A first rate hotel. Staff polite and helpful. I had initially been given a room upstairs despite asking for a ground floor room and when I asked If a room on the ground floor was now available this was arranged on the date of my arrival.

The hotel itself was lovely but it just needs a little TLC,
Positive - The room is massive, the breakfast was lovely, the staff are great, perhaps a little pricey but even after the negatives would probably stay there again.

I love the scenery, the wildlife, I'm a walker, so great walks, the town of oakham has everything u need, but what I like most is it's not commercialised, still a pretty little market town.i also used train & went to peterborough, the parking at the station was only £2.50 for the whole day. I had lunch one day at a lovely little cafe tucked in the corner of the market Square called Hungry Birds.

Oakham itself has the remains of a castle with a tearoom.

Stamford and Burghley House are well worth a visit also nice to walk by the river and take a picnic
Lovely walking trails from Normanton to suit every level of ability.
Trip on the Rutland Belle around the lake was relaxing
Normanton church beautiful lovely place to sit on the benches and look out over the lake
OTTER cafe in Oakham is a must, beautiful food, friendly staff and efficient service also a great place to buy gifts.
Sun Inn in Cottesmore provide a lovely Sunday lunch
Barnsdale Lodge was a great location as we were visiting Barnsdale Gardens for afternoon tea etc. Our plan the next day was to walk across the dam and more at Rutland Water. A visit into Oakham and Melton Mowbray. So a super location. Our room over looked the Courtyard and was clean and well stocked with tea/coffee/biscuits etc. Staff were helpful and friendly all around. Breakfast had a good choice and set you up for the day.
I had a cosy double room and it was more than adequate. Very nicely furnished and a coffee machine as well as a kettle. Had a party of friends for dinner in the restaurant(Blossoms) the food was very nice but the service was a little underwhelming, although very friendly it was a little slow at times even though it was pretty quiet. The hotel is in an amazing location right by the Rutland water lakes.
Very warm welcome from Bennie when we arrived. The food we had for dinner was really tasty, and served promptly, and with a smile. Our room was very warm and the bed very comfortable.Tea and coffee provided, and the use of a kettle as well as coffee maker. Bar area and dining area a little cold, but it was very cold outside! All in all we enjoyed our stay, and would stay again.
The location is great. The village of Hambleton is beautiful and well located in the middle of Rutland Water. Hambleton Hall is very close and well worth a visit. The pub areas are varied and welcoming, from old nooks with fireplaces to a very nice modern dining room. Oakham is easily reachable, and is a sweet town with good restaurant / pub choices.
Lovely location on the green of a lovely village and within very easy driving distance of Oakham and Rutland Water. The decor had been lots of attention and the layout of the hotel managed to be rambling/eclectic and thoroughly usable at the same time. Super outdoor area and dining room to the rear.
The rooms are genuinely boutique and well-crafted.
Fabulous location near to Rutland Water. Lovely hotel, great staff and tastefully presented. The breakfast is all locally sourced food and is absolutely delicious. We had an evening meal, and again, cannot be faulted and very reasonably priced. All staff we had the pleasure of meeting were really warm and welcoming.
Really nice hotel, very comfortable beds and very clean. The location was perfect - 1 minute walk to the town centre but no noise at night. Staff are lovely and the breakfast was great with a good selection of hot and cold choices. Free parking is available. We have visited twice and would return again.
The whole experience was great: good value, very friendly staff, and the room was so quiet and had all we needed. The hotel also served as a great jumping off place to visit Rutland Water and other nearby attractions. We would definitely stay there again as we did to visit family nearby.
We were able to contact Tracey easily to access the property and for other queries. She always answered emails promptly.
It was well located for Rutland Water and surrounding towns/villages.
The property was bright and airy, spacious enough for 3 people and well resourced.
The very kind chap from the restaurant next door. He was part of the hotel but it's an "unmanned" hotel, so I think he was covering for a manager (flood conditions in local area making travel difficult- that was my reason for having to book the hotel!)
The Admiral Hornblower on Oakham's main street offers a couple of rooms on the other side of the backyard. Nicely decorated rooms, great breakfast and one of the better options if you want to stay in Oakham centre. The breakfast options were great!
Great period property with lots of original features and a lovely lounge area. The courtyard was very pretty with gorgeous fragrant red roses.
Terry the night receptionist was absolutely excellent, what a credit to the hotel.
Really lovely setting besides Rutland Water - beautifully looked after beer garden and courtyard. Hotel is a former stable block for the the sadly now demolished Normanton House so has loads of character.
I have stayed here a few times now. This time to sail locally; fabulous food, smiling/welcoming staff. Room very comfortable. No hesitation in staying again when in the area.
Friendly staff, beautiful nature around hotel, kids enjoyed playground and animals (rabbits, squirrels, birds). Dinner with sunset view was something special ;)
a perfect hotel break with dogs. Very lovely atmosphere. Great staff - friendly and caring. Good location re Rutland Water etc. Would definitely return.
