Spectacular view of Meteora and monasteries looming over the town. The town is quaint and only a few blocks with delicious family owned Greek restaurants, coffee shops and gelato or bakery’s. The town is a great place to relax after touring the monasteries! The Meteoric family owned Greek restaurant located across from the center waterfall is exceptional! We enjoyed dinner outside and lunch the next day with great views and service. A great base for seeing Meteora..plenty of restaurants but steer clear of the main square - too much catering to tour buses..look further down the Main Street for real Greek cuisine and hospitality..Meteora Tip - sunset - great views. The monasteries and mountains are exceptionally beautiful and provide a unique once in a lifetime experience. There are lots of small family run restaurants with beautiful gardens and balconies which added to the rustic atmosphere. Go to Kalabaka and visit the Meteora! What are you waiting for?? It's a great town. Easy to get to -- nice day trip from Athens, now even easier and doable because of the new highway -- I'm writing in 2025 -- go sooner rather than later because the tourism will surely pick up because of easy access from Athens. Visit Meteora if you wish to glimpse heaven. Centuries ago, monks decided to climb unclimbable mountains that stretch to the skies. Some settled in caves suspended in the air, within magnificent rock formations, and others built small cities in the clouds, which they dedicated to the most high and transcendent.
