Nice small town on the river Avon, however anything to do with Shakespeare was extremley over priced. I am happy with my visit and saw 2 plays at the RCS during my stay but admission into the attractions was day light robbery
I went there with a friend and stayed there for a couple of nights. We had booked to see Macbeth in the Memorial Theatre. It was a late booking but we were able to see everything very well in the Upper Circle as it is an open thrust theatre with the seats round three sides of the stage. There is so much to do in Stratford and it is such a lovely place. The shopping is good, There are lovely walks along the river bank, There are some wonderful restaurants and they do early pre-theatre dinners. We went to Lamb's which I can thoroughly recommend and had a breakfast and a tea break at the Four Teas which is well worth at least one visit. There are also three houses to visit which have associations with Shakespeare: Anne Hathaway's Cottage at Shottery, New Place with the Great Garden to sit and relax in and the Birthplace. It was very quiet the Friday we were there but rather busy on the Saturday. Sunday was quiet too.
Stratford is my happy place, it is a relaxing place to visit plenty to do ,great restaurants, if you like history you will find plenty of places here to visit If you want a peaceful break Stratford is the place to go
This was my first time to England. I really enjoyed my time here. It is clearly a holiday tourist spot... everyone made me feel welcome... I felt safe the area has a nice vibe. There are LOTs of things to do here. and if you let yourself be consumed by invitation you will find lots more that's off the map. I'd go again (sigh - I'm already dreaming of my next holiday) Funny thing is I skiped all the Shakespear stuff (and I dont' regret it), the pub across the road is great!
We enjoyed visiting the local attractions:- Shakespeare's birthplace and old home, Anne Hathaway's cottage, the Butterfly Farm and a tour of the RSC. A quick stroll across to the theatre made our visit to see Macbeth perfect. There is so much to see and do and easily accessible.
Stratford on Avon was an interesting visit although overcrowded being a holiday weekend. Car parking was appropriate and reasonably priced. Forties Cafe provides good snacks and service. The Marks & Spencers store had limited product availability and the cafe service was poor, and not to the general M&S standard.
