Lovely country house hotel with a welcoming host who could provide excellent advice on where to eat. Breakfast was good and freshly cooked. Best thing was walking in the grounds and down by the river.

This accommodation is in Castleside, which is just outside Consett. The countryside around the village of Castleside is beautiful. Consett is post industrial, not the prettiest town on the planet, but what you would expect from a history of Iron and coal mining in the North Pennines. The county of Durham has a wealth of history and great places to visit - so go and visit it all, the not so good balanced with beauty!

The room and ensuite was clean and beautifully appointed with a massive superking bed. Had a late lunch in the Antler Bar and Terrace, the fish and chips were fantastic with whisper-light batter. All staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. I stayed here for convenience for an event in Consett, but will definitely return for a proper break here to take advantage of the location and health facilities I didn't wasn't able to this time.AntheaUnited Kingdom

Our room was clean, comfortably furnished and had a very large, comfortable bed. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired and is amply sized if you want. There is also plenty to do for families with children, e.g. a petting corner, alpacas, donkey etc. We give *****.
