We stayed in Espoo for one night,then stayed four in Helsinki. It was the best way of enjoying the snow (being Irish it is a novelty )and enjoying the peaceful forest surrounding the hotel. It was a great start to our christmas break before going into the city. It was magical and I did a morning hike around the grounds of the hotel. My sons and I loved it.

Espoo is the most prosperous and safest area in Finland. The reason for that is that 40% of Espoo's population has a university degree. The best area of the city is by the sea in the middle of nature.

For those who likes to be in nature. There is nearby two very good birdwatching places: Maarian lintutorni and Laajalahden lintutorni. I also recommend to visit Villa Elfin nearby. Also Gallen-Kallela museum is worth of visiting.

Marko and his family were wonderful hosts and gave us a lot of good tips and ideas about our stay in Finland. They were very warm and welcoming and lent us all kinds of toys for our little girl. Even had kittens that she could play with in the garden. Marko is also a great chef and a pizza maker. We loved everything and are hopefully coming back in the future. The rooms are pretty basic so it's good to spend time outside on the Nuuksio trails. This time the in-house sauna was closed, but the lake-side sauna was wonderful. The restaurant is excellent! The staff was very kind and advised us on ways to keep safe during the pandemic.
