This fine English country house hotel (AA 85% Merit) is ideally located 1.5 miles from the market town of Ludlow, and offers an excellent standard of service, fine dining and outstanding...
Score from 121 reviews Very good
Just 7 minutes’ drive from the centre of Ludlow, The Clive Restaurant with Rooms offers luxurious accommodation alongside its award-winning restaurant.

A short walk from Ludlow town centre, The Charlton Arms provides attractive rooms and fine dining on the Ludford Bridge. This Shropshire pub is just 10 minutes’ walk from the medieval Ludlow Castle.
Score from 205 reviews Very good
Very friendly and helpful staff.lovely large comfortable room with nice views from all windows.although in the centre of town very quiet..also nice to have the parking
Room could have been warmer in the evening was a little cold
THE HOTEL ITSELF IS AN OLD BEAUTIFUL BUILDING. THE BREAKFAST WAS FIRST CLASS. STAFF VERY PLEASENT. RIGHT IN THE CENTRE OF LUDLOW, NEAR TO SHOPS, CASTLE AND OTHER PLACES OF INTEREST. NICE RESTAURANTS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE
WE STAYED IN THE CLIVE ROOM, THE CLEANINESS OF THE BATHROOM WAS NOT VERY GOOD, COPWEBS ON TILES AT TOP, AND TOP OF TILES DIRTY. SHOWER CURTAIN NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AS BOTTOM WAS VERY DIRTY/
The warm welcome and historic surroundings. The huge fireplace glowing coals - a real fire. We had a really stay inspite of a couple of niggles recorded below.
The small TV which was positioned away from the bed. A walled mounted TV which could be viewed from the bed. The electric shower was disappointing and safety could be improved by a grab rail to assist climbing in and out of the slippery bath.
The Location, The Food
Room Lighting poor No Wi-Fi in rooms
The Garden room was separate from the hotel and was roomy and comfortable
My wife thought the breakfast bacon was precooked and dry
The location was great.
It was not very warm, the heating system was not working well. The restaurant lacked atmosphere and the food was average for the price.
I loved the ambience of the Hotel which gave an insight into to an old English merchant style house, with a warm and welcoming feel. Could not be better located for Ludlow, great views to the front of the castle and gardens to the rear. Breakfast was lovely.
I pondered for ages over other peoples comments over needing a bit of upgrading. Yes to some extent I agree, but its clean, the bedroom was freshly emulsioned and furnished well and in context with its 3 star rating. I feel the bedroom could do with some thought to the decor and finishes, in the way they have done in the breakfast room perhaps.
The public rooms were clean and comfortable, the food at Elliot's was excellent,we ate there twice and enjoyed both meals,
Poor house keeping in the bedrooms, could do better.
Attractive hotel in the middle of Ludlow, which is a comfortable and convenient place to stay.
Central location with car parking. Breakfast buffet very good
Bedroom lighting rather dim, especially in seating area at night
Atmosphere and attentive staff
The room was dusty and had cobwebs
Friendly and helpful staff.
Steep stair access.
Excellent food staff, location and ambience.
A rather noisy bathroom fan and a rather moderate hospitality tray for the price band. Just small things really that just stop this gem of a place being perfect.
Lovely old building. Breakfast served in a beautiful room with a view of the garden from the bay window. A two-minute walk takes you to the square so the situation was ideal.
We were very aware of the noise above us. Being an old and interesting building, the insulation between floors is probably insufficient so noise travels.
location and comfort
Superb location, comfortable bed, amazing food/service.
Lovely Building, well situated next to castle.
Room smelt old /musty. Service was a bit slow at breakfast. ( understaffed at function)
We liked the central location with parking facilities. Also we appreciated a delightful afternoon tea in the lounge shortly after we arrived.
The position is outstanding - opposite the castle and close to the market square. Decent parking makes it the most convenient hotel in Ludlow.
While nothing is unacceptable, there is a tired and faded feel to the place. Some of the staff are very pleasant but we were met at reception by a young female who had no social graces at all. One of our bedside lamps didn't work, the carpet was stained and the bathroom was shabby and dated which would be acceptable if it was cheap but a hotel charging these prices should be better.
Excellent food and service
Breakfast and location.
Location to town centre and Ludlow race course
Tired bathroom Tired bedroom carpet sink waste needs replacing and toilet flush not working
Location was excellent
Was very surprised about the lack of customer service skills shown by the staff. We were not asked if we had visited the area before or whether we would like any details about where to eat other than were we eating in the hotel. When we decided to eat in the hotel we were told the kitchen was closing at 7:30pm due to lack of customers, which isn't really very good. The breakfast was good but the evening meal was extremely average. We did have a nice room but when you are paying nearly £200 a night you do expect a nice room.
The food was a bit yesterday, well cooked and presented but ......
fairly large well furnished quiet room overlooking trees
towel radiator not working over bath shower not great
