Has some nice little beaches (sand or rock) within short walking distance. You really need a car to explore the area. We enjoyed Lecce, Ostuni, Monopoli, Polignano (dramatic beach and old town), Alberobello, and Castellana Grotto (on our one wet day). Suggest you avoid Maldive del Salento (sewerage). Very nice new fish restaurant in walking distance (Dentromare) but quite expensive. Really recommend Al caminetto in Carovigno, good homely food and very reasonable.

One of the best places to stay here is Ulivo Tra I Massi, see the photos. I also stayed at Pietre Bianche another stunning trullo with sea view and pool. I have been coming to Puglia for 10 years this is by far my favourite part of the world.
