1) No hot water in the shower. 2) A whirring / drilling noise that kept me up all night, perhaps coming from one of the hotel pumps / generators from above. When I enquired about this at reception I was told that “the hotel was full” and my questions as to what it could be were rebuffed with a “goodnight”. 3) There were no batteries in the remote for the tv. 4) Which didn’t make much difference as the tv didn’t work anyway when I swapped out the batteries for the air con. 5) The air con worked but didn’t turn down meaning that I had to constantly turn it on and off. 6) The swimming pool had safety issues in that the side of the pool had a suction hole which sucked people in if they got close. Thankfully it was only me that discovered it and not the kids. 7) our drivers quarters were full of cockroaches and he was asked to give up his fan for a “guest” half way through the night.Eggleton - 10Scored 10

It’s a cultural centre but also a real living city, the hosts introduced us to people and we ate at a nice restaurant for ‘locals’. Joining our guide for a temple evening was a surprise and wonderful. The old railway buildings are interesting and watching a monitor lizard strolling down the street was very cool. And of course the ancient city - unmissable. Honestly I’d rather stay here than rush off to the beach.

The location was also quite easy to access, close to town & the train station and plenty of cheap places to eat around the hotel area. There was a lot of mosquitoes, but the hotel staff do a lot to keep them away so it's not a bother. They rent out bikes also which is cool, but didn't use it. Also if you need a tuktuk to take you on a tour of the sites they know a great tuktuk guy who was great!
