I chose it because it was within walking distance of both train stations. I only had one night in Lille after a flight taking a flight from Canada and planning a Eurostar ride to the UK the following morning. So, it was very convenient. It was also wonderful that it was so close to the main square which is fabulous. I pt is perfectly located to enjoy a brief stay.

The location was adjacent to the railway station. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. There was hot water and room temperature was good. The staff was friendly, they contacted me few times about the room preferences and they actually provided a room accordingly. There was a working elevator, which they had recently run a tech review. Also, there was a luggage hold service that helped us to wander around the city without having to carry all the luggage until we caught the evening train .

A few miles from the Belgian border, Lille displays Flemish influence in both architecture and cuisine. Its most famous square - Grand Place - is home to the beautiful Vielle Borse building, the Lille Christmas markets and several restaurants serving moules-frites and local beer.
Behind that is the Palais Rihour, a rather odd-looking building surrounded by cafes. In the opposite direction is another square with the opera house at the center and triangular-shaped buildings fanning off in 3 directions. One of these cobbled streets leads to the Old Town, where boutiques and international brands are in beautifully crafted shops.
Shopping in Lille is actually epic. It has Europe’s largest bookstore (the 8-floor Furet du Nord) and largest flea market - the Braderie de Lille. Then there is the bustling Wazemmes market and the huge Euralille shopping center. The town also has some fantastic chocolate shops.
Other attractions include the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Citadelle – a 17th-century fortress surrounded by a free zoo and gardens.
Lesquin Airport is on the city’s outskirts, but most visitors arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, named after Lille’s most famous son. If traveling to Lille by Eurostar, check out the mural of famous European landmarks before heading to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or apartment.
We got the Eurostar from London in standard premiere.
We got the Eurostar from London in standard premiere. Very nice trip and friendly staff.
Lille is easy to get around. We got a 48 hour pass, for bus, train and tram. Cheaper than in London
You must try HEIN Brique House restaurant. The food is delicious (chicken with Maroilles sauce, bavette, carbonade, and much more).
Many restaurants on Grand Place.
Pity the fountain was not working and there was no water in it.
We ate moules/frites on the first day with lovely desserts.
People are very friendly, bus drivers, staff in restaurants and shops...
We really enjoyed our trip to Lille.

Our trip started on a bad foot as most of the city was closed for the celebration of the 8th May but then, it started to blossom in the afternoon and streets started to become crowded with people.
I recommend to spend most of the time in the old town where most shops are located and where many small cafes are located. You can find many award-winning restaurant in that part and they are very close one another. I recommend tasting the pastries of Dona Bica and Les Merveilleux de Fred. I would recommend to skip the breakfast at whatever hotel and going to a local bakery for some fresh bread. Beware the coffee, I had a hard time finding a decent one, they all tasted much bitter than what I'm used to.
The Citadel is a nice place for a stroll and some quietness. We didn't have the time to visit the Museum of Fine Arts.
Pack a good pair of walking shoes because you will be walking a lot in the city center. You can buy a day pass to use every transportation system for 5.5€. There are bicycles available but there was a deposit system that I wasn't very fond of so I skipped that part, otherwise it is 1.8€ for 24h (but 200€ security deposit).

What is good is the fact that the two mainline stations are so close, very easy walking distance apart, approx 15 mins. I really enjoyed walking around, I must of walked 4 - 5 hrs on the day I arrived, after of course having had a shower and few moments rest on my bed. I'd encourage any first timer to France to go, my French is almost none existent, I learnt it, or didn't learn it at a very poor school many years ago, when we had to translate straight from French to Welsh, and my Welsh was not brilliant, we also had a teacher like a bear with a sore head, so I only did one year; still I got by and was understood on a good number of occasions.

Beautiful architecture, compact and easily explored by foot, very flat too. Fantastic food options. I was surprised to find shops closed on Sunday though, fortunately the Palais des Beaux Arts was open and free to enter.
great hotel so near transport and walkable to the centre of Lille .There is a huge shopping centre across the road and it's also across the road from the metro .Euro star is just a 15 minute walk and lots of great restaurants are on the doorstep.
A great budget hotel .Staff are really lovely.
Don't travel here on a Sunday as nothing is open in Lille ,my fault for not checking .
I would recommend doing a tour in a convertible citroen from Get Your Guide ,a great experience showing you all the town of Lille and the history .
Great location, with the flat being 30m away from the Grand Place and in the heart of the cobble-stoned old town, with all its bars, restaurants and shops. It's also something like a 5 to 15mn walk away from the two train stations. The flat will give you a rather dull view of rooftops but has great natural light at the end of the day, at least in the spring. It's spacious, clean and has all the amenities you would expect. It's quiet despite the location and very safe.
I tend not to give bad reviews but, in this case I must mention three fundamental things about this facility. There is no elevator, the room and toilet are super-small (to the point that if you have two luggage you are trapped) and the toilet has NO DOOR. This last feature was not mentioned in the description and honestly I believe privacy in the toilet is an important value. The hotel is conveniently located in the city centre.
Breakfast was ok.
This hotel is in a beautifully restored historic building, but the interior is very modern and functional. The area is some distance away from the city centre but it's a nice area and some of the Lille's best museums and restaurants are right round the corner. We didn't have breakfast in our rate, but we were able to order a 'half breakfast' to take to our room (juice, coffee, pastry) which at 6 euros was pretty good value. Lovely staff too.
We liked the close proximity to the EuroLille terminus and the very short walk to the local station to catch our ongoing train to the South of France next morning. The evening meal and breakfast buffet were both delicious and we had plenty of time to wander around the old town between eating and sleeping here. Nice decor due to a recent refurbishment
Staff friendly and helpful.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Very good English spoken. Parking can be booked in advance or (if available) on the day. In addition to the standard continental breakfast they also served bacon and scrambled egg, which was a nice addition.
The hotel is in comfortable walking distance to the centre of Lille, and has a tram stop immediately outside.
our stay at mama shelter was exceptional. it is such a beautiful/cool/funky hotel and the staff was great. Rachel at reception was super friendly and really cool, as was Thomas. the staff in the restaurant/ bar was also superb. I would and will stay at mama shelter lille again. huge thumbs up
Secure on site parking, good breakfast, easy access to the Centre of Lille, the Metro is only 5 minutes from the Hotel, the centre of Lille we really liked it, had our evening meal and we are thinking we will be back for weekend beak.
Great location just opposite Gare de Lille Flandres and just a short walk to city centre. We stayed in an apartment which was small and cosy but had everything we needed for one night. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
The staff are adorable and nice. The hotel is a contraction quite historical and ancien, so the elevator is beautiful though small. The hotel is not far from the Lille Flandres train station, about 5 to 7 minutes of walking.
Proximity to Lille Europe and the fact that it was a small hotel and not a huge corporate high rise. Very close to the Centre Ville - Lille is a very pleasant town, with some lovely historical buildings. Nice firm mattress.
The staff was so very friendly which I didn't expect from a budget hotel near the station. The room was a little small but extremely good value nevertheless. Incredibly convenient for both Lille stations and the old town.
Nice hotel in a quiet area, but only 10 minutes of walking to Lille Flandres railway station.
Room was OK, the bed was comfortable, and breakfast was tasty with freshly baked bread and pastries
It was central to the town, very handy for bars and restaurants. Within good walking distance to gare d'europe too. Hotel very good for just an overnight stay if you're passing through Lille
The hotel is in a perfect location close to the train station, in a safe area and close to the city centre. The staff were very nice and helpful. I would recommend for a short stay in Lille
Really lovely hotel. Clean, spacious with all the amenities you could need (free coffee and water at reception) and good value. Perfect spot to explore Lille from. Would highly recommend.
The hostel is located in amazing place of the old town, all the places are easily accesible. I really liked the curtains near every bed - it gives some private space.
The hotel is very well situated, only 5 minutes walk from the centre of life in Lille. The rooms are a good size and well provisioned. The staff are very friendly.
