The house was very well designed, had lots of storage space and was really clean. All bedrooms had ensuite bathrooms, which was brilliant. The welcome hamper was...welcome. Location was perfect, right in the town. The electric charging point next to the house was a bonus.

The property during my stay met my standard, got to see a nice view of farm fields with sheep’s and hearing birds singing. The room spacious but can’t complain. And at breakfast the host was very friendly and her friendly pet dog made my mornings during my breakfast.
Surrounded by beautiful scenery but just a few minutes' walk from Hay-On-Wye's center, this charming inn has a traditional wooden-beamed bar.

The inn has character, comfort, hospitality, and amazing food. The staff is friendly, the rooms very comfortable, and did I mention the amazing food? We were a party of 7, with 2 kids, and even with appetizers, mains, and deserts, we only averaged £25 per person for AMAZING food. Highly recommended.

This is a quirky hotel in a great location with friendly staff.
A lovely little town. Obviously you will most likely be going for the bookshops. There are also other interesting shops, and on one of the days we visited - Thursday - a market.
Lovely countryside around too

Hay is great , there is always something to do here. Some lovely antique shops and vintage bizarres. Great coffee shops and restaurants. The Castle has been restored and is a beautiful gift to behold. We love walking along the river to The Warren and having a dip in the cold water.
A little gem of a place.

Hay is a beautiful village with many historic buildings and interesting shops. There are many options for outdoor recreation in the area. One thing to note is that most shops close at 5 PM. My favorite meal was dinner at The Old Black Lion. Every meal I had in Hay was excellent. Please note if you are using the bus to get from the train station at Hereford to check the bus schedule yourself since Google Maps pulled from the wrong table. There is a lovely walking path along the River Wye with amazing views of the river.

A wonderful place to visit!
A wonderful place to visit! Quirky shops, vast array of book & antique shops and a lovely market. Coffee shops we’ve visited have all been excellent. My husband and I regularly visit for a night or two. We dine at the Blue Boar and occasionally the Indian restaurant- both superb!
Lovely walks, and a ambience of calmness & fresh air entices us back all seasons.
My daughter and I have also camped nearby- that’s was fabulous too!

pretentious!
Only one overpriced pub which did food I liked.. the food cost telephone numbers
A lot of visitors looked they had just come out of a 1960's folk festival
Er, since the advent of Amazon do we really need bookshops?
A very relaxing stay in a very large room with a big bathroom (a separate bath and shower). A beautiful view of the Golden Valley, with sheep grazing behind the house.
Breakfast is excellent (why stay in a hotel and pay extra?). A car is essential to make the most of the location, but Hay-on-Wye, the Brecon Beacons and South Herefordshire are easily reached.
I can highly recommend a stay in a part of the UK slightly off the usual tourist tracks.
We loved the themed décor with every nook and cranny filled with interesting items. So much wood! There was parking in the lot, an elevator, a spring fed hot tub. There was a pool in the adjoining hotel for our use, but we stuck with the hot tub. Dinner (additional cost) was great with themed food available and roving singers. Breakfast (included) was served in a lovely room and was plentiful even though we are gluten free.
Beautiful location. Very central for Hay. Friendly staff. Comfortable room. Quirky C16th hotel. Pool. Lovely breakfast. Although hotel doesn't serve other meals, staff were incredibly helpful suggesting places to eat within easy reach and for a variety of budgets. There was even a friendly dog to greet you at breakfast time. Good parking too which can be tricky in Hay. Loved it.
The location was absolutely fantastic - so easy to reach pretty much anywhere else in the town. Very handy to have the Spar next door. It was very quiet despite being on one of the main roads.
In terms of the place itself - it was so clean and well appointed. It had basically anything we could need, including very thoughtful extras like local milk and bread.
Great location in the centre of Hay-on-Wye but in a quiet spot off the road. Some lovely walks down by the river, very close. Excellent breakfast and good choice. John and Sally were excellent hosts. Two very friendly dogs. Single room had plenty of space and there was a fridge which was much appreciated. All very clean and warm.
The whole accommodation was tastefully decorated to an high standard and spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable - huge and had a memory foam topper and lovely down duvet. All the facilities were great and in working order; the communications exceptional and timely; and it’s location in the centre of Hay perfect.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Smithy, our hosts were very welcoming, the room was great with a wonderful view, very peaceful surroundings. Huge breakfast meant we were set up well for the day. A great location for visiting Hay-on-Wye. Would definitely recommend staying here.

The property was clean and tidy. Very comfortable home from home feel. Ideally located for getting around Hay on Wye. We never needed the car for our short stay. Dog friendly too. Very thoughtfully equipped with everything you’d need in a home.
Centrally located in Hay on Wye just 2min walk to castle and all town facilities. Spacious and versatile property with great rainfall showers in the three en-suites and comfortable beds. Characterful outside with easy to use modern interior.
Amazing breakfast and great customer service. Private car park was easy to find, and the location is great to walk around the village. The hotel is 16th century, and has great character (albeit low ceilings for a tall person haha!)
Very peaceful, fabulous views and excellent for the dog who had ample green space to run around with her ball. Location also excellent as only ten minutes from hay on Wye which is a very pretty village with amenities.
