FAQs about hotels in Inverness

Gateway to the Highlands and Loch Ness

A jewel with historic buildings and charming streets, Inverness is surrounded by a typical Scottish Highland landscape. It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

Take a walk around the Old Town, visit St Andrew’s Cathedral, and make a stopover in the charming Victorian Market. The Old High St Stephen's Church is the oldest building in town, and has been a religious site since pre-Christian times.

The Inverness Castle overlooks the river and is nowadays the seat of the Sheriff Court. A hotel in Inverness city centre is ideal to enjoy the different cultural and recreational activities in town.

Watch the Atlantic salmon jumping out the river near the Ness Islands, and try to catch a glimpse of the famous monster of Loch Ness. The Cairngorms National Park is 40 km away, and Chanonry Point is the best spot to watch dolphins, just 24 km away.

Inverness hotels include a large offer of small, cosy guest houses, B&B’s, and rural cottages, allowing a closer contact with the nature. Don’t miss the Inverness accommodation deals on Booking.com!

There are somehow literally no museums or libraries open on Mondays or tuesdays, which were the days I was stuck there as a travel layover. So I got stuck literally just sitting in a park in the rain twice for several hours waiting to check in to my hotel, as there was nothing else to do since I didn’t need anything from any stores or restaurants and no other indoor spaces or activities were open within an hour and a half of the city centre by public transit. There are also only two small, museums available even on other days. Inverness might actually have the worst museum ratio Ive encountered in the British isles. Almost everywhere else has some form of local history museum or the like, Inverness has one historic house and one art gallery.

So many wonderful things to see and do within an easy driving distance from Inverness. This is the place to stay to explore the highlands. We enjoyed having the advantage of being in a city with all it offers including an airport to fly in and out, History is all around you from stone age to castles. The countryside is beautiful. The seacoast is not fall away and the National Parks were breath taking.

It was everything we imagined of Scotland. The local Pipeband play on a Tuesday and Saturday, keep that in mind - it was wonderful. People were so friendly. We did a tour of Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle which was great. Culloden Battle field was amazing, very airy but if you like Scottish History don't miss this - the shop was wonderful here. Inverness was a lovely place to visit!!

We didn't know what to expect in Inverness and was wonderfully pleased with what it had to offer. If you go - be sure to check out the sheep dog demonstration (https://workingsheepdogs.uk/ - the site says under construction, but still available). The city is very walkable and has many pubs/restaurants for a variety of entertainment including live music.

I watched a great performance by the band Meallan at the Under Canvas venue at Eden Court. Then I had a delicious dinner at Jimmy Badgers, a lovely mushroom risotto and a pint, followed by excellent sticky toffee pudding and an espresso martini. A lovely evening in Inverness.

The Wee Lodge is just fantastic. Shona and Steve who live in the main house were welcoming, friendly and extremely helpful hosts. After almost 3 weeks driving in Northern Scotland, staying in a variety of mostly really good accommodation, this was by far the best. It is really not "wee", rather a spacious, comfortable, beautifully decorated and excellently equipped home for a day, a week or a month. The garden setting was lovely and the location in Inverness really good for walking or driving to the city

Our stay at “The Koko Rooms” in Inverness was one of the highlights of our 14-day road trip through Scotland. The room was beautifully furnished with everything you could wish for - very comfortable bed, coffee and tea station with cookies, fridge with milk and drinks available to buy. It was spotlessly clean with a spacious bathroom with a large rain shower. The hostess Romaine was very helpful. The city center is a few minutes walk away. We would love to come back!

Everything was simply perfect! The house, the views, the nature, the room — it all felt like stepping into a fairytale. As soon as we arrived at Bunchrew House Hotel, we felt harmony, peace, and true relaxation. Breakfasts and dinners were top-notch! The staff was wonderful. Our rating is 10/10!
