apartment with the most complete inventory in Spain. The location is superb, cross the street to the beach, walk 2 minutes tot Alicante center, sit in the sun on the balcony, 2 bathrooms and very comfortable beds, everything you seek on your holiday you will find here. Your gentleman-host Miguel can answer your every question and keeps in contact by whatsapp, he is one more reason to choose for this apartment
This was one of the most exceptional stays I've had! The location is super ideal, steps from the beach, restaurants, shopping, and public transit. The multilingual staff are so friendly and helpful. My room was spotless and a great size, perfect for any length stay. Breakfast was so good and fresh and served until 10:30, which I really appreciated. Overall I highly recommend the Smile Hotel. I will definitely stay there next time I am in Alicante.
Great breakfast, many options. I wished there were more plant based protein options, such as beans. There was beans one day out of ten, I ate alot! Speaking of which, i really like the variety in the breakfast buffet. They switch it up.
The location of the hotel in perfect in Alicante, close to the beach, and close to trams and buses that take you downtown. I prefer good air quality, so living in the city centre isnt for me.
Since I arrived in Alicante by train and then went to Madrid the next day also by train, the hotel's location just across the train station is perfect. The walk to the city center is less than 20 minutes.
The room and the whole property are clean and neat. The staff was really helpful, they helped me fix my suitcase and gave me a room facing a quieter street because I'm a light sleeper.
Breakfast was tasty and diverse.
We have stayed in here twice before pre covid and it is still an excellent hotel. It is located in a quiet area approx. a 10 minute walk from city centre and it is near to C6 airport bus stops. Room was large and had a very comfortable bed. There was a coffee machine - TV had UK Sky news channel. Both room and bathroom were very clean. Hotel reception personnel were efficient and helpful.
The location is pretty good even if the hotel is a bit outside the busy area and the city center, still it's located in easy walking distance to the center, even shorter to the beach. Serra Grossa is located near, so you can do a nice little hiking up there. Also, Santa Barbara castle is located pretty near.
The pool area with a pool bar was nice to have in the hotel.
The value for money compared to the other properties around Alicante was brilliant. The walk was an easy 20-30 minute stroll to the centre, but there's also nice local bakeries etc if you head north from the hotel. The bus stop to and from the airport is right outside the hotel.
The staff were very helpful. Our shower broke, and it was fixed right away.
The staff were the friendliest and most helpful of all of our stays on our trip from Portugal through Spain. We were later arriving than expected and they made sure we got into our room as soon as we got there. On leaving; they booked our taxi and helped us with our luggage to the taxi. Best stay so far. Perfect location.
A perfect location on the beachfront and within walking distance to Alicante town restaurants , hotel rooms were good size, clean and all have balconies. Hotel is opposite Alicante Marina. Food and drink were reasonably priced. Face masks are used throughout the hotel and guests not wearing them are politely reminded too.
We needed somewhere to stay near the airport for our last night as an emergency so we chose this hotel. it is 15 mins from the Airport which is €28 roughly.
it is closer to the Alicante city centre - 10 mins in the taxi or 45 by foot (which is a nice walk).
Pillows were nice .
Our favourite hotel in Alicante. Large comfortable bedrooms with a sofa seating area. Exceptional breakfast and such lovely helpful staff. An absolute bonus in a city was the onsite parking at just 10 € a day. We'll be going there very soon for a mini break.
The hotel was very clean and modern. There was a good selection of food on offer at breakfast. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Perfect location for a city break to Alicante. Only a few steps away from the central tapas area of the city.
the thematic hotel is close to the city centre and to the bus stop in case you plan to come by bus from the Alicante airport; all facilities are near by including the city beach; bed is super comfy and the bath is modern
Great location on the marina and beach front. It is a real landmark hotel in Alicante. We used the hotel as a base which was ideal. The hotel is clean and modern although it is an old building, it has been modernised.
Very clean, quiet. Nice little common area with small outdoor balcony (one person at a time). Very helpful staff. Rooms are quite small, but decent for the price in Alicante.
The hotel was clean with a nice pool area and breakfast was decent. It is on the beach road so good for easy access and there are some restaurants close by.
